I agree. The current spending spree is completely unsustainable. I think all departments need to find ways to reduce spending - not cut spending ie increase it by less than planned, but actually REDUCE spending.

Revenues from excise taxes are up only about 4 Billion since '00. Revenue from corporate income taxes and custom duties are up, whereas revenues from individual income taxes have decreased slightly since '00. Tax cuts fueled the economic recovery.

Added oil and gas income? Please explain. I think the recovering economy had more to do with the increase in revenues, though I think the tax cuts themselves did contribute. The fact remains that revenues after GWB's tax cut increased, so those screaming about the deficit being caused by tax cuts have no credibility whatsoever. Spending more than you have causes debt.

In light of the current conflict, why should they? Hezbollah chose to embed themselves among civilians and unfortunately the civilians they hide behind are being killed. Very sad and very tragic. Doing nothing is not an option for Israel. If Hezbollah wants peace it need merely return the hostage soldiers and lay down its arms. Not gonna happen - they don't want peace and don't care about the Lebanese populace. Unsure as to the teachings of Judaism, but you might want to state why you think Jewish people should condemn Israel's actions. OK. As food for thought, would any of you who know what the PBGC is support federal $$ being used to bail it out if/when it goes bankrupt? I say hell no, but that's just me.

One of the main problems with attempting to nail corporations with heavy taxes is that the corporation will simply relocate to another country or state where it is cheaper to do business. It's a multi-national environment these days for most major corporations, and if the cost of doing business in the U.S. becomes too great, other countries beckon. London is already a much better place to list than Wall Street in many regards. Who the hell would want to subject themselves to SOX unnecessarily? Taxing corporations will not solve the national debt crisis. Controlling spending - and reforming our mandatory spending programs - is the solution to that. Read the data I posted for you. Pay particular attention to the mandatory spending data. Also pay attention to the tax revenue data. The gov't posted increased revenues after GWB's tax cuts turned the economy around. Deal with it. Spending more than one has causes debt - not tax cuts. If you'd read the CBO data I posted, you'd know that 2005 saw the U.S. gov't take in record revenues. If you were familiar with the budget, the debt, and the structure of either, you'd never make such a statement. The CBO, Bureau of the Public Debt, and OMB all have superb online resources for you to learn about such things. I suggest you avail yourself of their use. Not true. The Dems have played the role of the minority in the Senate expertly. Even a lone senator may put an anonymous hold on a bill according to Senate rules.

Actually, he made it worse with the prescription drug program. To his credit, he did seek to eliminate ineffective programs from DoEd and was crucified by the left for it - some of them howling simultaneously about the debt! You might lok at federal tax revenues from year to year over GWB's term.

LoL. Check out CBO projections for future mandatory spending...I recommend doing so on an empty stomach. Now, when PBGC goes tits up and the politicians decide to fund its shortfalls, you'll retch some more. Mandatory spending is the greatest threat we face collectively as a nation today.
