Yes, it will be full of tourist! I live about 1 mile off 95 in Walterboro. My son works at a very nice restaurant downtown, right on the water. If you like I can either pm you with phone numbers or we can pm $ ranges and direct you to some wonderful places.

Awesome letter in Parachutist about mandatory AAD at some Dz
Taylor610 replied to Darius11's topic in The Bonfire
DZ's are not required to report injuries nor AAD fires. FACT. Some DZ's report AAD fires FACT. That is BS. A "Hook Turn" is a performance landing. You can try and debate it all ya want but lawyer like definition tricks will not be your saving grace. *** Wrong, sometimes people do what would be defined as a hook turn in one book, as an avoidance procedure, sometimes out of panic, sometimes out of stupidity, sometimes for no explainable reason. It was not an intentional hook turn rather a reaction to a situation that they had encountered. It is not a lawyer type definition trick it is plain and simple. You made my point valid for me by saying that incidents are not reported. Thanks! OK, I'm done with this whole thread, have a fun time everyone doing what ever it is you want to do where ever it is you want to do it. So long as it is allowed. -

OK how about from me with 3800 jumps and 15 years in the sport? Like it or not, the fact is that you would save more lives and call the ambulance out to the DZ A LOT less if you banned hook turns instead of making people wear AAD's. Like it or not, the fact is that you would save more lives and call the ambulance out to the DZ A LOT less if you banned hook turns instead of making people wear AAD's. *** Like it or not, you have no data that can confirm that statement. People wear AADs that save lives and are not reported. Until we have complete and accurate reporting on all incidents in the sport, we do not have a data base that will either prove or disprove either side of the story. Fact. I think that PM's would be a better place to discuss these issues. I certainly don't mind sharing my personal experiences, why I decided to make AADs mandatory at my DZ and if anyone is interested, let me know. I will be happy to answer any questions via PM's. This is the bonfire. Let's keep it that way. -

As to your point about DZOs having every right to make the rules at their DZ. I don't think anyone has disputed that. It's just the way it is and really needs no discussion. *** Yes, you are disputing that. By saying that the DZO's are "Safety Nazis" if they say "this rule applies at my DZ", whether it is about wing loading about AAD usage or about Hook turns. They own the business and have every right to make those decisions. Why would you want to label someone a "nazi" (negative connotation) just because they are making a business decision, especially when you have other places to go. Just go there. Don't sit around and whine. If they are such bad people you should be glad they have given you the incentive you need to make that decision. *** Jason, I don't mean to sound like I am being disrespectful to anyone in this sport. If you had ever been around me you would know that I used to tell all of my "I's", "if you want to learn something, go jump with a student." I was very open minded about what we did at my DZ and sometimes it caused problems. I was also very big into "high performance landings". That forced me into being very big into high performance landing training. I did the old "walk and talk" with a ton of people too. I don't know, maybe someone learned something, maybe they didn't, but I believed in training, not regulating. The point here is simple, the same as you chose where you jump, the DZO can chose what SOPs his business is going to be run by. If it sinks, it is his fault, if it succeeds it is his benefit. If he saves one life, because he made a rule that maybe you think was harsh, interfering with your rights, well good for him and I am sorry your feelings were hurt by the rule he made. -

That is rather close minded. Just because I haven't invested more money into the sport dosen't mean that I don't take safety into consideration. *** No it was not close minded. It was a nice way of saying that you do not have enough experience (based on what you have listed) to get into a detailed discussion about hook turn injury/fatality compared to injury/fatality caused by things that are associated with the use of an AAD and the cost of things that are caused by that incidents that an AAD would have prevented. -

It's easy to pick a side and blast away. But most skydivers realize that the real-world solution lies in the middle. Common sense is generally a better choice than an extreme position on either side. *** Again, my point is simple, if I own the DZ and I make a rule based on what I decide as being a good business decision, does that make me a safety nazi? NO! It makes me a DZO that has to make, sometimes unpopular decisions because on liabilities and/or any jumpers one moment of complete brain lock (something we have little or no control over). One more time, a decision based on Business, made by the owner to try and help keep them open and operating. If you don't like the menu, eat somewhere else. -

I don't see how jump numbers change the validity of the question. He's leading to a good point. Banning hook turns would prevent far more fatalities than requiring AADs, assuming equal number of jumpers at each DZ and all else being equal. *** I never said one over the other, I said it is the DZO's (O stands for OWNER!!) choice. Make AAD a mandatory equipment requirement, ban hook turns, it is all their choice. If you don't want to jump there don't, but don't whine about them being safety nazis. They are only protecting their liabilities and welfare. -

Taylor610 replied to Darius11's topic in The Bonfire
OK here is a quick question... what is safer operaiting a DZ that allows jumpers not to have a AAD or operaiting a DZ that allows hook turns? *** Get more experience than 25 jumps and more money invested in the sport than whatever it is that you have and then I will consider that a valid question. You see, it is not an issue of hook turns vs AADs it is whether on not a DZO (O stands for Owner) to decide what the SOPs are going to be at HIS/HER DZ. If they chose to say yellow jump suits only, it is fine, because it is their decision. If you don't want to wear yellow, fine, take your red jump suit somewhere else. Get the point yet, it is not whether or not they are safety nazis, it is a Business Owner deciding what is best for his Business. PS The "Check Spelling" button is right beside the post reply button. -

but they should keep the rules tight enough to keep people safe without making them feel overburdened. *** And the burden of explaining this "tradgedy" to the FAA, to the Media, to the insuing laywers, the destraught family, the city, the county, the state, the USPA...THAT should be left behind to the DZO who has his lifes savings invested into the DZ, and that should be done because you, with your 25 jumps and "A" license are now smart enough to decide what his future will be based on your current safety track record. Take your burden to another DZ. I have no interest in your $20. I sold my DZ partly because I got tired of listening to this kind of whining. -

You are absolutely right. It is a great letter and you should be able to smoke yourself into the ground doing 220 in a head down position and do it all in front of people who live in the neighborhood right beside the DZ. You should also leave it all to be explained by the DZO, to the press, to your loved ones, to the people of the local "quiet community of..." just to keep his business alive. Guess what, it happens, and it has always been a huge piece of heartburn to me for someone to call a Business Owner a "Safety Nazi" because he said AAD's are mandatory. Well as a DZO I did it, but I did it after I had to do all of the things I listed above and more. If you don't want to wear and AAD, fine, pack your gear bag up and take your $20 and bad attitude somewhere else. I don't want to clean up your mess. Understand this, it is the Business Owners right to decide what he expects of his customers. If you don't want to do business there, fine, go away, but quit your whining. The DZO is being a smart business man, not a nazi. I hate that this post is in the Bonefire, please feel free to move it to SC so I don't have to see it again. -

Yeah, we all called him Mongo for about 3 weeks and then he showed up at the DZ and I said hey Mongo, and he fired off, "I looked that up in the dictionary and that ain't funny!!!" We absolutely rolled!!!

Ok, it was my Brother-in-Law, whom I think the world of and enjoy spending time with. But I nicknamed him Mongo. Been with him for almost 20 years now. Oh yeah, his last name is Loyd...

Well it's about time. I mean I had to walk away from a thread hijack in process cause I was accused of spilling the beans when I thought it was common knowledge...That was stinkin' 3 months ago!!!! Well I am glad you are "Postin' N Boastin" finally!!! You are the man Chris! And Wendy, well what was she thinking, I mean it's you dude!!!! Congrats My Brother!!!! (Has it quit snowing yet???)

Can I have a job under you? *** Now THAT is excellent...

Excellent. *** This has probably been the most excellent non-hijack, (pause) hijack of a thread I have ever seen... Just impressive!

Ew! Moobie juice everywhere! *** LMAO!!! You made me spit on my screen C'mon Turtle, Jiggly Moobies...mental image...I'm with GFD...EEWWWWW!!!!

I'm not sure if this post is a nice example of that or an even better example of an outlier. *** Yes...yes, I think I see what you are saying, however isn't it true that once the Control Limit Spectrum has reached it's maximum capacity of variables, the final output will be an achieved level of sexual tension so high until it will probably cause both Turtle and Duck Moobies to explode?

Krisanne, I have lived here all my life and the options are wide open. Kiwah is comparable to Hilton Head as far as "price" goes. Everything there is a dollar more, just because of the name. they both offer wonderful eating, golf, tennis and a few attractions. Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, and Sullivans Island are all very close in their amenities, but they are all 3 very tightly packed in the sense of houses on top of houses, and also because of the names stay fairly crowded year round. There are a ton of "local residents" that live there year round. Edisto Beach would be the most laid back and probably the least expensive. Not a bunch of tourist stuff on the beach itself, just 3 1/2 miles of beach. That time of the year it is still pretty quiet. It does have some great food on the Island and a couple of good bars with entertainment. Of all of the beaches that I am familiar with it is my favorite, but I like the quieter side of things. Only about 35-45 minutes from Downtown Charleston. Hope this helps.
