Stupidity? Ego? Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

Exactly. You should not smoke marijuana and drive. You should not drink and drive. BUT...alcohol is different. Alcohol can kill you over a period of time, as well as can kill you in one binge. I have never heard of someone ODing on pot. Or cell phones. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

I guess you have to make some determination about the use of the term 'cause'. 'Life' causes death. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

Isn't it like saying cell phones kill people? If you use one while driving, it may distract you or impair your driving - but does the cell phone actually kill? Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

Watching this thread for a long time, too - and just have to contribute: NO FAIR throwing in the firefighter shot!! Unfair advantage!!

Sounds like the day I got my fake I.D. in high school. Edited to add: Funnily enough, my info was from an Iranian friend named Afsaneh Tabassian - and I was about the whitest, blondest person in the place. Mind you, that was 17 years ago... Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

That's why I don't eat red meat and keep white meat to a minimum. Not only the hormones and chemicals but what about adrenaline? Animals locked in closed pens their entire life span live in abject fear most of their lives - doesn't that affect the meat and how could that possibly be good to put into your body? Also, spiritually I find it horrifying. Free-range, uncontaminated naturally fed red meat would be OK by me but how can you trust where to find it? Even if it's labeled as such, how can you tell? Wow, Malaysia. Do you have any freefly coaches at your dz? If not, I would suggest taking a nice vacation to find one.

Someone who has experience with the things described in this post may understand what is being said, but a total beginner could become confused or misinterpret what is being described. We've ALL been there! A person who doesn't undestand how to break off a FF dive without corking will not be able to cartwheel into headdown and backtrack.

First of all - HOLY CRAP, I used to live in Westerville, Ohio. My grandfather lives there. (Sorry, it's just bizarre!)

Right on! While it's fun to watch the (semi-homophobic) transformation from heterosexual to 'metro'sexual, for me, I just want them to fix up my apartment! Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

Yet another head down question...fall rate with arms?
freeflybella replied to WrongWay's topic in Freeflying
Hi! I'll let someone else (hopefully a coach or a very experienced freeflyer) suggest drills for you but I wanted to stress - to you and anyone else reading - that working on head down skills, especially ones with a high potential of corking, should be done solo or with a coach or a very experienced freeflyer. Please consider getting even just a few coached jumps when learning a new orientation or even a new skill - it's worth it on every level. You have a coach who can break down the drill for you, he can evaluate your ability one on one, there's video for you to study and he can get the hell out of your way if something goes wrong. Especially when working on fallrate, you need a base - don't put your buddies at risk by expecting them to be able to dodge a highspeed cork. -
Just completely out of curiosity, where has anyone heard the name Katana? I don't know anyone from PD who will call it anything but XH. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

Yet another head down question...fall rate with arms?
freeflybella replied to WrongWay's topic in Freeflying
I think it's a matter of semantics here. You fly your whole body - including your arms. You just shouldn't have to rely. Headdown students are taught to not get into that habit - usually by trying not to use them for balance and fall rate - it just establishes a better use of the legs and hips and thus more control. I've seen Hookit's mad flying style, he's a good source of info. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi -
Yet another head down question...fall rate with arms?
freeflybella replied to WrongWay's topic in Freeflying
I guess the answer would partly depend on what kind of dive you were doing. Mostly, try more drag to expand your range if you need both wings maxed out to maintain a fallrate. (There is a sweet spot here, though - a point of diminishing return - more drag, more muscle) Also, make sure you really are maxing out your legs before you resort to your arms - sometimes it feels like you're doing the splits when you're not. And as the day goes on and you get fatigued - even less so. If that's the case, try going from legs out to daffy to give those muscles a rest during the dive. (If you're on a big-way, just be sure you can do so without losing balance) As for the burble thing - if you're in a perfect 'X', I guess you'll get a burble that only your feet will extend through. But I think it's pretty hard to actually fly like that. There's usually a bit of daffy or bent knee or arms slightly off-set... (Coincidentally, I was working on fallrate and taking low-docks over the past few weekends) -

I also had a boyfriend (a very experienced jumper) pack me a total. I was borrowing gear and didn't know how to pack (or check) a pull-out. I assumed he did or wouldn't have offered to pack for me. Lesson learned for me: Check your own gear It's ultimately YOUR responsibility. Even those who love you and have your best interests at heart can make mistakes. Question re: posted incident - Is it possible that the packer pulled the pin through the loop by extracting a pullup cord improperly? Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi -

YAY! Let's fly! I'll follow you. I'm not going to be the one to evolve the sport. I'm not that focused, self-promoting or, more importantly, skilled. But I'm going to promote and cheer and appreciate those who lead the way. I'm certainly not going to 'monday morning quarterback' what anyone else does or has done. Be safe and keep an open mind - we'll either discover or be shown wonderful things. I can't wait to find out!

I can't speak for Olav. But I can say that "I" believe that the idea that we're the freaks, and don't like rules etc., is changing. No one likes a ton of rules and regs - but it hasn't gone unnoticed that freefly (and swooping) are just as serious an evolution of skydiving as there ever has been. Change is slow. USPA, military, any organization etc., don't just adopt something new overnight. The fact that they are now taking notice instead of 10 or 20 years down the road may be directly related to the promotion of safety, the structured license system, the Space Games competitions, etc., that Olav and his peers championed. Just my .02

THAT, my friend, is the never-ending question. What about hardcore 4-way that incorporates head down and head up as well as belly flying? Alchemy are doing 'blind' transitions....You don't have to introduce a new flying style - just take it to the next level. Do what hasn't been done. It has been done - before freefly, there was freestyle. AND, before it was done, I bet there was someone who said it couldn't be done. And I'm sure no one thought flying on your head was anything but just plain silly! OK, that takes you out of the running... Seriously, we're talking people in the sky!!! We've only been doing it for 100 years or so - we're babies at this game. We can't possibly have done all there is to do... (Please, please, please post video of you and the mayonnaise jars!)
