If you mean Washington state. the best thing to do is drop the kids off. Then make your way to dowtown Seattle. From there you can take the Washington State ferries to BC or south eastern Alaska. It's basically public transportation in that region. The San Juan islands are really something. I believe that is the best time of the year to see the whale migration It's a really spiritual place.
