I'm walking the Oregon section of the trail that Amazon recommended with flyangel2. We're starting June 20th, ending July 24th. If anybody cares, I've started a trail journal here; There's a few prep entries up now, will be a few more before we go, and I will be trying to update it at each resupply when we're on the trail (approx once a week). Good luck on your AT hike! That one's on my life list, too; wish I could join you.

I like my Viao lappie. I liked my Dell lappie too. I wish I'd had the "oops" accidental coverage when it drowned. YMMV, of course.

Buy blank hats and take them to an embroidery shop?

I could have happily rode the plane down on each of my first 50 jumps. I still get scared when it's bumpy under canopy, or when I haven't jumped for awhile, or when I'm doing something new. At 21 jumps. if you aren't at least a little bit scared at least some of the time we'd be worried about you.

Cocktails.

Two from last weekend at SkyDance.

Davis misses you too. But it's really not the same now that Jim has a whuffo girlfriend...

There is a high risk that your container would get damaged. You'd be smart to follow their recommendation to not put a 190 in an I5.

I'd grab my backpack and disappear into a nearby wilderness. Sure wish I could go right now...

That dropzone.com is a stupid place to ask a question that you want a serious answer to. Even (or should I say especially?) if you post it in the "topical" forums where you're supposed to be able to get a serious answer to a skydiving related question.
-
Amazingly enough, it did. Was already outside the terminal waiting for my ride home when the plane was supposed to be arriving.

I know this is going to come off like I'm truly living up to my screen name, but oh well. I have a brilliant idea right now. Don't give advice in the topical forums if you don't know what you are talking about. If you go ahead and give advice when you don't know what you are talking about, don't get all pissy when someone who does know what you are talking about calls bullshit on you.

Why I jumped a whole Season with a BASE rig from 13K ft...
skybytch replied to badlock's topic in Gear and Rigging
Recently a rig came in to a rigger friend of mine. The reserve had a service bulletin out on it that had not been completed. The SB was 7 years old. The reserve had been repacked at least 8 times by 5 different riggers since the SB came out. Two of those packjobs were by people whose names lots of skydivers would recognize. I'm pretty sure that the packjob on my reserve is gonna open, but if my rigger made a mistake and I die because of it... oh well. I knew and accepted the risks when I got on the airplane. -
I'm drinking a Corona and playing Runescape. I'm cooler than you are.

We weren't flying American. We shouldn't have had an issue. But no.... Went to check in at 3 pm yesterday for a 4:10 pm flight on US Air. Plane was an hour late, we were gonna miss our connection, and the only other plane going to from PHX to Flagstaff was sold out. So we landed in PHX and rented a car. Instead of arriving at the motel at about 8:30 pm, we got here at midnight. I felt really bad for some of the other people on the plane. One lady was trying to get back to Dallas and was told that she wasn't going to get there until Saturday evening. Another lady was trying to get to a wedding (that she was in) and was told that they could get here there an hour after the wedding starts. I'm wondering now if I'm gonna get home tomorrow evening or not...

Then: Thirty five year old skydiving equipment salesperson on disability while recovering from a spinal fusion. Had one particular guy that I'd have sex with on a semi-regular basis. On lots of drugs. Idea of a good time was two minutes without pain. Lived near Perris on a half acre with my teenage son, two dogs, three sheep and a horse. Thought about nothing other than getting my life back. Had big dreams. Now: Forty two year old full time college student. Happily taken. Idea of a good time is walking miles into the woods and setting up a tent or enjoying a cold beverage from a non-descript red cup. Live in northern California and love it. Love to travel. Barely staying current. Has a really big dream.

Was it jumped?

Hm. In my 10 years of selling gear, not once did a customer send fabric for a container. Fabric used on a container must come with a certificate from the manufacturer that states it meets certain requirements (think mil-spec). Then the container manufacturer has to inspect the fabric to be SURE it meets those requirements. So I guess if you wanted to make the effort to find fabric that comes with a certificate, and it was then inspected and accepted by the manufacturer you could do that. Dunno why anybody would want to when it's so much easier to pick from the stuff the manufacturer has in stock though. One thing that I can guarantee you can't do is have your local rigger sew pieces together and then send it to the manufacturer to be put on a container.

There's a complete basic canopy control course outline in the SIM. There's nothing there that would stop anybody who thinks they have the knowledge and skill to pass the information on from taking that outline and putting on a course locally. It's been there for a couple years now... With all the hot, broke canopy pilots out there you'd think basic canopy control courses would be available everywhere...

I hope I'm making the right decision
skybytch replied to ladyhawke's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think that downsizing to make packing easier when you aren't confident that you can land the smaller canopy in no wind (much less downwind) is a really bad idea. -
Me too. I think I'm gonna go read all of clintonradloff's threads now.

Nothing. Same old shit with different screennames attached to it. No.

Befriend them, yeah. But until they have an A license, don't jump with them if you don't have a D license and the blessing of the S&TA. A DZO has every right to get pissed off if someone who doesn't have the credentials is jumping with someone who is technically still a student; money has nothing to do with it. You can give back plenty jumping with someone who just got their license. And those jumps can be excellent preparation for someone who thinks they might want to be an instructor someday.

Yeah, that'll work.
