  1. I wouldn't hit you. Mainly because I know you'd like it.
  2. Nah. The other forums are places to attempt to be funny on a skydiving related theme. Bonfire is a place to attempt to be funny on non-skydiving related themes.
  3. The ideal leg position for a tandem passenger in freefall - legs bent with feet on or nearly on the instructors butt - is not the ideal body position for an AFF student. In that body position, the student will be sliding backwards if they had a rig on their back instead of a tandem instructor; it can also create spin issues at Cat C (release jumps). It is very common for people who have done one or more tandems to revert to this body position on AFF jumps, and it can be tough to change that "muscle memory". Besides the body position in freefall, there is also the landing position. On a tandem, the instructors feet land first; the passenger pulls their feet up in front of them, ideally until just after the instructors feet have made contact with the earth. Do that under a solo canopy and it's quite possible that you will land on your tailbone. This can be painful - broken tailbones and spinal injuries are not uncommon when people try to land even big slow student canopies in that body position.
  4. Flite Suit makes RW separates - you can get pants (with or without booties) and/or a jacket; both pieces have RW grippers.
  5. I know the feeling. Welcome home!
  6. That was taken along Moonstone Beach Drive in Cambria. Used to spend lots of time there as a kid. These are from this morning. First one is beach in San Simeon, second is the view I used to stare at while taking money from tourists (just change the dirt in the foreground to asphalt).
  7. I could find a reason to complain about nothin'. Trust me.
  8. Here's what I saw on my scenic drive today. No complaints here.
  9. You should buy whichever container you like the best that also fits in your budget and level of patience for delivery of your new toy. You'll be happy with any harness/container system on the market that is built to fit the canopies you intend to fly and to fit your body measurements. That said, it's a known fact that every skydiver should buy an Infinity.
  10. 1:1:1 One AFF FJC taught. One CRW jump with my man. One case owed for first CRW jump with my man (and first CRW jump since about 1993).
  11. A light went out that day. The bits of it that we all carry with us are but a pale reminder of how bright that light was. I will always miss you, Shannon.
  12. And this is a prime example of the kind of NOISE that shouldn't be in a TOPICAL forum. Be "funny" in the bonfire. Topical forums are not the place for it.
  13. Assuming he was charged for the work in the first place. It only takes 5 minutes or so to swap mains on risers, not even worth charging someone for. Makes total sense to me that a rigger wouldn't swap the risers, especially if they were asked to do it in the middle of a jumping day - it's not uncommon for jumpers to want to trade mains temporarily. If the jumpers didn't tell the rigger exactly what they wanted done, that doesn't make the rigger wrong. Guilty of not communicating well, perhaps, but not wrong.
  14. +1 It'd be nice to be able to read the topical forums without the constant off topic, nonsensical and personal attack based noise provided under the guise of humor by a few people...
  15. You're a good man, Don. (note to self - remember to delete this post before you can't)
  16. That was a fucking amazing game. Well worth the price of admission, even if the refs did suck ass (expected no less of them). It could have gone either way; happily for Sharks fans, Nabby was ON tonight. Live playoff hockey is so fricking cool!! The noise level in the Tank was unreal, and the noise and excitement level on the walk through downtown San Jose after the game was pretty crazy too! Oh, and Don? I love you, man, and I know you're going to love sporting that new avatar.
  17. Under six hours 'til I'm watching the preskate from the fifth row. Looking forward to seeing some Redwing faces slammed into the glass right fucking in front of me tonight! On another note, WTF is up with playoff ticket prices? $50 more per seat than regular season, for the same seats? Does that include Vaseline? Go Sharks!
  18. About 48 hours in the hospital total, including prepping and the surgery. The sciatica pain (in ass and down leg, pre-surgery) was gone when I woke up; although it's returned over the past couple years it's nowhere near what it used to be. The muscle pain in my back (which I didn't have pre-surgery) was brutal for about a week, then it got rapidly better. That has never completely gone away, but I also haven't been really good about stretching. Until recently I'd only have one or two bad days every couple of months though. I have a friend who recently had a fusion in his C spine. He was back to jumping and working (as a firefighter) after six months. Another friend had a similar experience.
  19. I wish! Drew is awesome, I'd love to meet him sometime.
  20. I had L4/L5/S1 fused in January of 2001. Overall I've had good results. Was back to work full time (desk job) within 5 months. I did one jump at six months post-fusion and realized it was too soon; started again at one year and did 200+ jumps the following 12 months. There has always been some pain since the surgery, and it's getting a bit worse as time goes on, but it's nothing like before surgery. It was worth it for me.
  21. Yeah, the Sharks got an epic schooling tonight. On a good note though, this means I get to go to a playoff hockey game - we have tickets for game 5 on Saturday.
  22. Suggestion - instead of going south down the valley, go a bit further east from Sacramento to either Auburn or Placerville and go south on highway 49. It runs through the foothills, which tend to be a bit cooler than the valley floor and it's definitely more scenic. Plus it runs right through gold country and right past Yosemite. It is a one lane in each direction highway though; adjust drive time accordingly. Sometimes. And sometimes they go for days without seeing the sun. Bring sweatshirts.
  23. The mantra of a Sharks fan. It's true though. These are the Redwings, playing the kings of choke. If any team could pull it off... Regardless, tonight's game is going to be epic. Can't imagine either team not showing up for this one!
  24. Mid-September would be better. Less likely to be 100+ in the valley and more likely to not be foggy on the coast.
