It was a style of ripcord handle used in military jets. It was shaped like a T and snapped over the end of the ripcord housing. It had to be pulled straight down or it would not come free of the housing. It was designed to withstand the "blast" of ejection and not deploy. It was latter adapted to sports use. Unless the center was drilled out it sometimes would hang up and eventually was banned by USPA. I have always wondered how USPA could ban something that was TSO'ed and approved by the FAA. It is easy to second guess the actions of some else from the comfort of your computer desk. How many of you have ever had a gun pull on you, had shots fired at you or ever felt your life was on the line. You watch a short video clip and with all your training and expertise pass judgement on the actions of others who had a split sec. to react. Grow up. Well, my point was that 1" webbing is more than adequate. Not all 1" webbing are constructed the same, and most are rated at or near 4,000 pounds ar at least above 15kn. I was not referring to only tubular webbing as there are several types of flat 1" rated at 3,700 pounds or greater. If we're talking about a 2" flat webbing folded in half along it's long axis, now we're exceeding 6,000 pounds. Nylon is some tough stuff... You are right, Type XVIII is 6,000, Type XX is 9,000 and Type XXV is 4,500. But chest straps are made from Type XVII and that is 2,500 lb. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

1" type 17 webbing is rated at 2500 lb. 1" tubular nylon is rated at 4,000. Maybe that is what you were referring to. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

rareform, Thanks for the reply. I am glad to see that Dan has adult supervision. I have be test jumping for some 20 years, presently manager of air drop and testing for a CA company, and I would not jump a 126 unless the price was right, very right. Dan, You keep thinking you have no problems. A wing loading of 2.1, Vladi, and a wing loading of 1.9, you on a 126 sq. ft. reserve can not in any way be justified. I you think you can handle it demo a 126 for 3 jumps and then get back to us. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

The high speed, high weight test involves 3 drop and must be made with the same test item, canopy, harness/container ect. Minor repairs may be made between drops but it must be the same item. Thats alot of stress. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Shawn, You would be well advised to jump a reserve that is within the limits of you exit weight. When you get a 1000 jumps under your belt, then you can do something stupid and jump an overloaded reserve canopy. Remember, when you go to you reserve, fun jumping is over.
