  12. I fly out of that airport 52F, It's pretty damm busy for a non tower airport. and I'm deaf and don't use the unicom to broadcast my intentions etc. 52F has tall trees at the south end of the airport and when landing on runway 35 as they were on this day, you can't see any aircraft on the runway at south end due to the trees... I was flying there on Mother's Day...and while flying the pattern downwind I saw no aircraft on ground...but when I passed over the trees coming in there was a Piper sitting there on end of runway waiting to take off...flew right over him and landed... I didn't see him till I cleared the trees.... and then a week later this happens.... wind blows other way 90% of the time and landings are usually made on runway 17...instead of runway 35....

  16. Maron Il I think that where the prison is.. as for the MD-80's here's what the inspection covers The airworthiness directive consists of repositioning and applying a protective sleeve over the wiring harness that the goes to the auxiliary hydraulic pump in the right wheel well. This A.D. has been complied with on all of our M.D. 80’s, but during an FAA compliance audit of the ECO (engineering change order) they discovered that some aspects of the modification were not done according to the document. In some cases the string tie in which the protective covering is secured to the wire bundles was tied in increments greater than the one inch noted on the document. In addition a small wire bundle which branches off the main one was routed outside the protective covering. These infractions are in fact minor, and the FAA is making a mountain out of a mole hill. It was discovered this morning that there are two separate procedures to accomplish this task depending upon the type of protective tubing used in the modification. One type of tubing is split and must be wrapped around the bundle, and thus string tied in one inch increments to secure it to the wire bundle. The other type of tubing is continuous, as in a garden hose, it is slid over the wire bundle from the cannon plug disconnect at the hydraulic pump. The tubing is then positioned over the wires covering the length of the bundle in its entirety. Because this method provides a continuous concentric protection the additional string tie is not needed. This procedure does not require the string ties to be spaced in the one inch increments, and it is not known if The FAA understood the distinction between the two. Two of the airplanes in Tulsa that the FAA has deemed incorrect were of the continuous type of tubing, and therefore did not require the string ties to be at the one inch increments that the other procedure utilized. The FAA was referring to photographs taken of the split tube procedure, and it is not known if they realized that there were in fact two different applications. The two airplanes in Tulsa were from the former TWA and required the modification utilizing the continuous tubing not requiring the one inch spacing on the string ties. The ECO was issued as a precaution due to possible abrasion of the pump harness due to the proximity of a hand pump in the area that is utilized to service the hydraulic system. The pump handle could rub against the harness during the back and forth action of the pump handle moving, and thus required the relocation and protection of the bundle by adding the covering. It should also be noted that the hand pump is rarely used to service the hydraulic system. The system is in most cases filled with a device known as a “bowser” that incorporates its own pump and does not require the use of the airplane’s hand pump. now the FAA doesn't like the TWA mods with utilizing the continuous tubing not requiring the one inch spacing on the string ties and wants them tied off every one inch..no reason to cacell all flight they could been done on overnight checks but the FAA got eggs on their faces from Southwest and now FAA looking "TOUGH"
  17. too bad they didn't also mention he was a POW in Vietnam too
  18. I was just teasing on "woman drivers" stuff.. I Haven't had any accidents in long time but I drive like that manic Billy Vance does.... We did have a fun drive to Lake Wales a few years back eh? I still can't believe your VW diesel Passat (is that what it was? Can't remember) could go 700 miles on a full tank, or that it could go 100 mph easy with three skydivers and a trunk and back seat jammed full of gear and baggage! 2005 Jetta TDI 1.9 liter turbo deisel. 14 gallon fuel tank maybe 13.5 useable... yea its great on fuel and yes it will run 110 mph all day long...yea we were packed full! Hey I didn't care if you were driving at 105 mph for 2 ~ 3 hours I figured what they hell Billy's driving it'll be "his ticket" and we still got 41 mpg at that speed...surprised me too..
  19. hey! not all women are that bad.... I got's me a squeeky clean driving record (no tickets or accidents) for the past 8 years since I learned how to drive. (knock on wood) Rule one of the smarter driver... don't assume the other person is going in any direction because of their turn signals. Actually, don't assume anything with anything. As Jimmy Dugan would say, 'just gotta use that lump 3 feet above your ass,' and you'll be OK. I was just teasing on "woman drivers" stuff.. I Haven't had any accidents in long time but I drive like that manic Billy Vance does....
  20. From this description, I still have no idea how you crashed.... clarification? Did you cross over oncoming traffic? woman drivers.... need I say more?
  21. not sure what restriction he has on his ratings... if I wanted to I could get a Insterment rating too.. but I'm happy flying Vfr if weather isn't vFr I stay on ground out fly AA and drink and fly...In First class.. there is another deaf pitot with a insterment rating... I'm deaf and left arm amputee and I hold FAA private pilot and FAA Airframe and Powerplant ratings I'm working on my commerical rating. new technology like GPS data link and H.U. D like highway in sky boxes will make it easier for deaf in future...
  22. maybe she should buy a Tank......
  23. I've heard 2009 in US is just a mini camp for the 2010 record attemps in Europe. (Spain) I don't think they've set a date yet either heard they were looking at June or September 2010 not sure who organizer is, but they better get busy, Airfares are going up, people will need time to save $$ and vacation time set aside to travel to Europe in 2010 plus add in Jumps, hotel fees etc it's not going to be cheap....
