Need to know if im getting a good deal...... PLEASE!
mjosparky replied to craig00025's topic in Gear and Rigging
Get the following on the different components: Container: DOM, length of MLW, hard or soft housing, RSL and type of main deployment. (ROL, BOC, Pull Out ect.) Main: DOM, type of lines, how many jumps on lines, patches or other damage. Reserve: DOM, type of lines, # of deployments, overall condition, any SB’s AAD: DOM, 4/8 service, last battery change Like someone else mentioned, are these canopies appropriate for your size and experience. And remember, no matter what the seller says, this gear is something he no longer wants for what ever reason. -

The most common cause of "tension knots" is asymmetrical loading of the line groups. This usually the result of a body position, one shoulder low or on you side at line stretch. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

OK, which one of those long haired hippy pukes is Jerry?

I agree, you are not stupid. But you have a lot to learn. Asking questions of the more experienced jumpers is a good way to learn. But you need to listen more and argue less. At 37 jumps, most of the time you will be wrong. This has nothing to do with intelligence it is just hard to learn something is less than an hour. And 37 jumps is less than an hour including freefall and canopy time. Next week end go up and do a H&P for altitude and have some video it from exit to deployment. Play the video back and not the time. In high speed, high stress situations our mind sometimes plays tricks with perceived time.

HP landing on a( the first) demo jump?
mjosparky replied to phoenixlpr's topic in Safety and Training
But that "Bureaucratic paperwork" gives people who do not personally know what this jumpers experience and judgment are something to go by. (not perfect but better than nothing} It means that the jumper at least took the time and effort to demonstrate that he has the basic skills to perform demos. If you in fact have the skills, and I know you do John, it should not be a problem. As for cost, it is less than the cost of a jump each year. Those who refuse to get it can continue to swim upstream and bitch about not getting on anything but the demos for the opening of a new vacant lot. Or they can show off their skills and after a while start doing the demos that pay real money, not gas and a hot dog. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

Thank you, I had not heard of an incident like that before. -
Pictures, did you get pictures. Of course this is so that others can avoid the same problem. Nooooo...it was gross and very uncomfortable Groos is often in the eye of the beholder. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I have to agree with a couple of things. First, this is the worst damage I have ever seen and that includes tests with loads of over 400 pounds at speeds of 205 KEAS at 24,000 MSL. And second, it does appear from the picture that the 4 point stitching might in fact be above the harness ring. This would just invite failure if deployment caused a sheer loading at the joint. Jmo I sure would love to have a chance to see this rig first had.

In 1999 I had a kidney removed due to cancer. A little less than a year later Bob was on my 2000th. at the Old Farts Reunion. I look up and here he comes, no jumpsuit, no gloves, no helmet, and no goggles. He flew down and docked just as sweet as you please.

I have a bungee pilot chute on both my rigs and they work doing H&P from 2000 feet out of a Wilga. On jump run it flies at about 50 mph. Like anything else, it must be designed right and maintained.

That’s a habit you should not get into. When things go wrong on a skydive the only thing you want to think about saving is your own ass. You start worrying about your gear and they will bury you with it. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Could you fill us in on how it "misfired"? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Did you pay $1500 for your gear? For the main and reserve, for both rigs, yeah about that. But gear is more expensive here I didn't think about that. I think you guys are getting ripped off but I guess you haven't got much choice. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

HP landing on a( the first) demo jump?
mjosparky replied to phoenixlpr's topic in Safety and Training
If the jumper’s choice of canopy at 400 jumps is any indication of his use of common sense then I would say he should be doing a demo of any kind. Demos are not just another skydive. They can go form a “slam dunk” to a “bait ball” in a heart beat. A pocket rocket is not the canopy to be hanging under when this happens. And I know, he will tell you how good he is. Well some of the problems you can run into are due to what others throw at you. They may string a com. Wire across your approach line after you leave for the A/P. You radio contact with the ground crew went down and you don’t see the wire until the last 50 feet. They decide to move the Marching Band on half of the landing area while you are under canopy. Or maybe you have some moron in the stands shooting of bottle rockets during your setup. These are not, “well this might happen”, scenarios. I have had all of them happen. This kid with the 120 and 400 jumps has not seen the ball since kickoff. Make sure there is a clear lane for the ambulance to get in. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

Atsaubrey went through AFF with a MT-1XX. But they are a hassle with some DZ's. They are not TSO'd but made under a military specification number. Sometimes it is a real pain in the ass trying to explain the difference to someone who has never heard of it. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
