They made a conscious choice to use an illegal drug. Now, in contrast, Rush and others like him became addicted to a drug after being prescribed it by a doctor. Neither he nor anyone in his predicament made a conscious choice to use an illegal drug. They did not CHOOSE to get injured. They CHOSE to make use of a legal means to mitigate pain induced by some sort of medical condition. The substance is addictive, and he fell prey to that addiction after using it in a legal manner. Completely different and you know it. Because Limbaugh is such an ardent and vocal critic of the left and has lambasted drug users in the past, lefties everywhere are taking great glee from his predicament. Your referral to Limbaugh as a shining star of the right sounds quite nice but I can't remember him writing any legislation, submitting any budgets, or anything else. He's a great source of ENTERTAINMENT for us right leaning folk, but not much else. That's OK. Let the left lambast the man. Does that diminish what he's accomplished in talk radio? No. Does his addiction make him the moral equal of some crack addict? Absolutely not. When compared from a moral standpoint with TeddyK(D-UI), ALGORE, Al Franken, Byrd (D-KKK), or El Jefe Clintonista or most other lefties I'd give Limbaugh the edge any day. I'm for making 8 October National Drug Addiction Awareness Day in honor of Rush as long as 19 July is National Drunk Driving Awareness Day. It's quite sad that Rush has become addicted to drugs and made no comments on his previous remarks about drug users & addicts. I hope he does in the future. If he does, I can forgive his not doing so now in light of what he must be going through. I fully expect to hear from him on that issue however. The thoughts of your post are so unorganized I can't really respond to them in a contiguous manner. A few remarks, in no particular order: - If you choose to believe that Pat Robertson was actually suggesting detonation of a nuclear device inside of a building full of people here in the US - regardless of the folks inside the building - and meant it in a non-hyperbolic sense, believe that if you like. Just don't expect me to take you seriously. - Mr. Powell's spokesmen did respond to Pat Robertson's comments. Well they should have. I should be very disappointed in them if they didn't. Now if the CNN story had addressed any DoS response to Mr. Mowbray's book, I should have found it most interesting. - Mrs. Ehrlich's husband is a Republican. How about those Fox folks making a fool of her? Such left wing bias over there at Fox. The political stature of her husband makes this newsworthy - just like Mrs. Jeb Bush's failure to pay import duties a couple of years back. - Those of us who are familiar with Mr. Robertson and Mr. Mowbray find it fairly amazing a story focusing on this interview could be written in ANY real news setting without addressing a SINGLE POINT Mr. Mowbray makes in his book. Instead of addressing any of them, CNN chose to use a ludicrous use of hyperbole and make a story out of that. I never said the article was untrue. I inferred it wasn't newsworthy and devoid of intellectual material. The article is representative something I'd expect to see in a gossip column. Now if the article had addressed Mowbray's arguments and State's response to them, it would have been newsworthy. 'Christian Coalition uses Hyperbole to Describe Book's Theme' would have been a good title for the article given its content. The writers had specific intent with this article, and that was to embarass Pat Robertson and the Christian Coalition AND to possibly detract from the points Mowbray makes in his book. Again, I fail to see how the conclusion in question is reached. I mention politics as a comparison of the different 'disdains' people have. My own is for the democratic party. Did you even read this article? Note that the article doesn't mention Mr. Mowbray's arguments at all - only Mr. Robertson's allusion to a nuclear device thrown into Foggy Bottom. One wonders how this can be called news when no background on Mr. Mowbray's argument is considered relevant. If the State department spokesman had responded to some of the arguments in Mowbray's book, he might have been impressive. I seriously doubt that he did so - but we'd never know from this lovely unbiased and objective[sic] CNN article, would we? Contrast this with their coverage of, let's say, the NEA, NAACP, or AFL-CIO and any statements of any of those groups and you'll see why many of us love FOX so much. Dr. Feulner writes some interesting articles sometimes. This isn't his best work, but I thought his response far better than NPR's attack. Heritage puts out some outstanding work. Check it out sometime. I'm a proud donor. IRT the comment someone made about 'evil left wingers out to get me' or something to that effect, please consider the fact that Heritage was audited FOUR YEARS IN A ROW during the Clintonista years. NEA and the NAACP both file as 501(c) organizations and neither have been audited for their massive political expenditures - even under the 'evil' republican administrations. I can think of few groups that have done more good either. I'll edit this post so as not to post whore, but a couple of thoughts prior to me logging off. I'm extremely disappointed with the tenor of the posts on this thread. Some folks who are obviously quite educated have said some pretty flagrantly derogatory things about the Catholic Church - of which I'm a member. I really don't care what other people think about me, but the apparent anger and hatred for the Church I find troublesome. Perhaps it's growing up in KKK country as a Catholic that makes me sensitive to such things, but disturbed I am nonetheless. The Church has its flaws and its dark points in history. If you gave me ten examples of terrible things it has done I'd probably find ten more quicker than you could. All that comes from Rome and the Chair of Peter isn't necessarily accepted as Gospel by all Catholics - not by a long shot - and sometimes what comes out of there is very very very worthy of the criticism it receives. However, extrapolating a hatred and disdain for the Church as a whole due to disagreement with some of its doctrine reeks of stupidity, obstinacy, and ignorance. The Church has done more good for more people throughout history than any single organization I can think of, and I'm a pretty well read son-of-a-bitch. True, it's done some pretty awful things as well, but all in all I think the good they've done far outweighs the bad. Having traveled to many third world countries myself and seen what the Church is doing there, I can state unequivocally that I'm proud to be a part of that organization.
