  1. Doubt it. I think it was a hard opening or a few that stretched out the front riser on one side. I figure that much differential would cause the canopy to act out of trim, account for the asymmetrical flare, and open like shit. Just making sure I'm not going crazy or anything. How does the one riser compare to the other one as far a length? If 3 of the 4 risers are the same length than it would be a manufacturing defect and has always been that way. I have never seen on riser stretch due to a hard opening. The lines will start to pop first. Riser sets should be replaced about every 500 to 600 jumps. 3. There's no such thing. Every AFF jump is training; it's practice - it's not an exam. If it takes you more than one jump's worth of freefall time to practice a given skill set before you move on to the next level, so be it. +1 And that folks is one of the best posts I have seen in quite awhile. 4. Is this really true? Brand new ZP should be almost 100% impervious to air whereas brand new F-111 will be "leaky" right from the factory. There has to be an advantage of ZP over F-111 besides life-time. When ZP fabrics wear out and become porous they are more similar to F-111 and generally considered "ragged out". Am I missing something here? What ever you say sport. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. LOL - you must have known you would get a Canopy Nazi comment by posting that! Put a few in a bag before you call anyone a "Canopy Nazi" hot shot. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. This may sound silly but I have seen it work on others. Wiggle your toes inside your shoes. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  7. The fact that you are loading both you main and reserve above what PD recommends for an expert canopy pilot probably doesn’t really matter with “mad skills”. Like Windsor said getting away with something for awhile leads to confusing luck with skill. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. If the pilot is back by the door you will have to take what ever the spot is. No one up front to make corrections. Sparky If I see the pilot heading for an open door, I'll go for help. Coward. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  10. Bill, The longer you attempt to make this a 'swooper' only problem, the longer you do a disservice to skydivers as a whole. The problem is across the board. Non-swoopers are flying into each other too, just as much. Is there a problem with swoopers flying into people? YES Is there a problem with non-swoopers flying into people? YES Ian One idea in not the solution to all problems. But does that mean that one idea should be cast out because it only addresses one portion of a known problem? As has been shown by the number of fatalities related to a 270 or HP landing in traffic we have the ability to prevent about half of them simply by not doing 270’s or HP landing is traffic. Traffic being more than one canopy in the air. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  11. Document? No, but I've heard the thump and turned my head to see the result a few times -- more than I care to. Same here Paul. But not one fatality that I have been able to find. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  13. Awwwwwww... I would've loved to hear him try to rationalize how a shard of glass cut a bunch of same sized holes in all of his ribs! Don’t laugh, I had a guy bring me his main and wanted the “holes” patched. I was tempted to patch them all and charge him accordingly.
  14. Gary contacted me in September of last year and offered me a job. I was to do follow up on gear purchased in the US, contact the manufactures and check on delivery dates verify orders, that sort of stuff. Even though he offered a very generous pay package I told him I would have to think about it. I made a few calls and started getting a bad feeling about the deal. I made a couple of efforts to contact him but never heard back I think this has been coming for some time now. I also think that quite a number of jumpers let the chance of saving a few bucks get in the way of doing the homework needed when buying on line. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  15. I am not advocating landing in opposing directions but can you document one fatality caused by this? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  16. ZP fabric does not make a canopy design fly and better than the same design made of and F-111 type of material. It just allows the canopy to maintain the flight characteristics longer. Plus it gives the jumper the opportunity to pack ZP. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  17. The incidents that precipitated this action I would attribute to sloppy rigging. The loop was too long allowing the various flaps to create an “s” in the loop and lock the container. It is my opinion that the change was a rush to judgment and fix a rigging error with an equipment change. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  18. The SuperPro was certificated under TSO C23b, which is 22 lbs for any container. The 15 lb limit for chest packs came in the later versions of the TSO standards. Just so people do not mis-understand, JerryBaumchen You are right. It wasn’t until AS8015-A went into affect in 1984. I guess that’s why I use a check sheet when I pack reserves. Thanks Jerry, Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  19. Like I said above, it’s your rig, have it your way. I just prefer the tactical feel of metal handles. Sparky http://i397.photobucket.com/albums/pp55/mjosparky/Skydiving/Handles.jpg My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  21. The legal limit for a chest mount is 15 pounds. For a back it is 22 pounds. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  22. That’s a good looking rig. Who cares if others may not like it. It’s your rig screw them. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  23. As one how has permanent hearing loss for Viet Nam the Fire Service I would think long and hard about continuing to jump. Jmo Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  25. OK dude, I guess you're not open to new ideas. But this is not my idea. This is the opinion of a large number of canopy flight instructors and competitors. For the sake of completeness, nobody is saying to fly a pattern blindly relying on just using the alti, but to use it as a tool to aid accuracy. I am also not saying that it's not possible to fly a good pattern without a digital alti. Finally, I did ask about Velocities in another thread, but not with a view to getting one, a fact which you left out above. I think what he is referring to is the fact that you have 200 jumps in 4 years and you are jumping a Katana 135 loaded at 1.52:1. PD does not even recommend the 135 for novice or intermediate canopy pilots. Give us one name of one canopy instructor or competitor that thinks this is a good idea. As was mentioned in another thread your posts tend to be “absolutes” and wrong. At the rate you are going you will probability be the main topic of discussion on dz.com soon.
