  1. Ironically enough, the proposed new Floridian law will make their self defence laws more like those found in Britain, not less. The only difference is the prevalence of firearms in the two countries... something which the proposed law has no direct effect on. It's a slightly odd logic if you ask me.
  2. Any good DZ's near there? What's the local international airport?
  3. 1) Has he a lawyer? This is something he needs to address with them. 2) If he hasn't he needs to get one. Then revert back to point 1). Given the time scale, he should start making phone calls now.
  4. Longest duration: normal freefall - roughly 60 wingsuit - not sure personally. into several minutes I think. A wingsuiter could help you out. specific name for gliding: With a special suit it's a wingsuit dive. The suit is a "wingsuit". the jumpers might be referred to as "birdmen". It's possible "birdman" is TM?? Same kind of maneuver is possible without a wingsuit - it's called Tracking. You can do it naked if you like or whatever you normally wear. There are also trousers with vents in them which increase your tracking speed. You won't go for nearly as far/fast (horizontally) /slow (vertically) /long (duration) as someone in a wingsuit though. BASE times Don't know - check with a BASE jumper. Longest times will be for BASE jumpers wearing wingsuits. Air currents: What air currents? What do you mean by this? Do you mean winds at different altitudes? That's kind of covered above - the winds can effect where we land. Do you mean on a BASE jump, winds at exit? Yes it matters to BASE jumpers - if the winds are too strong or on the wrong direction it can be too dangerous. Do you mean in freefall? Doesn't matter at all. We are not (noticeably) effected by wind in freefall (save for the fact that it might alter where we are in the sky when we open our parachutes). We're not going to be made unstable by a gust or anything though. Jumping with a suit: What suit? A business suit? Maybe. People have jumped in suits although there is a very real potential to have it cause you to spin you if you didn't take precautions. Do you mean a skydiving suit. Probably not - that's kinda the point of them. Do you mean a wingsuit? As covered above, yes probably. They're a more dangerous form of skydiving requiring specialist training and experience in more "normal" forms of skydiving before you even think about jumping one. That said - if you just jumped out of a plain without a couple of hours training you'd probably go unstable and spin anyway no mater what you were wearing. It would be about body position and technique and you wouldn't have any yet. opening a parachute at height? They can open harder, although this can be mitigated by opening shortly after jumping out of the plane (thus ensuring your not moving very fast) or with rigging apparatus such as a drogue chute. other than that it simply means a long ride. Why do I say you’re asking the wrong questions? Because very little of the above could actually be translated into a decent computer game. Not only that but none of it sounds like you have the first idea about skydiving (not a bad thing you understand – we expect that – you’ve never jumped) but having absolutely no knowledge about a thing you’re trying to develop a game for sounds sketchy to me. Your questions are like asking a driver if moving the stick in the middle of the car back and forth makes it go faster because you’re thinking of making a game about moving the stick back and forth. It’s wrong, would suck and shows you don’t know about driving. If you want some really good input - let us know what you think the good gameplay will be. We'll be able to come up with some pretty good ideas for you on how to make it fun. Remember, we've played pretty much every single skydiving game ever made. They've all sucked arse (from a consumer and gameplay point of view, not just technically). It's a sad truth that the BEST skydiving game ever created is all about stealing cars. I’m sure if you want we could come up with some ways of making skydiving a cool and enjoyable computer game for you. We know skydiving and which bits of it would translate well. We also know which bits would translate badly. It sounds like you’re thinking of wingsuit jumps in a arcade style game. That could work out. Wingsuit jumps could believably last 5 minutes – that’s a good length for an arcade level. There’s plenty of ways to develop that into a game.
  5. I don't mate, seriously. Just trying to help out. I honestly feel the best and most helpful advice to give was that in my first post. If you want more, I'll see if what I can do. (hell it's a slow friday avo. I've doubled my quotas for the month and my secretary's nice and busy ) ps: Where abouts are you in the world? From your post times I'm guessing probably not the US?
  6. Talk to your tandem instructor about your fears. I'm sure you'll be able to find someone who can exit with you in a way that you are unlikely to find yourself upside down. There are rarely any guarantees... but I wouldn't be surprised if there was an instructor who would feel confident he could keep you head up at all times. Take a look at some tandem videos. Not all of them involve the tandem pair going upside down - simply find an instructor who is confident he can achieve an exit like that.
  7. If you don't know enough about the subject to ask the right questions (and trust me, those questions are not even close to being "right") then you sure don't know enough to make a game that doesn't suck royally. Do as Tonto says: either bring someone in on the project or at least go get some formal training. You're not going to get the depth of knowledge you’ll need from an internet forum.
  8. hehe, I can't believe there are people on this board who think the world will never run short on oil. It's a finite resource. We can't *make* oil. It takes millions of years. If we keep using it; it will run out some day. That day may not be for centuries. Some say it may happen much sooner. But it will happen, one day. Unless we stop using oil. Here's an easy scenario: Hannibal gives B.A. a glass of milk. B.A. likes milk so he drinks from the glass. Face pours more milk into the glass. B.A. can keep drinking. Face stops pouring more milk into the glass and goes off with a girl. B.A. runs out of milk and calls Murdock a "crazy fool". Thus we learn that if we want to prevent B.A. from getting angry, we have to stop him drinking milk. We can't get face to pour more milk into the glass – he's off with a girl and won't be back for a while. Maybe if we get Murdock to slip something into B.A.'s milk that would slow down his consumption?

  10. I expected the attachement there to be a grab from Cheech and Chong's up in smoke movie. And damnit GTA, you got there first.
  11. You quote: "Minnesota will from Thursday demand that all diesel fuel sold in the US" What is actually written is: "Minnesota will from Thursday demand that all diesel fuel sold in the US state" That last word is quite important. It changes the whole law from some rediculous and illegal farce into something which could actually be legally binding. Anyway, irrespective of whether or not the law can work or will turn out to be inneffective, it's still a very real example of a state government attempting to force the use of alternative energy sources... kinda the opposite of what you were trying to get at with your point number two above.
  12. This is an example of the govt. forcing use of an alternative energy source by passing a law requiring diesel to contain bio-oil.
  13. Kallend's the professor - I'm a "learned friend".
  14. because it takes 800ft from terminal... if you're going 90mph horizontally (ie just go out of a plane) when you deploy you're going to be open in much much less than 800ft.
  15. hmm... yes, retarded people not comprehending what's going on. Funny when that happens isn't it. I note that the US (as a political body) doesn't accept that humans have any effect on the climate. I post that I think it’s funny that the US is pretty much out on a limb with that idea. I happen to post that thought shortly after Gravitymaster and in my post note that I'm talking about WHAT AMERICA THINKS NOT WHAT GRAVITYMASTER THINKS. Perhaps I should use shorter words so the kids at the back of the class don't get left behind.
  16. Does it matter? It doesn't change whether or not humans are affecting the temperature does it.
  17. It always amuses me that pretty much the only country in the entire first world that does not accept that human activity is having a negative effect on our climate is.... America. It's kinda like the retarded kid sat at the back of the class that just doesn't get how to take away in maths class. Sad really though.
  18. sure... but... that's not actually that funny.
  19. I jumped my FF2 with my RSL attached. The lens of my camera didn't extend beyond the edge of the camera box so there was no snag point there. I have no sight. Overall my FF2 with DV camera set up was LESS of a snag risk than the full face helmet I used to wear. Detaching my RSL because I was changing to a helmet with less of a snag risk than I had been jumping seemed retarded - so I didn't do it. I now have a stills mount on top. I leave my RSL disconnected on all jumps. My FF2 with empty stills mount does pose a very slight snag risk. My FF2 with stills mounted on it poses a large snag risk. I chose to disconnect the RSL for all jumps so I wouldn't have to mess with it between jumps with and without stills camera. This was my thinking based on my set up. You should form your own opinion based on your set up. Don't forget your lens is a potential snag point - unless it's inside that box you can get at it.
  20. Rip/smash/tear/or otherwise remove that goggle keeper from the back of the helmet though or you could find it one day acting as a line-from-your-now-malfunctioning-main keeper. Other than that I think it's probably ideal.
  21. I feel it's the best side mount helmet money can buy. Simple as that.
  22. That makes for some um... interesting viewing. The flash movie on your link kicks off by saying: "The very first descriptions - before the mind control machine had time to go into action - descirbed 'something like a missile' or a craft much smaller than a 757" (emphasis mine) Now... if conspiracey nuts actually stuck to describing the odd things about these incidents they might actually get some credence... but when they start off by claiming there are mind control machines zapping people so they don't tell the truth... sheesh... I just can't help but not give a damn what they're saying.

  24. Oh yeah boogies - I forgot boogies. Boogies are the party/meet of the skydiving world. Some are huge and have people come from all over the world to them, just as I dunno - fencing meets might attract fencers from US, UK, Oz France etc. Same fencing, same white suits... but it's still a party and a great get-together in a different place.
  25. I live in the UK. I've travel to the states to jump because of the favourable exchange rate and just to meet new people. I've traveled to Russia to jump because it's exceptionally cheap and they have some cool jump ships to experiance. These would fall under ecconomic reasons - ie it's cheaper to travel and do 100 jumps than it is to stay at home and do 100 jumps, even if you take into account travel expenses. I travel all round the UK to meat people, jump with friends and to enter friendly competitions. I travel to some DZ's specifically for the scenery - eg I went to a DZ on a cliff overlooking the sea earlier this year - they have amazing views. I went there specifically for those views. Some DZ's offer services others can't provide. EG over Arizona you're able to organise jumps with objects which you can't jump with over residential areas. Until last month, if I wanted to fly in a wind tunnel I pretty much had to go to the States - I would go to a DZ close to a wind tunnel. You ever traveled somewhere for a holiday? I have - I took my rig. Sometimes then it's just a holiday... I just happen to be skydiving on it just like you might just happen to go to the beach while on holiday. Everyone has their reasons... gravity is rarely one of them.
