  1. The Wildfire is 168 square feet. I'd stay off the front risers though. Damn things bucked like a horse on front risers. The best way to wring 'em out is to push them into a full stall and cross control them. If any of you have seen the radical canopy control segment of the skydiving video "The Right Wally", that's a Widfire there. Try doing that shit on a Stiletto.
  2. The wildfire used to be the hottest thing around in it's day. Now it's seen as quite a sedate old thing. You can have a lot of fun on one though, if you take a couple of wraps and know how to fly it. It was made by Glide Path, not Flight Concepts, although it's essentially the same company in most respects. As for the reserve, it's probably a Phantom 26. Despite what one or two other posters say here, there's nothing wrong with them per se. In fact , my first reserve ride was on a Phantom 24. There was a required mod for them that required an extra reinforcing kevlar lateral band. Later models came with it already installed. Also, there was an issue with all round reserves about acidic mesh in the steering vents degrading the canopy strength adjacent to it whan packed. There is a test that can be done for acid mesh using an indicator called bromocresol-9. My Phantom 24 had that test and passed OK. If it fails that test, then the fix is to first do a pull test on the fabric. If it passes that, then the mesh can be washed, retestedm and the reserve placed into service. If your reserve passed those tests and had the kevlar mod, I'd use it as a reserve with no worries. They were a good canopy, and along with the Handbury Preserve 4, saved a lot of people.

  4. Not only was that ban rescinded, but he's played several major dates in San Antonio since then. At one of them, the mayor was his special guest. Besides which, pissing on the Alamo wasn't exactly the worst thing that ever happened there.
  5. I'm hooked up now. I'm sharing with another of the UK team.
  6. I found a flight with EVA Air for $749. I've had good reports from people who have flown that airline before to BKK.
  7. Anyone going to Thailand in 2006 for the 400 way need a room mate ? If so, PM me !
  8. Real pictures, added name. Go to http://www.snopes.com for the full skinny on this.
  9. I always check my rigs, and in each gear bag I have a copy of the official TSA requirements for parachute handling on the top of each container. When I check in, I ask for a special inspection as allowed under those rules, and inform them that they must under those rules, call me to be present if they wish to unpack the rigs. They usualy just call the security, tell them my rigs are coming over, and let me know that I'm good to go. Just being up front about what's in the bags, and making their life easier by putting copies of the regulations in with the gear works fine. Of course then, it's handed over to baggage handling. They've only lost my stuff once so far......
  10. A dropzone needs dogs like my motorcycle needs a fucking ashtray. I have nothing against dogs per se, but if I find one more dog bomb in the landing area that some inconsiderate fuckwit hasn't picked up after because they are letting fido run free on his weekend, I'm going to go walkies with Mr. Para-Ordnance. Then I'm going to cockpunch the owner. Trust me.
  11. I tried to like them. I really did. To me though, when they werem't sounding like a Metallica tribute band, they just didn't have the songs to catch my attention. They are all really talented though, especially the drummer. I've got nothing against their success, but I'm off to see Trivium and Children of Bodom at Slims in San Francisco in November. Nothing like a great double bill in a sweaty club. The last great show I saw was Motorhead/Corrosion of Conformity at the Warfield. Also, I'm done with amphitheatres and stadiums.
  12. See if you can get the classic TV series Ripcord on DVD.
  13. Resists the urge. Looking at your list of bands, there are lots of new bands carrying on that vein way better than the tedious corporate sludge bands like Godsmack crap out on a regular basis. Check out Trivium, Children of Bodom and Lamb of God for starters.
  14. 66 Whiskey. The Bird Machine. Anyone else remember it ?
  15. That rig is like a fat chick. I looks fine until your friends see you jumping it.
  16. PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT! No rounds for students in Ontario that's forsure. Dunno bout the rest of the DZ's but we're not THAT far behind. My first sport jump. 2000 feet static line. Main - GQ Aeroconical round. Reserve - 24 foot unmodified Irvin front mounted reserve. Unsteerable, free packed, no pilot chute, but a spring placed between the lines and the fabric to help it out. Two shot capewells, no AAD. After I had thousands of jumps and was running Z Hills, I went back home for a visit. They were still putting out students on the same gear. Not fancy, but it worked every time.

    Free Cat

Seriously. Anybody want a free cat ? He's about 6 weeks old, a little brown tabby, and the last of a litter that we found abandoned. We've got homes for all the rest and he's the last. He's the runt of the litter, and therefore the cutest. Julie and I got them their first round of shots, got them tested for FIV and hand weaned them to solid foods. He's a little brown tabby. I can't take him as my own cat of 14 years will eat him, and Julie's up to capacity in her house with four dogs and cats. So, anyone out there want a cute little furball with a motor boat purr ? San Francisco Bay Area. Robin Heid need not apply.
  18. I feel your pain. When I was managing Z Hills, 85% of all our revenue went out the door in aircraft and fuel costs, yet we still tried to hold jump prices at Cessna levels while running a flight line of four Super Otters. If it continues in this direction, I can see that the only way that many places will be able to survive is a co-operative clubs, not businesses, like they do in Sweden. That way at least, there are tax advantages that can offset the other expenses. It's either that or we all start paying real prices for the services that major drop zones provide. I'm glad I'm not managing a big drop zone any more. It pried loose what few screws I had left.
  19. Better get one with a wide yoke then......
  20. Nobody's interested you big French poove
