My brother runs marathons and even ran one of the ultra-marathons. He recommends having a good mileage base down for a few months before doing some serious marathon training. A good base, according to him, would be something like being able to do five miles three times a week and throwing in an additional seven or eight miler on the weekends. Then again, my brother is a fucking gazelle and insane human being with regards to running. When he ran the Seattle marathon this year, he called it a training event, rode his bike 25 mi to the race, then had his wife bring his bike to the finish line so he could bike back home. Fucktard. Had I known he would be doing something that stupid I would have been at his house in a lawn chair drinking tequila, waiting with a paintball gun. I think you've got a point, dude - and it's not just with gun control. Support for the following have been DNC staples for years: gun control, pre-natal murder, and pre-meditated racial discrimination for employment/collegiate entry. Support for all three has become harder and harder to justify as more and more statistics and better technology sheds light on these issues. Yet the Dems have not altered their positions in the least. They've dumbed down certain portions of their voting base so much that altering their position in any manner on these issues would alienate the very voting base they wish to capture by supporting such positions, however untenable when faced with the facts. I really think the party will reform. Carville and Begala just wrote a book that is supposed to be pretty good. Liberalism isn't a bad philosophy - especially at local levels of gov't (I think it bad on the national stage) - but I think the party representing that philosophy has become so controlled by its special interest groups it is almost incapable of doing liberalism justice. Conservativism isn't doing much better, the majority of Republicans having all but abandoned fiscal conservatism these days. I do see your point though - it's very, very true. Dammit! I like to shoot pool, even though I am not good. The pool joint near my house is OK, except for one thing. They allow people to smoke inside. I fucking HATE. I mean I fucking HATE smelling that shit. However, I shot pool anyway. Now I have to strip down naked, throw every fucking thing I wore into a laundry basket, and set it outside so the fucking stench of the fucking smokers won't stink my house up. I'm so pissed off I went to shoot pool I think I'm going to drink some tequila. Er...I was going to drink tequila anyway, but now I'm going to drink more of it. I'm very libertarian in many aspects, but I wish smoking were banned at all public places. Period. I fucking hate it. I hate it when I'm in a restaurant, I hate it when I'm in a pool hall, I REALLY hate it when I'm reading on the beach and some fuckhead lights up and the stench wafts my way. I hate it when I'm running and some fucktard's smoke gets in my path. I hate it when I want to sit outside at a restaraunt and enjoy a meal outdoors, and all of a sudden I end up surrounded by fucking smokers because they can't smoke indoors, so they come smoke outdoors where I'm eating and ruin my fucking meal with the stench of cigarettes. There. I've said it. I need to get out of these fucking stenched up clothes and set them outside to soak in a bucket or something. I need to find a no-smoking pool place or buy myself a pool table I guess. Fuck am I angry right now. Perhaps I'll go on an evening run to clear my lungs and vent the anger and then drink some tequila. [/rant] Anybody feel the same way? I know it's my own fault for going, so I'm a bit ticked at myself, but I wanted to shoot pool and the consequences of doing so have fucking angered me. I just viewed O'Reilly's Talking Points Memo on FOX's website. Interesting. He slams the Bush administration for doing little to promote U.S. energy independence - a justifiable slam. He ends the memo by stating that the the dependence of the U.S. upon foreign energy sources would lead the nation into armed conflict. Interesting - and likely true. I'm a fairly green sort of person and a huge biodiesel & nuke energy proponent. I digress and need to get going...'tis Sunday after all. Any thoughts on this from the group?
