  1. But a higher court can easily overrule it and all it takes is one court in a series to throw something out. It doesent matter. Trump's attempt at cheating by stopping vote counting while the odds are in his favor wont hold up in even the most conservative of courts. Even if it did, the counting is close to complete by now and by the time anyone makes a decision on the matter it will already be a done deal. Pretty sure they dont annotate which votes were counted on what day, so really once it's in the system there is no way to differentiate anymore between different votes.
  2. Well you have to remember states that are high in COVID cases are that way because they obviously dont take the virus seriously. Thus, if they dont take the virus seriously why would it affect their poll decisions? In the grand scheme things of things, 230k deaths is like 1.5 deaths per 1,000 so in reality most people probably do not know someone who has died of COVID. I dont know of any. I dont even personally know of anyone who has been hospitalized. I know of coworkers in my building that ended up in the ICU, but I dident personally know them. So for most people, unless they have some super extended family or something, most Americans still havent directly lost a love one or ended up in the hospital themselves so until that happens the COVID deniers are not likely to care.
  3. so who is going to win? that's all that matters. the retoric is if the republicans lose, some of those who voted for trump will still be alive come this summer, whereas if trump wins many of them (and dems as well) will be dead from Covid come summertime. we will be sitting at 250,000 cases a day and 500,000 deaths and it will still be 'we defeated covid months ago--we're doing great'.
  4. That brings up another matter--fucking spam calls. Something like 50% of all calls are SPAM calls these days. Every person in the country who owns a phone gets them. I bet the president himself gets them. It would be nice if the FCC would get off their ass and do something about it. The main issue is the invention of VOIP which allows phones to spoof any number it wants quite easily. Start at the source and you'll find the problem.
  5. We have a real election going on to be concerned about. Skydiving is hardly even a thing these days.
  6. Yes, there is a risk, which is why this is called a risk acescent. There is some possibility that something bad could happen if the vaccine is released early. However, there is an absolute 100% possibility that something bad will happen if it is not released early (i.e. lots of people die who otherwise wouldn't have). So what sounds worse, 2% of the users possibly suffering from kidney failure, or another 100,000 people who we absolutely, positively know will die without a vaccine?
  7. In the case of the FULL LOCKDOWN!!!!!! no one has actually done such a thing in the USA. The so called lockdowns were barely even so. Half the businesses out there were 'essential' including your local Jiffy Lube. People still went out for various reasons. The lockdowns werent THAT restrictive.
  8. There are already vaccines in mass production at this moment. Pfizer has hundreds of thousands of doses already made and available for use. I know that getting a vaccine to everyone wont happen overnight or this year. However, for every day we spend messing around, that entire plan gets pushed to the right by one day. So instead of getting everything ready by say March, now it's April, or May, and on and on. Some manufacturers are skipping ahead and starting the production process now in hopes the FDA will approve their product, but others are not. They are waiting, and waiting costs lives. If the FDA said okay, you can start administering your product today, I guarantee you those timelines will suddenly become shorter because now the pharmaceuticals have a reason to get moving. Regarding the lead time on the equipment, anything can be expedited. I have seen 10-story buildings built in 3 months because they were built under the premise of 'I dont care how much it costs, whoever can get it done fastest gets the contract'. You'd be amazed how fast equipment and tools can be procured when you write a blank check.

    covid-19

That's funny because usually the hardest working people tend to make the least amount of money while the laziest who have relatively easy jobs make the most.
  10. Great story, and I have the fullest level of confidence it will fall on death ears. None of what you wrote wasent already known months ago, but hey here we are anyway. Sometimes the hard way is the only way, but it sucks that other people have to die because of the lackadaisical attitude of some. I dont think we will get to 500k a day. maybe 200k at max. Eventually people are going to get scared and just stop going out. Call it a self-governed lockdown. Whatever happens, I have the fullest of confidence that we will be taking the hard lesson through the winter and when the spring dawns most Americans will personally know someone who died of Covid. This is why we need to bypass the lengthily testing for vaccines and just call it good enough at this point. For every single day we spend screwing around with more testing of the vaccines we lose more people that otherwise would have been saved. The vaccines have already been proven effective. We know they work. At this point it's more about 'writing the specifications page' for them than it is about actually figuring out of they work. Even if only 20% of Americans took the vaccine, that would still translate to over a million fewer infections come spring.
  11. It's called doing the right thing and putting the greater good above your personal interests. This is clearly something you dont understand by your own self-admission. Centralized, logical leadership in the pandemic will save hundreds of thousands of lives. Wives, husbands and even some kids, who will otherwise die at some point in the near future with a continued lack of any leadership in this pandemic. For all you know the life saved could be yours.

    covid-19

How long until we're at 150,000 a day? The really bad news is going to come in 3-4 weeks when deaths are topping 4,000 a day. All the money and effort we put into a 15 year war after 9/11 due to 2,977 deaths, yet Covid is going to be killing that many people per day pretty soon and we havent put in 1/4th the amount of effort into controlling this issue. I guess it's easy to ignore when its a virus doing the killing and not 'terrorists who want to kill Americans'.
  13. Living in a van gets very old after awhile. But it does save on money. It's a trade-off. I would not spend $24k on a van. Go to a different bank that will offer a loan on an older model.
  14. Whatever. Just use the cheap foamies. They work perfectly fine and they dont scam you into paying $300 to solve a problem that can be solved with 50 cents.
  15. It's hard to reach any other conclusion when you know that in a month 3,500 people per day will be dying for a preventable reason. That's more people in one day than during an entire 1 year period of the war in Iraq.
  16. We are now in the third wave. The third segment of the first wave within a series of waves. Or something like that.

    covid-19

99,300 new cases today. New, new record. Also the new news of the minute is that doctors are only diagnosing people with Covid to get more money. https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2020/10/donald-trump-doctors-covid-19-cash
  18. And here we have the definition of a snake oil salesman. It's interesting how people can be so naive as to support someone who's actually working against their best interest. But what can I say, people are gullible, dumb and lazy. They believe what's easy to believe and what sounds good.
  19. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/fauci-the-us-is-still-in-the-first-wave-160137351.html There you have it. we havent even hit the 2nd let alone the 3rd wave. We're still spinning our tires in the mud from the first storm.
  20. Sure, but prison is not about teaching lessons, it's about handing out consequences. If you end up in prison, the time for learning is long gone.
  21. You dont think negligence resulting in someone's death is severe enough to warrant prison? There arent many crimes more serious than that.
  22. play stupid games win stupid prizes. hold the parents accountable. your kid dies becasue he got a hold of your gun, you go to prison for negligent homicide. pretty simple case really.
  23. GMO / organic is mostly just a bunch of marketing bullshit anyway. Like organic, grass-fed, all natural, probiotic, Pasture-raised, Free-Range. These are all bullshit terms with no real meaning. Everything you need to know about how healthy a product is right on the nutrition label. Everything else is irrelevent. But here is a quick hint: if it comes in a box it's probably not healthy. Anyway, there is little evidence that consuming GMO food can harm you. At best it's unclear. I'd say judging based on how most people eat and their total lack of physical exercise, GMO is the last thing they need to be concerned about. It's like 'oh, my double cheeseburger, large fries and XL Coke is not organic and that's harming me!'. Yea ok.
  24. Pacemakers are more common than most people think and having bradycardia and getting a pacemaker installed is better than most forms of heart disease. Most people learn they have heart disease when they have a heart attack, but by then the damage is long done. In general, having a pacemaker shouldent affect your daily life much if at all. There are not really that many activities that I can think of that are unsafe with a pacemaker. I dont know why you couldent skydive or even BASE jump with one. The only concern I could think of would be the possible effect of a hard opening on the device.
