    At the 1978 nationals at Richmond, some guy that went to a local college was going around saying they had computed, what ever that means, that if we could build a 99 way box that you could land it. At that time we were still struggling with a 50 way. I listened to him for awhile and decided if I was on it I am afraid they would land a 98 way.     I have. Every canopy manufacturer has a demo program where you can hookup a reserve as a main. Smart jumpers take advantage of these kinds of programs. _Am The Swift Plus was made by Para-Flite, and they do not have a demo program, they don't even make that canopy anymore. I would venture a guess that your reserve is F-lll. You are right, skydiving should not be a yuppie sport but that is what it is/has become. jmo As far as reality goes, if you survive in this sport as little as 10 years, you come talk to me about reality.     Does "surface area to mass" bring anything to mind? If "1" has 3 sq. ft of surface area and weighs 100 lbs "1" will fall faster than "2" if "2" has 3 sq. ft. of surface area and weighs 50 lbs.     Slug, The above post was not addressed to you but to a guy with around 150 jumps and very little time in the sport. I doubt if he has even jumped 7 cell much less one that is a 20 + year old design and only 145 sq. ft.(if I am wrong I apologize) When he posts information that had no basis in fact others might take it as the "straight dope" and make some bad choices. No where did I say that a canopy is worn out after twenty years or XX number repacks. The manufactures of some canopies are saying that and if they say it I have to go along with it. see FAA part 65.129.e If someone wants to buy a used Swift or any other reserve for that matter I could care less. All I am saying is there are far better options. Skydiving is an expensive sport and if a person is not able to afford to purchase current up today equipment maybe they should look elsewhere for the recreation. jmo Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

    This is a guess from a demo jumps point of view. The accuracy jumper land on a big pad called a Tufet, Sp?, while the demo jumper needs/wants to land standing up in a parking lot. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

    Scott, Where do you get your information from? 1. The progression of technology did not slow down. If anything it picked up. After going from round to square it was not as noticeable. 2. Do you know why no one jumps a 9 cell elliptical reserve made of ZP? 3. We discussed this before, there is a huge difference between a 7 cell reserve made 20 years ago and one produced today. And as "Alan" posted, F-111 has not been manufactured in years. What is used today is a LoPo type material about 0-3 cfm. Your Swift Plus 145 reserve, while loaded high for your experience, will probably save your life, but there are canopies out there today that will do the same thing with less chance of injury.
