IPC World Cup Opening Show Pics

Heat! -
I should have known to qualify that statement. So let me now... DUH! I should have said, for those who get married... And I also mentioned the divorce, adultery thing. Almost everyone I know is divorced. Despite any individual feelings/cynicism/beliefs/naivete on the subject of marriage in general, for some - marriage is a hopeful and beautiful expression. For hetero and homosexuals alike.
-
Cheating is lying. Whatever you feel about monogamy, however you feel about love vs. fucking, whether you tell, don't tell, do it once, do it all the time. Whatever. If you do anything that is contrary to your commitment, on whatever level - you're cheating. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
-
Exactly! The same goes for lying. If Joe lies then the next day tells Sue he lied. He still lied. I think Foz was agreeing with that - and that Dove was the one questioning it. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
-
The words, in my mind, are interchangeable. "What if he cheats/lies, and then tells you about it afterwards?" It's still cheating. It's still lying. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

Cheating is LYING! Plain and very simple. On a very personal note: it disgusts me that there is actually any ambiguity on this. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

I wholeheartedly agree here. As far as marriage is concerned, it's in the government's best interest if we get married and have children. We're perceived as more stable, more apt to settle down - buy a house - go to work everyday and drive the economy. As far as the Govt interest, really, it's about money. I'm not sure what the religious aspect of it is - I don't follow a particular religion. Marriage has become a symbol and public acknowledgment of love and lifelong commitment - as well as a civil right/legal issue - in and out of the religious parameters. There is no requirement of religious affinity or affiliation to get married. Nor is there any scientific/biological test to determine whether a hetero couple is suitable for marriage. Why would there be one for gays? Fear and ignorance. We're afraid that if gays can marry or if it is even publicly accepted then more people will 'turn' gay. That it will 'tarnish' the institution of marriage (as if adultery and divorce haven't already done that!) That homosexuality is a sin or a biological/societal perversion. Among many other examples of fear and ignorance. If marriage were truly about love and commitment in the eyes of the law - it would be legal. A homosexual couple is not going to produce any unplanned births. I'd say it's a complementary fit.

You're uses of the words logic and objective interest me. You say that adoption logically and objectively is a result someone else's fuckup. I understand where you're going with that statement. If ALL births were planned, there would be no unwanted babies. (accidental death of both parents and all other exceptions excluded for sake of argument) But then you use that argument to support your position that 2 people who love each other shouldn't have the same rights/benefits as 2 other people who love each other. (logical and objective) If it's your opinion (or your religion's) position that marriage is for procreation, has no inherent benefit to society, is a sin, etc. - that's NOT logical or objective. Keri Farrington is competing. I think Marianne Kramer, Amy Chmelecki and Missy Nelson are the only other chicks on the current PST roster - Marianne has been on the tour this year, she could be there. But for sure - cheers to all of them!!

If you order, see if you can get 2000. Later is OK, but you'll taste the difference. And while you're at it, order the Kirralah - if you like Rosemount, you won't be disappointed.
-
Careful! You'e talking about the one I love. That's like posting RW is for people who don't really like to fly!! Cheers! Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

NO!!! Find an indie video place, they'll have it, I swear. NOT to be missed. The film itself is wonderful - humanizes a population that has become unhuman to so many. But, honestly, the "Making of..." will lift you spiritually. For me, I felt proud to be human. Edited: and you'll see, it's not about $. (Marc is who he is - and although I don't know him very well, not at all trying to 'promote' his film.) It's not about commercialism - it's about humanity. If you can't find it now, remember the name and find it some other time. It's a jewel - you'll be proud to have 'stumbled' upon it later. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

2000 was a great year for shiraz grapes! If you can find 2000 Rosemount, you can't go wrong. Anything else will be better from 2000 than later but Rosemount is wonderful. Another I've discovered is Kirralah - it's a co-op of Rosemount and Mondavi vineyards and is beautiful. It's spicy with an incredibly smooth finish - great for Thai, Indian or Med spicy food. Seriously, I live for Shiraz (and Syrah). Oh right, and skydiving. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

Post your Hot Swoop Pic(s)

Some cool NEW video of the PD Team at Norway and Rantoul - swoops with Katanas, etc. -
If you haven't seen it - rent it. It's a documentary about a group of people who lived in the train tunnels under NYC. Won a number of Indie awards including 3 from Sundance 2000. Make sure to watch the Special Feature - 'The Making of...' That part is incredible! Deeply fascinating. Interesting! I was expecting the first reponse to question my use of a Mac, not the use of Netscape!

I am feeling sad about this thread. I know what it feels like to love this sport - therefore I do have something in common with Steel. I'm speaking generally but personally, as well, as I try to explain why this thread has affected me: When a person on a dz is perceived as dangerous, it effects everyone around him in a number of ways: 1. in the air - look out for that guy, he might hurt me or someone else 2. if he goes in - especially when others expect that it will happen - it tarnishes the sport and your specific dz 3. if he goes in - we all know what it's like to lose a friend, or know someone who has - and know how it affects those left behind But most importantly, the dangerous person represents a living, breathing, in-our-face reminder of what we're all trying to avoid within ourselves. "The Dangerous Person" that lives in each and every one of us - that we spend a great deal of time trying to 'learn' away. All of us at one time or another will deny that it's there - but we all know denial is not really an option. By reminding ourselves that The Dangerous Person will always be lurking inside, we are compelled to keep learning. I don't know you (Steel) or your experience in this sport. The only thing I know for sure is that even through the angered and frustrated reactions, everyone here only wants safety for you (and for us). And that means humility and learning. Just try to remember that the community in this sport is strong. When you're safe and doing amazing things and enjoying success - everyone will rally around you and be supportive.

I have a stupid question that I couldn't publicly admit to asking. Please PM me if you know anything about this kind of setup. BTW, I know there is such thing as tech support - but talk back is like the oracle! Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

WOW this is the single most random thread I can remember reading! Good for you! I haven't really felt like a post-whore until just now! BTW, cover all of your food. If you let it get too dirty it will stink up whatever you try to nuke later. (This is however a very effective way of adding 'smoke-flavoring' to your lentils!) Let me make this short and simple. I never said a WORD about my personal life to you or in this thread. When I participate in discussions on dz.com I do so with no association to anyone or anything. I learn from watching, and talking, and listening and asking questions, and trying and failing and more watching. I don't know you personally and unlike you, prefer not to go there. I and others are just responding to the things you put out there that are misleading. I'm not arrogant enough to think I know more than everyone else and certainly not that I know more than pros. You may be right, one of us needs to go talk to Heath. Or Luigi. My guess is this is fun for you. You posted those pics as a gag and are having a laugh as we all take the bait. Good for you. You really got us! Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

I'm so confused. Maybe it's just semantics but you aren't shutting anything down - you're sinking a tiny canopy in. From what I can tell you have little to no forward motion on your landing, you're practically coming straight down. How could you even run it out - there's nothing to run! I saw the 'ball' video, too - some forward momentum but nothing close to horizontal. And no horizontal speed to speak of that would necessitate running anything out. Some have posted that you never mentioned swooping - that speed and distance, etc. aren't your 'thing'. So why compare yourself to Luigi - who is a swooper. He's fast and graceful and can land the shit out of a tiny canopy. How can you say your skill surpasses his when you aren't doing a single thing to compare? In fact, your original post said something about liking #6 because you slid it in without having to take any additional steps. Where was the sliding? Sliding comes from fast, horizontal movement. You could not have possibly have slid anything in the series of photos you posted. I think the reason so many are getting agitated over this thread is because there is clearly a misrepresentation happening. That's dangerous for you and for anyone else who doesn't know better who might be reading this thread. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

Sit fly - flying arms separately of legs...
freeflybella replied to freakydiver's topic in Freeflying
After sitting in on many coached jump debriefs, most people don't realize howmuch they are compensating with their arms. If your hips are too far back (ie,. you're leaning, even slightly forward) you're backsliding - then you're having to push your arms back to counter the movement. It's a pretty unstable habit to get into. Your arms are not free to move around. Be sure to sit up straight and your arms should be in line with your torso (you should be able to see your hands in your peripheral vision). Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi -
P6250702...yummy. Seriously, the video from that pilot's POV is hilarious! People scattered ! Nice shots. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

Video on the net of 418 ft swoop??????
freeflybella replied to BluDvn222's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Yup! Luke, Ian, JC...maybe 1 or 2 more? I think Ian and JC did it right before Shannon's WR run at the same meet - I know a couple did anyway. Sure, the sport has progressed - guys are going faster and longer - that's to be expected. But Shannon whipped out a run that beat the previous WR by 60 feet ! The WCCP starts next week - let's be supportive and give them all the respect they deserve. -

"Nowadays" my frickin' ASS!!! Show me the dude who hits a 5' gate and still pulls off 400+!!! Don't take away from someone -who has worked very hard and accomplished ALOT- by talkin' SMACK! (ps. if you were joking, sorry for the rant, just CAN'T STAND people who trivialize hard work and real success) Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
