  1. ...who's early days on this forum were similarly taken up trolling with highly inflammatory views and exaggerated comments intended to get a rise.
  2. Put it this way: In this thread Artist, in his own particular idiom, is passing criticism on those who instantly say that this sort of thing is due to racial minorities migrating into the country. By aping in an exaggerated manner those who would instantly adopt this tack, he is poking fun at them and indicating his distain for their opinion whilst simultaneously having a laugh at their expense. Ie... he's on your side. Course he doesn't want to admit that as to do so would spoil his fun... so beware for an instant rebuttal of my analysis. You're right about the fact that it is the people who agree with him who are sad. Hence my joke comment above about how one's perspectives are truely put into perspective when you find yourself agreeing with someone who posts under the guise of a nut-job. Whether or not the poster who was the subject of my comment himself realised what Artist was doing and was therefore also joking however, I can only guess.
  3. You must remember that every thing he posts on here, and I do mean EVERYTHING, is designed to take the piss out of anyone who takes him or his posts seriously enough to actually respond to them.
  4. That film has one of THE funniest scenes in any film ever committed to celluloid. You all know the bit I mean – the extraction of the VC officer. Absofuckinglutely fantastic.
  5. God-damnit people this wasn't a joke - the guy was fucking bipolar. That may not affect whether or not the air marshal as right to shoot but it certainly affects how much we can hold the deceased at fault for his own actions. Blame him for not taking his meds maybe, but quit trying to put this whole thing down to a dumbass making a crap joke.
  6. I might wish my girlfriend was a Russian spy but I'm far from being convinced that she is...
  7. Joking aside... couple of years back we had some guy come along to our club to do his first jump. Anyone who talked to him would realize he was obviously just a little bit odd... for instance, he genuinely was absolutely convinced my girlfriend was a Russian spy. He told us how he'd been practicing for his first skydive by jumping off a brick. He then moved up to jumping off his bed and then his couch. Obviously, he explained, he wouldn't have just started jumping off his couch straight away - that would have been far too dangerous. We put him through a static line course with a very experienced instructor... who failed him at the end of the course and made him do a tandem instead. Just too odd to do a static line jump. Strange guy... anyway the point is - I think you're being highly remiss by advising this guy to jump an e-bay rig off his couch. That's obviously far too dangerous - he needs to work up to his couch via a brick and then his bed!
  8. I saw a program on descovery wings only a week or so ago where John Nichol (if you rememver he was the tornado pilot shot down during GW1) went there and flew in the SA Buccaneer. Great aircraft.
  9. yeah but only for a day or too... and only because they managed to snap the in flight fueling probe
  10. And in 1982 we flew a series of missions where Vulcan's flew non-stop to the Falklands and back to bomb the Argies - a round trip of nearly 8,000 miles.
  11. For most intents and purposes they're almost identical but the PC105 is newer and has a couple of extra features, eg it's got a pop up flash but it's also made from a bit more plastic and a bit less metal. IIRC the PC9 was the first PC camera with the M series battery - I wouldn't buy anything that didn't have an M series batter and both these do. Other than that I think the picture quality etc is probably exactly the same.
  12. Cartman: "Es ist Zeit für Rache" Mob: "Wir müssen die Juden ausrotten"
  13. Kinda puts your opinion into perspective don't it when you find yourself agreeing with a crazy.
  14. try this link: http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/skydiving.htm It's a nice, simple and accessible explanation of skydiving and skydiving equipment. Remember that your first jump course overrules everything and anything you heard before it and please don't go to it thinking you've done your research and therefore know everything - that attitude could get you killed. It is also important to note that the link I've given you is only about 95% accurate and uses some odd terms here and there - so pay attention to your instructor. Have fun.
  15. "I know what you're thinking. "Did he fry me six times or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a Tazer Shockmaster 44, the most powerful tazer in the world, and would shock your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky?....Well, do ya punk?"
  16. Ahhhh - so it's the Liberals fault that Christian Conservatives are whack jobs, now I get it. Honestly, I'm joking and really don't care - but that is really funny.

So were my posts... including the last one. Guess I edited all of the humor out of it trying not to offend people. Oh well. There were some great colonies jokes in there originally.
  19. That's bloody well tantamount to an admission it's been going on up to now. What about giving detainees over to third parties to torture for you? Is that still legal under US interpretation of international law? If Condi is going to admit that US servicemen have been subjecting prisoners to torture, when are those people who committed or ordered such acts going to be brought before a court? Torture is an international crime against humanity - nearly any court in the world has jurisdiction to hear such cases - against people of any nationality. If the administration is ever dumb enough to admit they've ordered this sort of thing they better get used to the idea a retirement without the prospect of ever taking an overseas holiday.

It wasn't a competition. I didn't mean that the use of "mate" to mean spouse was wrong, just that to Brits its use in that context is damn funny to the point where people would stand round and point at you laughing. You just wouldn't use it that way here (hence the whole point of the thread). Just as the use of "fag" to mean cigarette would be in seen as bizarre and funny in the States. For examples on the use of "mate" here, look to the Oxford English Dictionary which doesn't even have listing for "mate" as a synonym for spouse: mate1 • noun 1 Brit. informal a friend or companion. 2 in combination a fellow member or occupant: his teammates. 3 the sexual partner of an animal. 4 an assistant. 5 an officer on a merchant ship subordinate to the master.
  21. Sure, I didn't mean "one thing" to be exhaustive. As I said, I agree that gun control is not the only factor in the murder rate, I just disagree that these tables actually support that contention.
  22. I agree with your edit. Enforcement is a huge element of the battle but is always a difficult thing to guage from tables.
  23. And how well is that enforced? Besides there are always exceptions to generalisations. The majority of the countries at the top of that table have very poor control on firearms ownership in their countries. Look at this longer version of your table. Look at the bottom entries - say from the UK down - those countries with the fewest murders per-capita. http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-b/cri_mur_cap They all have one thing in common - very very stringent gun control which is strongly enforced (with of course a couple of exceptions as with any generalisation). Now that is not the reason why murder rates are lower in those countries... but the figures do run entirely contrary to your argument.
  24. um... I can't think of any of the countries above the US in that list where you could describe gun restrictions as strict and well enforced or where obtaining a gun would pose a problem for anyone. Hell if you expand the list to all countries it's not until you get to number 40 in that you actually find a First World Nation - that country being France who’s firearms laws are nothing like as strict as UK laws for example. I'm not saying there's any correlation between gun laws and murder rates - I'm just saying that the table you post could actually be seen to be arguing that there is a very strong correlation. As such I am really confused by your posts. I initially thought you were being sarcastic. Seriously, I really did. Why would someone who is arguing that gun laws make no difference to gun crime post a table showing the US has the 24th highest murder rate per capita in the world (out of how many hundred countries?) putting it in amongst third and second world nations who have very very poor firearms control? I simply don't get your argument. I agree entirely. But this table does not show that - quite the contrary in fact.
