Gah! Great.. now I'm back to thinking about one of my greatest quandrys.. I like living here. I respect the Presidency. I dont want to live in a country where I have to be covered from head to toe and cant let the big twins breathe. We finally have a president with enough balls to stand by the decisions he makes. Even the bad ones. Unfortunately, thats most of them... and its getting worse. But I still get a little pissy when the President is blatantly disrespected. When I was a kid, we lived in a foreign country and I was always so proud of the American Flag and what it represented. Thats definitley stuck with me. Jason.. first of all, the world is not divided in to "mad at you" and "not mad at you" sections. There are a lot of people who care about you who are very disappointed in you right now. Hi. I'm going to have to call BS on your learning experience theory. Before you made a move, you knew what the outcome would be. You knew that your actions would both break a serious committment to someone you claimed to love, and cause her a lot of pain that she really didn't deserve. Claiming to be "learning" from this situation is just as selfish as the act was. Quit fooling yourself. If anyone is learning from this experience, she is. She will grow, she will toughen up, and she will love somone again. She'll be fine. I worry about you and your heart a lot more. My hope for you is that your heart is now incapable of doing this to yourself or anyone ever again. You're not alone in this world.. but dont stay out there with all of the evil and the ugly. If you're truly sorry, dont just say it. Be it. And do something about it.

Body position is an unlikely cause of end cell closure. Pack job is a more likely cause. Age/make of the canopy is an even more likely cause. Its not a terribly uncommon thing to have happen. Normally a few quick flares will fix it. Stab the brakes and let them up to get some air in the cells. Just dont collapse the canopy. But you said that flaring didn't clear the end cell closure, so my best guess would be that you were jumping an F111 canopy thats probably close to the end of it's days. But I could be wrong. Try a different student rig on your next jump if possible.

Wow.. what you have there is what we call a "No shit there I was.. " story. Glad you kept your cool and got yourself on the ground safely! Good job! As far as asking us what happened to your canopy...? You might get a lot of speculative feedback. I wouldn't even bother with talking to anyone but the dz's instructors about it. We dont know the gear, dont know how old it is, how it performs normally, how bad or good your body position was... it could have been one thing, or a combination of things. Talk to your instructor about it.
