Just thought I'd share a bit of a info I got from Todd at Apex the other day. I did a skydive on a new Flick and thought the brake settings needed to be deeper. Todd said the brake settings are calculated for the canopy size, NOT the jumper. He said if I adjusted my brakes any more than an inch I would be losing way too much vertical speed on opening, even though the canopy wouldn't be flying forward very much. He also said that there are manufacurers out there that disagree... How much does this pertain exactly to this discussion? I don't know, but food for thought. Ginny

I just can't help this, but... quote Nick, You fucked up dude, everyone does, just fucking admit it, I did not see any apologies on your part, I really thought you were much better than that. end quote Pot, kettle, black...

can someone settle this for once and for all: do links screw down, towards the container or up?

Can anyone PM me Jerry's (Magot) number? Ginny

Who the hell do people think they are, no f*king respect. I hate it when a few mess up a good thing. PM'd you.

When you spend a lot of time explaining base to your family and friends, that you aren't a "thrill-seeker" and don't have a death wish, it's frustrating to have that negated on T.V. Just wait till your mom calls you and says what she saw on the news...

Most anonymous posters don't do it out of some fear that another poster will get them fired. They do it because they wish to be annoying. It is the maturity level of 9yo kids who do prank calls. Generally, their opinions are valueless, sometimes worse. It is just an opportunity to vent some anger. "Look, I said something that I could never say in person ______________________________________________________________ and how do you know this?

I hope this isn't a re-post, but didn't find a reference to the idea. I have a serious injury and all of the good informaiton I have now, including my current physician, was obtained through skydivers and base jumpers who are also injured. I have also recieved calls numerous times from people seeking advice, references etc., so I know we are a good medical database. I also know many people on this forum are involved in cutting edge medicine and treatments, so why not a forum. I guess a plausible reason is that you could just post in bonfire, but I bet it would be a successful sub-forum. I would sure check, and post, regularly. Thoughts anyone? Ginny

I saw a bottle of "liquid deer fence" at the garden shop today. Never tried it, but it claims to "really" work. I havn't tried it yet , so if you do let us know how it goes. Ginny

Actually I think people out there would really be surprised at how many "lifers" there are. I've been fortunate enough to meet people with regular jobs, families, mortgages etc.. who use just enough get high but limit it to keep it together. You would NEVER know what they are up to. Just wanted to put this out there for folks who think all meth heads have sores and are malnourished, hit rock bottom and live on the streets Ginny.

[Go with someone who knows the site and who you know you can trust, and that's that. ] Definitely not sage advice there... As a rare poster on these forums, I must chime in here. Everyone has their own opinions and experiences, and all of us know people who "have done" many things, and that does not make it correct or smart. This post is in response to the original question about LB for beginners, I'll leave the ITTW to others more experienced there. There have been some good posts about the potential dangers of this jewel. These forums are read by many non basers and aspiring basers, to imply that LB is a fine place to learn is doing a great disservice to the CH community, as well as all those that enjoy the legal jumps in the valley. Do you need hundreds of jumps to be safe there? No. What you do need is some solid base training and the confidence that you can perform a sub-terminal track with the correct delay for the exit point. Sure you can start with some slider down, but this will do little to prepare you for the next one with a slider, except to show you what it looks like over the edge and maybe calm the jitters a bit. This is not just advice to keep the area open, it's going to help you avoid the helicopter rides and possibly a guest appearance on Nick's list. I certainly hope this is not too much "drama" for you. People getting into the sport of base jumping don't need to be stroked and told everything will be fine. They should fully understand all the potential dangers involved and feel confident that they are personally ready to accept these risks, regardless how much experience the guy/gal standing next to them has. Is trusting a mentor like clicking ruby slippers together? Robi was right, be mature. There's much to this maturity thing. Hey Jaap, you asked for opinions, short answer, don't start in CH. Have a great trip. Rob

***LB is ok to do your first jumps (did my very first jumps there), but I stronly suggest to do slider-down jumps first (there are some exits suitable for this). This is to train your eyes (often this point doesn't get trained enough) and to get used to the landing. I don't agree. In LB you HAVE to subterminal track, that is the critical skill. I've seen a lot of beginners there and it just scares me... odds are if you don't get hurt it will be luck. And skydiving tracking just isn't the same as a subterminal track. Don't you have any big A to practice off? Ginny

*** I've flown domestic and just worn my rig like a backpack. Out of the stash bag on my back with the legstraps hanging. KMonster and I flew from Seattle to Sacramento and both wore our rigs. Our helmets were in our hands. The TSB guy asked, "Are those parachutes?" We answered, "Yes" He just nodded and let us through. __________________________________________________ I've heard some base jumpers and skydivers say they do this and I never understand why. To draw attention to yourself and your rig, especially if it could delay getting on the plane, seems like you're just asking someone to wonder about it. A stash bag easily remedies this and even better, a lightweight backpack to just zip over the stash bag. Ginny

I'm glad you posted this here on DZ.com because I can't remember my email address and havn't checked my inbox (for the personal invite) for a while. Since we live well beyond 500 miles outside of Colorado we may have to make a flight reservation to join the festivities. Can't wait to check out somone else's boobs and see all the legally jumped footage in C2. Ginny

Like I said, CONTINUUM 2!!! Ginny
-
There is some great footage of guys tracking in CONTINUUM 2. I've seen Rob K., Per, and Martin cross the road and then make it half-way to the river (NOT low pulls) in smoke pants, much farther than a lot of guys I've seen in Classics. Ginny

It sure would suck to be famous for this Actually, Dan is famous for many, many things, this is around the bottom of the list. The shit you just dredged up is almost as bad as anything I've seen on this board. I am not impying you did it on purpose, as you obviously know nothing about some of the reasons this just sucks. Not just for Dan. Seriously 570, it would be very cool of you to just remove the post. Thanks.

Hey IndianaStyle, put that damn GPS away! Ha ha. One day you're going to be looking down at that thing and walk right off the exit point with your stash bag on. When I saw you put that hike-slowing-down-device in your video, I laughed so hard I left a micro in my shorts. Brought back memories man.

Hey sistah...you maybe took an xtra pain pill tonight?...I was saying Miles is a good guy--I would never compare someone I actually LIKE to FELIX!! Where did you get that?? ____________________________________________ Sorry, I wasn't really replying to you, just to this whole witch-hunt thread. I don't really know how to post correctly (please don't teach me). Ginny

All right, lets talk about teaching people to jump with little to no skydiving experience. ______________________________________________ I may be crass, but I really don't care if you choose to learn to base jump with or without skydiving, that is a personal choice. Pretty much the only statistic you can count on is that eventually you will get hurt (or die) no matter how much experience you have in either sport. Ginny

Hey Treejumps (mark Kissner) KILL YOURSELF ______________________________________________ Jt, no f%ing class at all.

youi said: In this thread i can see that there are a few close friends defending Miles at all cost, and everybody else biting him hard. This brings an obvious observation _______________________________________________ Who is everyone else? This forum? Does this forum really represent the base jumping world? I'm sure a lot of Miles' base jumping friends don't bother with this forum.

Good Grief! Miles taught me how to pack inflight in an Albatross airplae (thanks man). He is a wealth of information and has probably helped countless for than me in this sport. Also, in the often lame-ass world of skydiving and base jumping he is a welcome sight for more reasons than I can count right now. I have never seen, or heard from someone who actually saw for themselves, Miles jumping unethically. Jeez, no offense, but if you're comparing Miles to Felix you obviously don't know him and havn't jumped with him. Ginny
