  1. Now here is a guy who is BAD! I mean really Bad. Sparky http://biggeekdad.com/2010/01/tango-mike-mike/ My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. Their web site does not list a “Speed” reserve just the Speed 2000. And that is TSO’d. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  3. That is the way a Cannula was designed to be worn. Putting the butt end of the hose in your mouth is not very effective because you will breathe through your nose. Sparky Yep but you do know how many actually do this.......very few. Other than common joke of past cocaine use shredding your nasal passage, I've never figured out why more people don't use it this way. Cool factor? My guess is that no one has taken the time to explain it to them. I did big ways almost exclusively and can’t remember ever being briefed on the right way to wear a cannula. I knew how because I was a Fire Dept. PM for a number of years. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  6. What time frame are we talking about here when you say "modern" and "old"? Sorry, but I've been in the sport for 4-5 months, so to me a 15 years old design is "old", but probably others think in a different way. Thanks! Some of those rigs Jerry and Lee are talking about are older then you are. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  7. The type of lines have very little to do with how hard a canopy opens. Some types of line will transfer the opening forces to the jumper more than others. To slow it down check your packing and make sure that the slider grommets are tight against the stops. See about having this mod done….it will make a huge difference. 8. Look on the bright side of thongs will ya, at lease we made skydiving gear so safe, that now, skydiving is dangerous again. “We have created an environment in skydiving where the gear is so good that the people using it don’t have to be.” Dan Pointer Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  10. "A factoid is a questionable or spurious (unverified, false, or fabricated) statement presented as a fact, but without supporting evidence." "The word can also be used to describe a particularly insignificant or novel fact, in the absence of much relevant context." "Factoid was coined by Norman Mailer in his 1973 biography of Marilyn Monroe. Mailer described a factoid as "facts which have no existence before appearing in a magazine or newspaper", For what its worth. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  11. I stand corrected..... replace "Hop and Pop" with "Low altitude ticket".
  12. I've had this very discussion with a number of people as of late. Personal opinion, you will need about $75K. JerryBaumchen The last one I was involved in was in 1998/1999. We were under contract to China Lake providing A/C, rigging, drop tests, live jumps and ground recovery. We billed them in excess of $100,000. But we paid for all the beer. 13. He sure stayed with the main a long time. The blue canopy at 1:08 is the reserve, the camera just lost track of him. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  14. Just for clarification….it seems people have lost the meaning of “hop and pop”. It does not mean a jump from 5,000 feet or even 4,000 feet. It is a jump where as soon as you leave the plane you open your canopy, hence “hop and pop”. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  17. There was no reasoning behind his actions…..I think that is what everyone is upset about. I am from CA and for 3 or 4 years running I was invited to participate in the Texas state record and the Texas POP’s record. When we succeeded it wasn’t my record or and other individuals record. They were Texas state records. Hell a few years ago the Brazilian national record of 82 was set at Eloy. 25. How do you know you are not going to need it? What if an ass collides with your canopy, breaking some lines and collapsing the main, and leave you unconscious at the same time? What if you are not unconscious and cutaway but you are too low and do not react as fast as you should? Chances are that you won't need the AAD after you have a functioning main, but why on earth would you like to turn it off? Unless you are doing mad swoops that can trigger your swoop friendly AAD (highly unlikely), I don't see the point. Yea....those are the things I would worry about......
