A drunken painted lady decided it would be fun to roll around on our windblade whilst it was stored under some packing tables at a recent event. We were not nearly so amused. Anyone know how to get body paint off a windblade / canopy material? It appears to be made from ZP and the effected area spans red and (more visibly) white areas of the windblade. Someone must have had to clean a stain of a canopy before… what’s best? Obviously as it’s not a safety concern we could be a bit more vigorous with it, but that’s not to say we want to wreck the thing… it was somewhat expensive. cheers

Sun Path grounds Javelins with adjustable MLW
mr2mk1g replied to kallend's topic in Safety and Training
That's exactly what this service bulletin requires. The rigs are all grounded until a master rigger certifies them as airworthy. Are you suggesting that ALL Master Riggers are somehow under the influence of Sun Path? Why do we need to get these rigs "out of the sky" even after they've been cleared as safe by a Master rigger? Do you not trust the judgement of master riggers? -

I've got to go with the same analogy... they're obviously dirt diving a speed star exit.
-
Nope - include the weight of canopy you're suspended under too. It has to suspend it's own weight too... a wing on it's own has a wing loading of whatever it's own weight is.... it the canopy was made of steel you'd want to factor it's weight into how it flew wouldnt you?

the camera flyer's obviously fiddling with his camera on the right there...

The new PAC 750XL will be assembled in Canada in 2005.

I can't really speak for tandem masters. I was mainly talking about simple space in a kind of cubic centimetre per jumper kind of comparison. Whilst the PAC takes 18 it is by no means a big plane. You are absolutely shoe-horned in there for a full load - on a full otter load there's far more room. Plus the PAC I've jumped didn't have any seats but for the people who had to sit in between the wing struts (yes the struts cross the plane behind the pilot). 2 poor schmuks end up sat in between and on the wing struts - those are definitely "bitch seats". -

well.... just cos they'll still make money doesnt nessaserily mean they'll want to... cos they'll be making less money than a full load. But if no loads go up they make no money... so it ought to make a difference. plus that's advertising blurb... I can't vouch for its accuracy... but I'd hope it would be pretty correct. -

oh yeah... and these cost brand new from the factory the same as a "cheap" second hand Cessna Grand Caravan. I dread to think what an Otter in good knick would cost by comparison... and for the extra you'd only get another 4 seats (although from personal experiance they'd be a hell of a lot more comfortable seats). -
If what dancingflame said is right, there is absolutely no financial benefit to be had by doing AFF out there. If you were trained when you got there however (ie had done AFF already in canada) you could very well do a great deal of jumps for cheap, as post qualification jumps really are a lot cheaper.

a very very very expensive bowl of spagetti.... isn't the pilot supposed to do a walk arround before starting her up?

I don't know the costs of either plane. All I know is that the PAC is "supposed" to cost about the same as two 206's (10 slots) to run but takes 18. Seems simple maths... if youre making money off 10 jumpers... you'll make about double off 18 jumpers if the running cost is the same. The advertising blurb says it's "still ecconomic on half loads"... so it would appear the dz will still make a profit even if it only does a 10 slot lift. Profit for the DZ is a good thing... it means facillities imporve and the operation gets bigger... or at least doesnt have to shut down. But as I said, I haven't actually seen any figures myself. -

Yup. I'd say it's going to make a big impact on DZ's who would like to run something bigger than a cessna 206/182 etc but cant justify anything the size of an otter. -
Sounds cool to me. Sex is all about having fun... if you did then what's the worry? I've not experianced that before, but I've seen it in a chick... looked fun. I say run with it. All you gotta do now is figure out how to repeat it... that's where the real fun starts.

How Would the D-Day Invasion be Reported today?

Yup, that's the one. Good video. Before anyone complains - the guy's fine. Funny how from memory it looked like a harrier when in fact its not at all.
-
This has to be the best quote from the article:
-
Does that chart include illegal possession of a firearm? hehehehehe I'm sorry, but if it does (and on the face of it it should as it's all recorded firearms crime simply broken down by firearm type) of course it's going to go up after possession is criminalised.... there are more things that are "criminal".
-
Saw a video (scary clips show) of this happening to a guy through a harrier engine (I think it was a harrier anyway - it was certainly on a carrier and had crescent intakes below the cockpit). Again his clothes got caught on something and he hung up inches from the blades. His helmet and headset got sucked through the engine and the pilot shut the engine down immediately. He was fine. The guy looked all limp like a piece of string as he got sucked in - was very freaky. On a related note - saw an episode of Top Gear (uk car show) the other night where the drove (by remote) a couple of cars behind 747 engines. The ford escort got blown 50ft and tumbled trashing itself. The Citroen 2cv literally exploded and took off landing 100 or more feet away. They said their timing had to be right as they could only put the engines on full power for 30seconds before they started to rip up the runway. Them's some powerful plants.

Sun Path grounds Javelins with adjustable MLW
mr2mk1g replied to kallend's topic in Safety and Training
Actually it probably is. After I posted I realised that the auction was listed a couple of days before the SB... but I guess there's no way of knowing who knew before it was published. -
Hmmm… the article linked to points out that if you take away the 172 murders committed by Harold Shipman (a doc who euthanised a load of his patients) the murder rate has actually gone down… It also points out that the majority of incidents in the “violent crime” section are drunken brawls… not really the sort of crime that would be effected by people carrying firearms, at least not in a positive manner anyway. You sure Skyrad?
