  1. can you post a nude picture of her so we can see what were bidding on?
  2. your rigger could sew it on in 5 minutes. I much prefer the hackey handle over the cheap plastic pipe...
  3. Well I been deaf all my life.... all my brothers Can't Drive without radio on... I can't stand having radio on while driving..virbation drive me nuts.. or those cell phone users talking and driving too..
  4. having been deaf all my life i wouldn't have it any other way.. sometimes when I got my hearing aids on.. I CAN'T STAND all that damn "noise" I enjoy the Peace & Quite..
  5. Hello everybody, I recently lost my right hand in Afghanistan and am recovering at Walter Reed. I am only five weeks out from my injury, so I still have a long way to go. I have not yet started the process of being fitted for a prosthetic. One of my most important goals is to get back in the air. I know I will have to modify my equipment, reduce my wingloading, and retrain my emergency proceedures. I have a few questions that I hope someone on here can answer: Hi Dan I'm Mike Boland and i'm a left BE amputee about 3 inch BE. the more stump you have the easier time you'll have flare the canopy. yes, I agree for NOW reduce your wing loading. later as you get more experiance / skill etc you can increase wing loading. I would suggest 1:1 or less wingloading for now.. 1. I don't want to go to an SOS system, since I fly video. I was thinking about having both the cutaway handle (probably a soft loop) and the reserve handle on the left MLW. Any opinions? I had conventional cutaway on right side and reserve on left side of my rigs and RSL too (on all 3 of my rigs) ) for over 20 years... but after thinking about it over the years...and thinking.. I decided SOS was better set up. All the other arm amputee skydivers that I know of are all jumping SOS set up rigs. You might want to think about that. Why? It seems to be safer set up. When I bought my new Racer I went the SOS route. Glad I did. my Racer SOS is set up so that a 4~5" inch pull only "cutaway" to deploy reserve you have to pull it ALL THE way past12~ 14 inches so you " can "cutaway or you can cutaway and pull" depend on the amount of the pull stroke. You can however have it set up cutaway handle and reserve handle on same side... you'd have to get your rig "custom made" I'm sure Nancy at Jumpshack would be willing to work with you on this. which rig you get SOS or cutaway/reserve is up to you. DO train and train on the rig however. With only one hand you got to be quicker. you can't waste time. 2. What type of prosthetic do arm apmutees, specifically BE, use for jumping? Do I need to make sure to get a specific type, or will I have to have one modified? I had a " general purpose prothethesic limb for years.it was HEAVY / LIMITED on how much you could flare it too. . but after I bought my new firebolt main canopy I needed to be able to flare it lot more than I ever did on my Falcon F-111 mains. the Elipical mains fly so much faster than the F-111's especally on those NO Wind Days. I had a new prothethic arm made just recently. it made from carbon fiber and tititiam very light weight. weigh's almost nothing... I was supposed to go to a follow up visit today, but I rescheduled for next week...part of the deal with the prosthetic limb is how much stump you have left, in my case left BE amputee I got like 3 inches past elbow.. that's it. it like a fulcum in physics books farther away it is more force you can apply.. Al Krueger is right arm amputee but he cut just past wrist... longer stump = more fulcum = more force. I found couple way to "cheat" and working on few new Idea's short line hooked to hook and grab both left toggele and right toggle in right hand and use left arm hook too.. I haven't jump[ed my idea yet.. just finished it and going test jump my new idea this week...opening high to play... / practic / experiment. I'll figure it out soon.. just that my new Firebolt canopy fly's so much better than my old Falcon but I need more "flare" too... on NO WIND days when wind blowing.. I stand up like everyone else.... 3. Any problems keeping the arm on during freefall, opening, or canopy flight? Any special precautions? NO no problems keeping "arm" on in freefall. I have a harness that keep arm on feels like I'm wearing a "bra" I hate that and soon as I land I can't wait to take the "arm" off.. you never see me wear it unless I'm skydiving. I do more things without "arm ' than I do with it. Al Kruger on other hand you never see him with out his hook, and he does EVERYTHING with it. he freaks me out sometimes...he really does do "everything" with it, as for me I use hook only for skydiving. I dislike wearing the hook / arm I just don't like it... I'm a aircraft mechanic for American Airlines on the Boeing 767 at overhaul base. A private pilot, etc and drive a 2 VW's & Ford Truck with manual transmissions. The only problem you'll have with 1 arm is holding your cold beer and girl at the same time... 4. What type of wingloadings are people flying? Keep in mind I have over 1400 jumps, with more than 600 at above a 1.6 wing loading. I would suggest you go to a 1:1 wingloading or lower for now and build your skills up. different canopys require different pull forces. two years ago at WFFC I was demo jumping pilots, firebolts / Icarus etc and I kept coming back to firebolt... why? fly'd great and light toggel pressure. What works for me might not work for you.... I don't know where your BE is i.e 3" BE like me? 6" right @ wrist?? it makes a differance. I would suggest right now you keep the wing loading low .8:1 or no more than 1:1 and try it there.. see how much control you have on toggle how much input you can do... how hard is it to pull on the toogle? can you stall the canopy? and get few jumps in at that before moving up to higher wing loading. I'm sure PD or jumpshack would be glad to give you demo canopy's till you can find what works best... 5. Any other advice specific to rehab or prosthetic training would be appreciated. I made small "loop" about the size of a Nickle right where the lines attch to the steering toggles and soon as I open I put the "hook" through the loop other wise, you'll find your self flaring and soon as you do.. hook came out of toogle instant hook turn. I will gladly respond to PM's, but there seems to be a lack of information here for arm amputees, so I think public posts might be useful. feel free to PM me or email me at Mike@mvboland.com also you might want to contack Chris Lake Advanced Arm Dynamics of Texas 1451 Empire Central Suite 700 Dallas, Texas 75247 Mike Boland Thanks, Dan G
  6. Send her a card asking her out, write a nice but short messahe in card.. send it Fedex..
  7. just call Social security or visit their web site. applie for disability benifits at worse they'll say no..
  8. flaring using both toggles in one hand? I did it years ago. On a strato Clould just to see how I could fly / land it should my prothesis arm every come off (never has) It's hard, wears your streghth out.. not as easy as it sounds....but do able yes. with todays fast flying ZP's I wouldn't recommend it except in emergecy.
  9. Tom what about useing line from foot to attach to toogle with like carbiner to use foot to steer? its a idea i'm toying with to fly my canopy better. going try test jump it this weekend.. I can't fully flare it on hot & zero wind days.. i'm left arm BE amputee and my rig is set up as SOS system too..
  10. I agree the VW clutch is bit funny feel to it It has a soft pedal feel to it took me awhile to get used to it too.
  11. this is from CNN.com Carriers are also outsourcing maintenance overseas and flying planes longer. This has the U.S. Transportation Department worried about safety, according to the latest U.S. government report.
  12. Hey, there is a nice angry statement with no reason to back it up. Might be because he's an A&P. southwest is responable for outsourcing of aircraft maintenance jobs to cheap 3rd party outfits. already United & Northwst are sending their aircraft to China & Koera for overhaul. United had one of their airbus nose gear turn 180 on landing because they forgot to put a bolt in when this aircraft came back from overseas 3rd party repair shop. their aircrafts are coming back with lot of problems too. Jet Blue and American West send their aircraft to El Salador for overhaul. I doubt they can even read english in repair manuals and their happy to make 300 a month, second their not FAAa licensed mechanics and they have no drug background checks or training on these aircrafts. Southwest sends their aircraft to Canada and cheap 3rd party outfit in Arizona. trust me in few years were going see lot maintenance relate crashes due to this stuff. Were hearing about lot work that's been "signed off" as done but later found never have been done..
  13. Also, there's a reason SW is making money now when other carriers are running on a tight margin. SW had foresight to buy their fuel contracts up to 2 years in advance at low prices.... Good on em.... have to give their[SWA] managment credit for good forsight to lock into fuel hedges. don't kno why no one else did.. I been reading in paper for 2 years that fuel prices would go up... etc. guess they had their heads buried in the sand?
  14. Jen.. try the TDI you'll love it. with amount driving you do.. I bet you'll fill it up maybe every 5 weeks or so..
  15. Southwest Airlines is NOT good. they are a cancer on the industry..
  16. I knew that.. turbo need oil to cool it.. I meant if you start it a let it idle on cold mornin winter morning.. like lot of people do.. the TDI will stll be COLD it just does not warm up like gasoline cars do at idle..
  17. I hear you.. Gas prices will be at $3 soon. Then shortly after probably up to $5 in the next 2 years. I considered that. If you can't afford to get to work you are screwed.. I beilive that will happen, we'll have double fuel prices in 2 or 3 years. I once ran out of fuel on a date with my 1979 VW rabbit Diesel. I knew area there were NO diesel stations around to buy fuel, but there was a liquor store across the street. I bought about 45 bucks worth of cheap wiskey...(gallon or so) poured that in tank. opened the injectorswith 17 mm wrench till wishkey came out (got air out lines) closed the injectors and it started right up.. my date kept hoping the VW wouldn't get a DWI.. the diesel will run on anything that burns (hydrocarbons) corn oil, etc biodiesel (made from waste grease) #2 heating fuel Jet A etc. it doesn't care..
  18. Jen Im that link.. it compares the Toyota with the 2005 inline five cylinder gasoline engine (yea 2.5 Liter 5 cylinder) the toyota is a 4 cylinder. the VW TDI diesel is a 1.9 liter 4 cylinder. the 2.5 Liter 5 cylinder gasoline engine makes 170 ft-lbs. @ 3750 rpm / 150 horsepower the 1.9Liter TDI Diesel makes 177 ft-lbs at 1,800 rpm / 100 horsepower. I'll take the little diesel over the bigger gas engine any day! tourque (ft pounds) is what makes the car move...
  19. Mine came with good Michlen tires good for 60,000 miles leather heated seats, power heated mirrors, power windows & locks, power sunroof, A/C Moonsoon radio / amp and 6 CD changer ( WOW like I need that I'm deaf) my 2005 Jetta is A4 body style ( looks same as the 1999 to 2004 Jetta's) the new "redesigned" 2005 Jetta's that came out in March 2005 are A5 body style and they come with power seats and bunch of other nice features not on A4 body styles.
  20. all VW jetta & passat's are 4 doors, Rhino & my Jetta TDI are diesels TDI = Turbo Direct Injection if Jetta or Passat doesn't say "TDI" on back trunk lid its NOT a diesel
  21. I know.. I know I drive mine all day long at 75~80 mph.. sometimes faster on highway, that little 1.9L 4 cylinder turbo diesel feels like a big reving V-6 and I consently get 41 mpg and I drive it hard. Jen if you buy a TDI besure to get the cold weather package (heated seats) as the TDI's do NOT warm up by letting them Idle in cold winter you have to drive them right off.. but they'll start putting out heat with in 3 miles... till then those heated seats are great. scheduled oil changes every 10,000 miles. (exept the 1st two which are 5000 miles each) fuel filter every 20,000 miles. (easy to replace) it never needs a tune up. engine will last 400,000 miles easy.. in fact it takes around 60,000 to 80,000 miles for the piston rings to just break in (compression gets tighter / higher) I prefer the TDI 5 speed get better fuel mileage than the automatics. you need to use oil that meets VW 505.01 standard for the very high pressure fuel injectors, and thats not easy to find except at VW dealer and few other places, so carry and extra qt or two with you. the torque on the Jetta TDI is 177 foot pounds at 1,800 rpm and 287 foot pounds in the Passat. It'll really make these little cars move quick! down side with fuel prices high... dealers are asking top dollar now. I see Used Jetta TDI on ebay with 80,000 miles or more going for 15,000!! ( I only paid 19K for my 2005 10 months ago)

yes Mar, I learned my lesson last year. NO MORE FUCKING WHUFFO's ...this girl that I made the offer to today, wasn't a Whuffo.. she was a skygodness ok.. sky chick, skygirl.. she posted something funny on DZ.com..It made me laugh so I took a gamble..offered her tickets even though it'd cost me $$ but she has plans...I wasn't looking for a date or anything althought I make a great blind date ~ ONE arm / Deaf.. I just though I'd offer it to her and see what she'd say. I didn't think that the whuffo would take me up on it last year, but she did, but thought I'd have better luck with a sky girl..but I didn't.. go figure... I guess she had to refuse as she didn't know me ?? your a interpiter for deaf Mar you know how deaf even deaf whuffo's trust each other deaf's persons.. so.. Oh well had fun making the offer...had me wondering if she'd accept or decline...bet she though I was some dizzy dot com nut case? She declined my offer, but I thanked her any way...maybe i'll meet her at ?? this year?
