Don't think that Hitlery has a chance in '08, but it does seem that the GOP has won. Excellent. The onus is now on the Republicans to really kick some ass over the next four years. One thing they MUST do is stop being such wussies in the Senate. Play hardball, the way the lefties do. With 2-3 SCOTUS appointments likely over the next few years, they'll have to or we'll get 'Souter'ed' again. GWB needs to push for partial privatization of SS, continue to work HC, keep the pressure on the GWOT, and seriously consider the flat tax or fair tax initiative. The Dems gave it their best (which is a bit disgusting when you think about it). They ran a campaign completely based on hatred of the incumbent. Dem 527's were outspending conservative ones by a 23:1 margin at one point. The NYT and CBS were leading the vanguard of the Dem assault with the LA Times close behind. And they still came up short. It must be depressing to be a leftie and see the swath of red splayed across the map. I mean just look at the blue - NE, a couple of great lakes states, HI, and the left coast. Congrats GWB! I don't at all. NY, like CA, goes to the Democrats because of New York City. The rest of the state is conservative. CA is predominantly conservative if you remove LA and San Francisco from the equation (and UC Berkely too, of course).

This year the elections and the threads in here are sparking a few synapses in the thick Anvil skull, so I thought I'd share an observation with everyone. I think the S.C. has become more stressed and nasty as of late - much like the presidential campaign. That's why you haven't seen me posting as much in here as I normally do (political junkie that I am). There's lots of interesting things going on in politics right now but many bad vibes overall when discussing them - here or elsewhere. Can't really put my finger on why I feel this way, but feel this way I do. It saddens me a bit because I do so enjoy bantering about such things. I find it odd that such a level of bad vibes can occur so frequently between so many people who participate in the greatest sport in the world (yes, I know I've been banned before; it was bullshit and darned near everyone here knows it. Call me hypocrite if you like, it bothers me not at all I assure you). There. It's off o' my chest. Regardless of who you'll be supporting, everyone who can please go out and vote. Monterey Bay does have a very nice view. You will not be landing on the beach, however, unless they are doing a demo. Hollister has by far and away more fun jumpers - only a handful go to Monterey for a myriad of reasons. The view at Hollister is also excellent and you are virtually guaranteed to be on some fun jumps with some of the locals unless you decide you'd like to go solo all day. I'd be very surprised if you showed up and people weren't asking you to be part of their jumps within five-ten minutes. The customer service/care at Hollister IS a step or two above Monterey in my opinion. H-town fun jumpers span the gamut from folks just off student-status to kickass RW and Free Fly folks. The weather at Hollister is a whole lot more cooperative than in Monterey (I lived in Monterey for two and a half years). If you do decide to hit Monterey and it's fogged/stormed in, then call H-town because there's a REALLY good chance they're jumping. I've jumped at both and consider Hollister my home, though I did learn at Monterey and have many jumps there. Hollister gets my vote.
