Hey Sang. I've been a lead PHP + MySQL programmer for about 3 years now so let me know if you need any help when you make the code switch. Never had any probs with MySQL over the last few years, but then I'm not doing many inserts or updates, just selects. -MarkM

Hey Sangiro ! I know I speak for everyone when I tell you how appreciative we are for everything you do, and all the headaches you must endure, to keep "OUR" site up and open for business. Just from reading posts today, and a few e-mails back and forth from some of the regulars here, I keep hearing the words "work is boring" and "I felt lost without my forums" and "I got a lot done today since I wasn't jumping on the site every half-hour" -- it made me stop for a moment and think of how many snippets of time in a day I check ya'll out, even if it's only for 5 minutes between meetings or something of the like. I wish I was a cyber-genius like so many of ya'll seem to be, but all I know is to hit the POWER button, then start typing -- if you get me out of our internal system here at work, I'm lost. If I lived closer to you, I'd offer to come over and mow your grass, or wash your car, or at least do SOMETHING helpful -- maybe you could use me as a gofer, or a guinea pig ( as in "Hey, Don, hold these two bare wires while I hook this up, then touch them together when I say OKAY !). Your efforts are mucho apprecianado by us all...... The PLF King

Hey Zennie, The muck-up started before the chat session on Wednesday - I'm not really sure what caused it but I started doing some research on the web and found quite a few cases where other folks, using the same Host as I had problems with the mySQL deamons on their servers. So, my guess is that my data has simply reached a volume where it needs to be re-indexed and something small got it out of sync. From there it's easy to see the gradual decline in data integrity... like the foums now not recognizing anyone, a problem I didn't have last night. I'm going to stick with mySQL for a variety of reasons, no the least being that as litle as I know about databases, this is the one I know the most about. Also, it is the prefered database to run with PHP - which is probably where I'll start moving the site to over the next couple of months. The mySQL/PHP combination is very powerful and there's a large open-source community out there developing scripts for that combo - that helps with finding support and answers as well. As for the PayPal account - anythig would help! The setup cost on the new server would be around $300 and then about $500 per month afterwards! Don't fret about the money too much though!

If someone you know thinks jumping is too risky, show them this video. OUCH!!!

Also out of curiosity, could you use postgresql instead of mySQL? It's been a while since I've worked on the *NIX side of things, but I remember postgresql being pretty popular. Dunno if you can wire it into your board software or not. 'Course there's always Oracle, but that may be overkill. ;) --------- Zennie

Sometimes restoring from backups is about the best you can do. Thank God for 'em though huh? Being one of the tech contingent, my natural curiosity is piqued. Did the main server get overloaded during the chat and crash? I noticed you have a paypal link. If we send you some cash will that help you get a better server? Best of luck & keep up the good work! --------- Zennie

Anyone else stuck at work this weekend with no prospect of jumping? This is my second in a row and I missed a belter of a weekend last weekend. Work stinks, but man can't live on skydiving alone, or can he? Allrightscud (since the user name ain't working)

HH - let us know of any of the dz.com tech-heads can do anything to help. Also, would you like some of us to try to sell some ads for you? I would be willing to coordinate inventory and trafficking and make a few calls if you would like. Carl

Ouch. The problem with this is that if you have a container lock, there is a chance it can open when the reserve container does (releasing the pressure), and you can have the now cut away main foul your inflating reserve. Granted, the not cut away one might also, and you have to deal with two canopies out, but the theory is your chances are better giving your main a normal deployment sequence. Or has drug use in my youth caused me to make a misjudgement here? Carl

Heya boys and girls, Well is this just a royal screw-up or what!! Bwhahahahaaa! So, have not been getting much sleep - it seems like the mySQL deamon (never trust them deamons!) which is supposed to keep the database that runs these forums, and a lot else on the site, sane has mucked up! I have no idea how to fix all the BAD except for to make the site take a few steps back. So, in the next day I will probably restore the entire site to where we were on Monday night...nothing like a bit of time traveling!

That's how I heard it also Palmetto. It saves time trying to think "hmm, what kind of mal is this and what's the right thing to do with this one?"...just cut and pull out the reserve automatically. Gives you less to think about and less chance of choosing wrong! Pammi

Sangiro, I agree. Somehow I thought you meant container lock and that is why I marked just pull the reserve. I guess I was second guessing the wording. :) Malachi

Thanks! You would not believe how many women talk to me and finally I find out really the reason why they skydive. Or at least one of the reasons. Usually it is something like us. But they found out about the upside, being the self esteem deal. Personally, I have never thought about unpaid traffic tickets, mortages or anything negative while on the aircraft, while in freefall, or while landing or when I am with my extened family at the DZ. Not once. Ok, maybe driving there I might think once about that ticket, but other than that its ALL GOOD. AirAnn http://www.airann.com Now today, we are off to the DZ, worry about how come I cant log in later.......

On a lighter note, have any of you heard this yet? I love it (It'd by Creed): Never Die Hands on a window pane Watching some children laugh and play They're running in circles With candy canes and French braids Inspired to question What makes us grown-ups anyway? Let's search for the moment When youth betrayed itself to age So let the children play Inside your heart always And death you will defy 'Cause your youth will never die In searching for substance We're clouded by struggle's haze Remember the meaning Of playing out in the rain We swim in the fountain Of youth's timeless maze If you drink the water Your youth will never fade Never die I won't let go of that youthful soul Despite body and mind my youth will never die. Cool :) Pammi

Sangiro said-- I believe you are right! My wording in that poll sucks! the intentions were right...then I got the wrong malfunction up there. Safe swoops Sangiro DB--Why do you say that your wording sucks? The majority vote was correct for the "question asked," be it the intended question or not. You asked in your post--You have a bag-lock malfunction falling through 2000 ft, you.... DB--By definition, a bag lock malfunction implies that the bag is off your back with one of the stows not released for whatever reason. This is considered a partial malfunction, and should be cut-away to avoid possible reserve entanglement. As far as PC's in tow, I would hope that the recommend response to them in well known. Now let's have a poll for horseshoe malfunctions, which are much more dangerous! Dave Brownell

But you would pull low and pack fast?

LMAO!! Cyber, if that's really you, I agree with everything you said except for the part about beef jerky! You'll love this, presumably written by State Rep. Mitchell Kaye from GA. BILL OF NO RIGHTS We the people of the united states, in an attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblence of justice, and avoid any more riots, keep our nation safe, promote possitive behavior, and secure the blessings of debt-free liberty to ourselves and our great-great-great grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt ridden, delusional and other liberal, bed wetters. We hold these truths to be self-evident: that a whole lot of people were confused by the bill of rights and are so dim that they require a Bill of No Rights. ARTICLE I: You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but nobody is guaranteeing anything. ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc., but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be. ARTICLE III: You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful, do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy. ARTICLE IV: You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatos who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatos. ARTICLE V: You do not have the right to free health care. That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in free health care. ARTICLE VI: You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim or kill someone, don't be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair. ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV or a life of leisure. ARTICLE VIII: You don't have the right to demand that our children risk their lives in foriegn wars just to soothe your aching conscience. We hate oppressive governments and won't lift a finger to stop you from going to fight if you'd like; however, we do not enjoy parenting the entire world, and do not want to spend so much of our time battling each and every little tyrant with a military uniform and a funny hat. ARTICLE IX: You don't have the right to a job. All of us sure want you to have one, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful. ARTICLE X: You do not have the right to happiness. Being American means that you have the right to pursue hapiness - which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over abundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.
