  1. Dear Physics nerd, When you deploy a parachute you do not experience acceleration. There are 2 things, snatch force and opening shock. Snatch force is when the deploying canopy is accelerated to the same speed as the jumper. Opening shock is the jumper being decelerated by the canopy and the air mass associated with it. This is measured in G's. What makes G's hurt more or less is time, duration of the loading. If you take 12 G's over 2 /3 sec. it is not too bad. If you take 7/8 G's over 0.2 or 0.3 sec. it will knock your dick in the dirt. There is no "jerk" involved unless its the person under the canopy. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. His name was Jimmy Tyler. The first time he left one plane, Bill Parsons left another and Jimmy snapped on to Bill's harness and they landed under one canopy. The second time Jimmy left one plane and his canopy was tossed from another plane. Both jumps were done several times with Jimmy wearing a rig before it was filmed for "Thats In-edible" Jimmy was killed jumping Half Dome. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  4. The Phantom 24 is a copy of the Piglet R-3, but with one less lateral band. I did the original TSO testing on it for Para Inovators. At the time I was 160 lb. young and tough as nails. My advise, don't go near it. They will bite you in the butt. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. That approach was popular before the Challengder Classic ever came along. I learned it on a Cloud from Bob Smith of Canada in 1979. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  7. QuoteStatic line students on their first release do a 5 second delay ***Wrong, their first jump off of static line is a clear and pull, arch, look, pull, arch. After 3 good clear and pulls they move to 5 sec. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. The amount of G's a human can take depends on the person and time. Loads up to 18 G's can be taken if the duration is short, or as little as 4 G's will put you out if the duration is several sec. I have taken 14/15 on several occasions and only grayed out once. 12. Ed, Those guys that you feel like a dumbass in front of, at one time flew just like you do now or like you did 100 jumps ago. And you will fly just like them when you have their experience. Did they come and debrief the jump with you, let you know what to work and stuff? If not, they suck. Don't sweat the small shit. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. Yes we do. Yesterday I was part of an 18 person demo into Cal. Speedway in So. Calif. for a IRL race. Everyone wore smoke or banners, 2 did crew and one jumped a monster flag. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  14. Hop & Pop is slang for Clear & pull, like saying dope rope for static line. Static line students on their first jump off static line do a clear & pull. An AFF student coming off student status should be able to exit with control and pull right out of the door. Do we have some instructors who could clear this up for us. 15. Doesn't that make it a 4 or 5 sec. delay instead of a clear and pull? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  20. I don't think anyone jumps for "free". There is an exchange of consideration somewhere in the deal. Instructors, camera flyers and other employees of a DZ exchange labor for their jumps. Teams get reduced rates in exchange for the good will and prestige they bring. The guy that won the 100 jumps just by posting the fact here is exchanging good will. Even the DZO doesn't jump for free. When its all figured out he/she probably pays more then any of us. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  23. This is an issue. If the card has information about the compliance of a SB for the container and for the reserve and they are split up when sold, which component does the card go with? The short-term solution is for a rigger to make a card for the other component detailing any SB/AD information or other revenant data, repairs, alterations, etc. The long-term solution is for each component, AAD, Reserve, and Harness/Container, to have it's own card. Re-packs, repairs (new BOC, etc.) would be on the Harness/Container card, while AAD maintenance and other information would go onto the AAD's card and repairs, AD/SB, inspection, repairs, etc. information applicable to the reserve would go onto the reserve's card. Derek *** Derek, This is an excellent idea. I have tried it a couple of times in the last year or so. Both my rigs are that way. The problem I have found, skydivers are flakes and loose at least one of the cards. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  24. QuoteDo you have a source for this? I'd be interested to see revenues from 1996-2002. QuoteDo you have a source for this, specifically government revenues over the past ten years? ***You asked for a source of these revenues, Gawain provides it and you ignore them and move on to population growth. You seem to have a very low opinion of other peoples intelligence and their ability to understand concepts at your lofty level. But trust me, most of us are not as intellectually challenged as you seem to believe. Further discussion with you on this matter would be fruitless. jmho My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
