    I didn't mean for this to turn into a Cypress debate. But Brian, a main, reserve entangelment is a very real possiblity as a result of a properly set and maintaned Cypress/Vigil/Argus, what ever AAD you may be using. We have also seen recently that an AAD can be set off on final approach on highly loaded canopies. It has cost one jumper his life. Dom

    AS most of us didn't until TheMitchyone went in. To see some of the biggest names in skydiving running around reading their Cypress manuals and learning about it after they had used them for 12 years. It was crazy. Dom

    Brain simple fact. Your AAD is a computer. It can break, it can malfunction. It can also be effected by the operator. It can be set wrong. It is not fool proof. Ever see a persons Cypress fire about 30 ft before they hit the ground? Well I have. Truth...... I didn't see it. The trees got in the way as she fell behind them. Ever see a cypress miss fire? Ever see one fire just as an idiot deployed there main to low and the main and reserve entangle? Dom

    You got part of my post. It is easy to think of yourself and dying. We all know that. Part of the point I am trying to make is that you will lose someone you know and may even truley care for them. Can you handle that part of it? The pm's I got referred to losing others and the pain these people are feeling and the fact that they had never thought about the fact that they could lose friends in this sport. Dom

    Jean brings up a good point. Staying current.....not doing so can kill ya as well. If you go uncurrent or only jump a few times a month, or every few months.......be extra careful. Dom

    You are the type of jumper I wanted to reach with this post. I am glad you are thinking about now. I am glad you love the sport and understand what it means. This sport is about life and love, it really is. We love life and try to live it like it is a gift not a right. Make the decision that is right for you. I am just tired of people glossing over the hard facts about this sport that takes over our lives in so many ways. Dom

    It had not gotten any easier at all Lisa. I have lost over 15 friends in my time in this sport. Each one effected me in a different way. I cried last night, when I found out about all of these people. I cared for each one of them. It never gets easier. That would mean we don't have feelings. I am sad they are gone. I am sad I will never get to talk to them again (at least not in this life). But I knew they could go and I excepted that risk from the 1st time I ever stepped on a DZ. I am not talking about the risk of me dying. I am talking about the risk of losing someone I know in this sport. I wont blame the sport or be shocked that it happens is all. I have opened myslef up to that pain. Are you ready to do the same? That is the question. SOme people can handle that fact others can't and by not realizing that fact they are in a for a rude awakening. Dom

    YOu have accepted the risks... you understand... that is all this thread was ment to do. Good for you. I am just tired of seeing people "surprised" that these things happen. I am doing my part to open eyes to the fact and like I said if it causes 10 people of 100 to quit today, then maybe I saved them from pain later on that they are not able or willing to accept. Dom

    Stats don't help in this situation. I am not talking about how many of us die or get injured. I am talking about the fact that this is a small community and the 7 degrees of seperation rule is in effect. Hell I bet it takes less then 7 degrees of seperation in this sport. You will know someone, you will see someone. It will happen. Dom
