  1. Greg Gasson can also shoot 35mm and is one of the best camera flyers out there.
  2. It's a nice lense, but I would go for the 70-200 f2.8 so you'd have a nice zoom range, but the prime would be tad sharper I guess.
  3. If there are any Texas or Colorado jumpers that are driving to Eloy the 27th or 28th, I'm trying to find some people to caravan with.
  4. I was wondering if anyone has jumped both helmets and can give an opinion on them. Do you feel a difference flying the narrow vs. the pro or is the platform size the only difference you would find.
  5. bracketing works really well, but there's just not time for it in the air, or enough film for it in one jump usually.
  6. Just curious if anyone has jumped both canopies of the same size, I was just wondering how the Xfire's flare, glide and dive compare to the nitron.
  7. For those of you out there who shoot slides, what do you use for determining exposure. I usually shoot all manual and take several meter readings on the ground and average them out, but I usually end up a little off. Slides are very tricky to get just right, I was just wondering what settings everyone uses.
  8. I also have a 2 piece firefly freefly camera suit and it rocks, its fits perfectly and allows me an amazing range in fall rate.
  9. I've used a Safire, Spectre, Stiletto, and Nitron
  10. I hear a lot of people say that its a bad thing to dock on the tandem instructor. I've seen a lot of photos with people docked on them, quite a few at SDC over summerfest. So whats up with that?
  11. If anyone knows of any gear store that has a crossfire 169 or larger that can be sent out for a demo, please let me know. Icarus doesn't have one available.
  12. Cool, I noticed though when my 10D is set at the highest res (large jpeg w/out compression), it only gives me a 2 meg file. Also, how do you set print prices higher than normal on shutterfly? And when people buy prints, how do they pay you?
  13. I was just wondering for those of you who use shutterfly, what size of file do you use to upload, do you color correct them before you do, do you use shutterfly to make prints for yourself, and whats the biggest you can make them given the file size you use without digital banding or grain? I have a 10D which I think a lot of people here use. And for those who use the 10D, do you shoot in the RAW format and is it of higher quality than the largest normal file size?
  14. Well you charge more for a 20x30 because the print costs more to make. I used to print all of my own photos, and I can tell you that when making a 20x30, you often need more expensive equipment and film to make it look presentable. It is also a great deal more work to print a 20x30 vs. a 4x6. The usual mark-up when your starting out is 200-300% of the print price. If your making your own prints, you just set your own prices. What should determine your prices is how much people are willing to pay for your pictures.
  15. I know 4 guys that jump JVC's just like that and have been doing it for hundreds of jumps. I personally went with Sony, but if you already bought the JVC, here's how you attach a wide angle. Get a step up ring that is the size you need for the wide angle. A step up ring is a just a thin ring that would screw onto the back of the wide angle. Glue the step up ring on the front of the camera with aircraft epoxy or some other extremely strong adhesive. Be careful not to get any of it on the lens. Now you can attach a wide angle. It can be done, and I know of 4 of them that have been going for years and hundreds of jumps, but if you can, get a Sony, they are still better.
  16. There will always be something better coming out after you buy your camera. It's the way technology is. I don't know what your criteria is for the camera, but if you need an extreme ammount of detail, there's digital backs for medium format cameras.
  17. I jump a 20-35 on my rebel G right now, and I'll probably put it on the 10D as well. I know it won't be as wide because of the CCD, but I can't really buy another lens right now. BTW, how much does a shutterfly site cost to put up?
  18. I think that most people mount them on the left side so that if you look over your shoulder, it won't be in the way of any bridles or risers. At the same time, you don't want to look back during a deployment because it will load up your left riser causing excess stress on it and if you have an elliptical canopy, it could open off heading or even maybe spin up. I have seen cameras mounted on the right though, and they work. There's nothing wrong with it, you just have to think about the different pros and cons of doing it.
  19. me too, I just got a hanson full face, but I need to attach the cutaway hinge and foam it. I can't wait to start jumping it.
  20. I was wondering for those out there that have the jedei, what is the glide angle and flare like? Is it a really flat glide like a stiletto with the control range in the first part of the flare, or is the control range deeper? I know it dives harder than the stiletto, but I'm mainly asking about the glide at full flight and control range?
  21. I am soo happy. I just got my 10D and I can't wait to start shooting a ton of pictures and not paying for any film or developing.
  22. So don't you guys think RSL's are a huge death trap? (trying to hijack thread from war discussion(did I say that outloud))
  23. For those of you who have 10D's, what type of memory cards and capacity do you use? What speed do you need for fast shooting while jumping?
  24. You can jump a lot if you really get after it. There's a guy that jumps at my DZ that has 700 jumps over 1 1/2 years, all of them at 182 DZ's.
  25. ----------------------------------------------------------- If you really believe that, try jumping it without the brakes set! There wouldn't be much difference. The distance from the brake set loop to the toggle is only about 4, maybe 5 inches. The toggles are set loose too so that they don't deflect the tail even with very radical front riser turns.
