I only have 1 final left and I'm done studying. I can't wait to get finals behind me and Skydive Chicago here I come.

that may be how you format the video, but I don't think you could make a cool title page like they have on DVD's with quicktime.

I know there is some kind of software that allows you to put about 45 mintues of DV footage on a regular CD-R and you can play it in a DVD player. This also might just be VCD, but the one I saw had a cool menu and 45 minutes of high quality video. Anyone know what this software is and where one might acquire a copy.

Hey Beavers, That's definately kinda weird. Were you doing stalls by chance? I've seen a PC come over the top of a canopy and get wrapped in the A and B lines and I've seen a tandem drogue do the same thing. The sport canopy that had it wrapped in there got that way from radical stalls, but the tandem just happened.

cut back on beer? That's crazy talk! Cut back on food or something thats not important.

How do you attach your flash to your helmet?
JayhawkJumper replied to Deuce's topic in Photography and Video
I have a 550EX, but I don't jump it. If I were going to mount it though, I'd probably just rotate the flash head up and gaff tape it to the helmet. You could tape it so you would have access to all the controls as well. You may also want to consider a 540EZ or something even cheaper. The 550EX has a lot of bells and whistles you won't need for jumping unless you want to buy 3 and attach them to other jumpers and fire them simultaneously with yours as the master (hmmmm, could be interesting). -
You also might want to take into consideration the possibility of a big tear in the top of the canopy from the lineover. There has been one case I know of where the line sawed completely through the canopy, but this would obviously be a cutaway situation. I still use the method from the first jump course: 1. Is it square? 2. Can I steer it? 3. Can I land it? If it doesn't meet my criteria, by by, hello reserve.

I know 5 guys who fly the JVC DVP 3 and 7 and they love em. 3 guys have it mounted on the side of a gath with some aluminum and 2 others have it on a bonehead. 2 guys have been jumping them for years with no problems.

Has anyone flown the Canon GL1?

With a sidemount the weight isn't a huge factor, but if you start mounting other crazy things on your head, don't watch your canopy open. I always try to look at the horizon, especially when I have my still on my head because if you tilt your head back to watch your opening and all of a sudden your canopy slams open, OUCH! If you are looking at the horizon, all the weight of the helmet is pressing down instead of slamming your neck in one direction or the other.

You should have those bar tacked (sp) or at least zig zagged. Thats the great thing about finger traps though, if they aren't stiched, they will still hold because of the tension, but when you released tension after you landed, they came out. Don't jump fingertrapped toggles that aren't stiched or secured in some way. Losing a toggle on final would not be good.

Are you getting this tube from Joe? He probably thinks your going to attach it to your foot. A sit tube just has a bar of some kind that you hold onto and when you don't want it anymore, you just let go. The foot tubes I've seen have three rings on them with a cutaway similar to those on skyboards. One of the guys in Wichita has made a bunch of head-down tubes with three rings on them, so you could talk to him about that, but if its a hand tube, just hold on and let go.

I tend to land on other parts of my body other than the bottom of my feet from time to time. I never though of leaving the socks on the ground though, I'll give that one a try.

Malev, I hope you enjoy the jump and maybe I'll see you in September for some chilly jumping. I'll be going to school for the fall term in Sterling and hopefully the weather will let me jump a time or two. Have FUN!

Check out all the helmets you can and talk to an experienced camera flyer on your DZ about it. Everyone has their own opinions about what is the best of safest camera helmet, but its really a decision you need to make on your own after learning as much as your can about each helmet. I personally jump a 2K ff2 (www.2kcomposites.com) which I think is the best and safest helmet for me, but obviously not everyone has the same opinion for themselves. I would say it sounds like you should look into something side-mounted and obviously as clean a mount as possible. I would personally recomend the 2k FFX or FF2, but you will probably get a lot of other recomendations.

I feel your pain Lisa, its beautiful here today, but I can't jump b/c I have a meeting at 2:00 and its an hour and a half to the DZ. Why couldn't we meet in the morning or evening??? And I don't even get to jump all through June and July b/c of school.

Damian had it all pretty much right, but its important to not flinch if your the photog, but its not like it was me or anything.
-
Another good lesson: don't get in a swoop pond for a picture and then get the bright idea to ask someone to swoop directly over your head. And after all that, after you get the shot, don't flinch. I'm not saying this happened to me or anything, but I guess it could happen and it would kinda suck for anyone to have to get pulled out of 2 feet of water because they were unconcious.

I have only shot a few roles in the air, but for film, I usually buy Fuji 100/400 speed in bulk from Walmart. As far as pro slide film, I usually order bulk roles from B&H. They keep it cold there and it gets to you pretty quick to temp isn't a big deal. I ordered a few hundred feet of provia when I was shooting concerts, but now I just buy a role at a time for the $10 price because I don't shoot it much anymore. Print film would be better to shoot on a regular basis so you can have the forgiveness of exposure latitude, but if its a really cool jump that might get published you might want to pull out the velvia or provia.

Canopy selection...Hey Icarus pilots!!!!
JayhawkJumper replied to jose's topic in Safety and Training
I fly a Safire 189 with the new safire2 line trim. It's not a bad canopy, but in my opinion it doesn't have near the flare of a sabre2. -
Have you jumped your reserve?
JayhawkJumper replied to bwilling's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had one cutaway as a student on jump #3. I have also demo'ed my current reserve and loved it. I would recomend getting a demo of the reserve before you buy just like the main so you don't have to figure it out at 500 feet. -
I actually went to space camp in Hutchinson Kansas and it was really cool. They have an even more advanced shuttle sim now than when I was there which is almost identical to the real shuttle from what I hear. We also got to take a really cool trip to NASA in texas.
