Saw this article and found it interesting. Anybody have any thoughts on this? Part of me says that stations should NOT air political ads that are blatantly false. Another part of me says 'why turn down paid advertising? The truthfulness of the content is a reflection on and the responsibility of the advertiser.' Interesting. Beers to all,

Oh, far from one-sided Bill - at least now. GWB stayed silent far too long, in fact. I'm glad he's firing back. It's quite odd that you give credibility to those claiming the President misled the American people with regards to the war on Iraq whilst simultaneously admitting that those same people neither had access to all the same information the President had nor even availed themselves of the information they DID have. How can they be considered credible in their accusations when they did not even avail themselves - then or probably even now - of the intelligence that was/is available to them? It would be akin to going to a book club and telling the author of a book he was misleading the fellow book club members about the plot of his/her book without having read the book yourself. The 'drink from the firehose' analogy isn't mine, though it is apropos in this case. It was also used when describing the endless requests of the democrats for Harriet Miers' writings. The Dems were screaming for more only a couple of days after only 20K pages or so were released. Humorous then - and now. Senate leaders know how to get the WH's attention - the letter of which you speak was a political gimmick. If you've proof of there being no dissenting opinions within the Cabinet or any group of people, then by all means present it. By stating 'listen to people who disagree with him' what leftists really mean is do as people who disagree with him wish, i.e. GWB should do what he thinks is NOT best for the country. Not going to happen. The only propaganda war I've really noticed has been that of the Dems against anything the president says or does - and their newest one of proclaiming that Bush intentionally misled the country to generate support for an invasion. Which one are you talking about, Bill? Anyone trying to set a timetable for a US withdrawal with temporal milestones really needs to get a clue. Political conditions and facts of life seldom comport with such things. To even insinuate we are not supporting the current Iraqi government is ludicrous to the point of absurdity. Not every member of Congress holds clearance to read the PDB nor should they. People who drink & drive young women off of bridges into creeks and cheat on Spanish exams in college really aren't trustworthy enough to hold such clearances - wouldn't you agree? Some don't hold clearances because they compromised information when they had clearances in the past. I don't want such a dirtbag having access to the PDB - do you? Despite that, given the FACT that the majority of congressmen/women who held sufficient clearance to read what was proferred did not even take the time to do so, why do you think that they would have read copies of the PDB were they rendered unto them on a daily basis? If they can't handle a trickle, what makes you think they're ready to drink from a firehose? This Dem attack ploy is humorous yet sad. What would you have the President do, Bill? Ignore the endless barrage of attacks against him? The attacks have been coming for quite some time and given their nature, I felt the President's responses quite reserved. What sort of revision would you like to see? Iraq un-invaded? The fact of the matter is that the US is currently IN Iraq and setting a timetable for withdrawal would be utterly stupid. Setting conditions that should be met for withdrawal would be acceptable, but that is not what the Dems are asking for. They want a timetable for use as a political weapon later, knowing full well that circumstances dont' often comport with timetables set from afar. Justify the 180 swing of the Dems in congress however you like, but the fact is they HAD access to information and most did not avail themselves of it. Many who did still voted in favor of the war. Mixed feelings here. I'm familiar with the way a drunk driver can ruin lives in a very up close and personal manner. Part of me says 'screw the bastards! Make them get a DUI tattoo on their foreheads too!' Another part of me says that we, as a society, have made this particular crime out to be more heinous than it actually is. In all honesty, how many of us here on DZ.com can say we've NEVER had a couple of beers then driven? How many of us here can state with a straight face that everyone is impaired the same amount if they have the same BAC (ABC in some cases)? Some people have excellent reflexes with a 0.1 BAC...others aren't. It varies significantly with myriad factors coming into play. I know a few people with DUIs that really shouldn't have them. I know a few that don't have them that probably should. Can't really say I support the license plate thing. Could make the cars of those people targets for keying/vandalism and the people driving those cars targets of prejudice that might or might not be deserved. My US$0.02. Just wait 'till basketball season, dude! UGAg looks good at football this year, unfortunately, but I feel we have potential to beat them if we actually show up and play - we seem to be about 50/50 at that this year. Basketball, however, is looking good for the Jackets! Dustin - Oregon deserves that spot I believe. OR and OR St. have had some damned good teams over the past few years and never get the respect they deserve by virtue of their skeds. One of my all time favorite bowl games was when OR ST kicked the living HELL out of Notre Dame 69 to 3 or something like that.

Singapore kicks ass. Nothing like a night at the Long Bar at Raffle's. Great time, everytime in Singapore. Tiger Beer does suck though.

You'll be able to get by in English - no worries. Sometimes late at night, the cabbies pretend not to speak English, though. What I used to do is snag a card from the hotel so I could show it to them. You'll have a good time - I'd recommend visiting elsewhere in Asia on the same trip. Thailand perhaps.

Dear God I love that city. Been there quite a bit, both pre and post handover. Not sure if I'd make the trip to Asia just to see Hong Kong, however. Hmm...things to do....a trip up to Victoria Peaks is a must - the view from up there at night is fantastic; during the day as well. Shopping in Aberdeen market is always pretty good. A drunken night in Wanchai is probably a given. Lun Kwai Fun (spelling? been too long) is a good place to drink as well. Don't miss walking around Kowloon to shop. The Star Ferry is a nice way to get between HK and Kowloon - rather cheap as well. Delaney's Irish Pub in Kowloon used to be a great place for lunch. Have fun if you go!

My new nephew, Jon Isaac, was born today. Seven pounds and ten ounces. Unfortunately, my sister says that I'm not allowed to give him tequila for several years, but I figure she'll come to her senses sooner or later. Speaking of tequila, some Patron and a good book are calling my name...just wanted to share the good news. Boring nite for me today.

I've gotten quite a chuckle over the Dems' actions during the past few weeks - starting with Senator Reid's little stunt on the Senate floor. It seems they've expanded their horizons a bit. Instead of a merely 'oppose anything Bush says or does' strategy, they've now adopted a 'oppose anything Bush says or does' and 'state Bush misled America about Iraq every other sentence' strategy. At least they've a two pronged attack now - perhaps it's a hint that some are learning how to count. The new prong of the Dem political attack machine is quite humorous to me, given the many, many pro-war comments made by so many Dems quite recently. Many of those leading the vanguard of the 'misled America' attack are among those who have made several hawkish statements in the recent past. Hannity used such comments to make Kucinich look like an idiot on his radio show a couple of days ago. Bill, Senator Reid's quote shows a real lack of understanding of the current war. Drawing parallels between the WWII time frame and the war on terror or the capture of Imperial Japan and the capture of OBL doesn't really impress upon me a feeling that Sen. Reid has a firm grasp on things. If Sen. Reid were serious about closing the border, he would support Senator Tancredo in his efforts to do so. We all know that he doesn't. He needs the illegals to vote for him later. I can think of few other people who have done MORE to draw the partisan line in Congress more than Sen. Reid as of late, so his comments on that elicited a chuckle out of me when I read it. I would agree with Senator Reid in one thing - this Republican controlled congress has been a colossal disappointment. I'm going to sip some good tequila and read a book tonight. Hope everyone is doing well.
