  1. Don't mean to sound harsh here, but I don't think you should be worried about your "friend" not having his website. He isn't worried about you not having enough money to pay basic living expenses. Business is business. If he's upset that's too bad. He'll get over it.
  2. I don't encounter snakes much, but the pigeons are everywhere in New York City. They're huge MFers - like small turkeys. They fly at you from all directions forcing you to run to the left, then to the right, then in circles to get away from them. Then they shit on your head. It's like they think it's funny - "Look guys, here comes Lisa. Watch this!" I think I'll take a snake over a pigeon any day.
  3. That's great. It's so hard to lose a beloved pet. They really do bring so much joy into our lives. Here's my baby. She jumps three feet off the ground and spins every time she sees me - that's if she's not taking a nap. She was no replacement for the Golden we lost very suddenly but she has brought so much happiness. I know Helen will do the same for you. Be sure to post pics as soon as possible.
  4. I couldn't agree more. I took his class last summer and again just two weeks ago. If it wasn't for his advice and coaching I would have been seriously broken. Scott Miller's canopy course is definitely one of the best investments anyone can make in their skydiving.
  5. How long will Sussex have the skyvan?
  6. No Tamales? Isn't that the same as Burger King not having any burgers? I've heard good things about Soho Cantina on Prince Street. I've never been but I can check out the menu on the way home if you want. Also, Mexican Radio on Lafayette St is a popular lunch spot for many of my co-workers. Let me know if you try them.
  7. Despite all of the talk about what a tight knit family skydiving is, there are many places where experienced people won't give you the time of day when you jump there or they do so many tandems/AFFs that they don't have enough time during the day to jump with you...Quote Find another DZ. That's what I did and I couldn't be happier. It's 160 miles away but worth the 3 hour drive. I admit that showing up at a new DZ with low jump numbers was very scary but I've made a whole new group of friends to jump with and experienced skydivers don't have any hang-ups about jumping with newer jumpers. I hated being in a position where I felt like I had to beg people to jump with me. Now I don't have to worry about it. Good luck!
  8. Hi Chris, Flash forward to one year from today, and your post will read: AFTER A TWO YEAR LAYOFF DUE TO MY INJURY, I FINALLY GOT TO JUMP AGAIN. IT FELT GREAT TO BE BACK IN THE SKY. I look forward to reading that post. In the meantime, hope you're feeling better now. You're in my prayers for a quick and complete recovery. Lisa
  9. I started two years ago at age 35. I have two friends that also started at the same time as me. One was 40 at the time and the other was 47. I jump at two dropzones and most of the people I jump with are my age or older. I would say your timing is perfect. Welcome to the addiction.
  10. A typical girl.... Quote Excuse me Ivan but there is NOTHING typical about me.
  11. I had my teeth bleached at a Brite Smile location in NYC this past February. It cost $525.00 plus another $125.00 for the toothpaste and mouthwash to maintain the whiteness. My teeth are nice and white but are so damned sensitive now - a side effect I was not aware of til after the fact. They always hurt to the point where I actually regret having it done. But they look great so I guess that's all that matters.
  12. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looks like I'll spend the weekend hugging my rig.

  14. Hi Chris, I am so sorry to hear that is happening to you. If it's any consolation, you are not alone in this type of experience. I've had cancer twice and both times my best friends abandonded me. During my last difficult surgery a few years ago, I had come out of intensive care and was hooked up to machines and couldn't move. My best friend (who I had helped through some really tough times) called to tell me she wouldn't be able to visit me cuz she had gotten this blind date and wanted to go out with him. She also wanted my opinion on what she should wear. The next day she had a very important hair appointment so a hospital visit was definitely out of the question that day too. Being abandoned by my friends made my recovery even more lonely and painful but it made me a lot stronger and it made me see my relationships more objectively. Those people that "couldn't handle" what I was going through. As a result they have been cut away and are no longer in my life. I've never been happier. Unfortunately a lot of people can't handle it when bad things happen to their friends and they respond by pulling away. They're around in the beginning but when recovery doesn't come quickly enough they can become frightened or bored of the situation. I'm not making excuses for them but I understand that reality. It's a difficult and painful experience, but it's a real eye-opener too. One friend actually told me that I had no idea how difficult my illness was for her. You may have to just let those people go. It will be tough to do but it will clear the way for you to meet new people and make new friends. Family can also be an amazing support system too. I wish you a full and speedy recovery and hope to see you in sky one day. Lisa
  15. HOOK LINE AND SINKER. You got me!
  16. MEMO: TO ALL EMPLOYEES FROM: CEO DATE: July 27, 2004 RE: New Employee Training Program In order to assure the highest levels of quality work and productivity from employees, it will be our policy to keep all employees well trained through our program of SPECIAL HIGH INTENSITY TRAINING (S.H.I.T.). We are trying to give our employees more S.H.I.T. than anyone else. If you feel that you do not receive your share of S.H.I.T. on the course, please see your supervisor. You will immediately be placed at the top of the S.H.I.T. list and our supervisors are especially skilled at seeing you get all the S.H.I.T. you can handle. Employees who don't take their S.H.I.T. will be placed in DEPARTMENTAL EMPLOYEE EVALUATIONS PROGRAMS (D.E.E.P.S.H.I.T.). Those who fail to take D.E.E.P.S.H.I.T. seriously will have to go to EMPLOYEE ATTITUDE TRAINING (E.A.T.S.H.I.T.). Since our supervisors took S.H.I.T. before they were promoted, they don't have to do S.H.I.T. anymore and are full of S.H.I.T. already. If you are full of S.H.I.T. you may be interested in a job teaching others. We can add your name to our BASIC UNDERSTANDING LIST OF LEADERS (B.U.L.L.S.H.I.T.). For employees who are intending to pursue a career in management and consulting, we will refer you to the department of MANAGERIAL OPERATIONAL RESEARCH EDUCATION (M.O.R.E.S.H.I.T.). If you have further questions, please direct them to our HEAD OF TEACHING, SPECIAL INTENSITY TRAINING (H.O.T.S.H.I.T.). Thank you, BOSS IN GENERAL SPECIAL HIGH INTENSITY TRAINING (B.I.G.S.H.I.T.) and THE DIRECTOR UNDER THE MAIN BUREAU OF SUPER HIGH INTENSITY TRAINING (The D.U.M.B.S.H.I.T)
  17. I started wearing weights on AFF level 3. They really made a difference and I didn't have to work so hard. If you're floaty and can't stay with your group I don't see why you shouldn't start using them now.
  18. Try keeping your legs together as your canopy is opening. It keeps your body more symmetrical when the canopy is opening and helps prevent line twists. I'm not an instructor but Scott Miller gave me this advice when I took his canopy class last year and it's worked very well for me. No line twists and my openings are more on-heading.
  19. Chris, Wish I knew what to say but I guess there's nothing that will make this better for you. I'm so sorry. Condolences to you and your family - many hugs and vibes too. Your dad is in a better place. Big fat blues to him. Lisa
  20. LOL, A similar thing happened to me a while ago. My company has a gym in the building and every once in a while I actually go to work out. Since I take the train everyday, I had to carry my workout clothes in a tote bag to work. I get on the train one day and start looking through my tote bag for something. As I pulled my hand out of my bag, a pink lacy thong goes flying down the aisle. Stood up, picked up my undies, and sat down like nothing was wrong. Nope. Nothing embarassing about that situation.
  21. Oh man, that's just mean! The view from the inside is the same whether they lock or not? Quote Well, um, yes. Fortunately, I've had the neighbors in the adjoining stalls lock their doors so I haven't had to worry. The good news is the restrooms are in a separate section of the restaurants so diners don't have to watch. But you know, it really is a little weird when I think about it.
  22. I work in NYC and there are actually two nearby restaurants that have restrooms just like that. As long as you lock the door, no one can see inside but the user can see out. Don't lock the door and everyone gets a show. One of them actually plays movie clips for your bathroom enjoyment.
  23. Values to twist, morals to corrupt. It's difficult to plan my day at times. Logging on to dz.com and destroying the fiber of corporate America, I do what I can to make the world a better place. Quote Well, alright then...... Keep up the good work!!!
