Freeryde13, Please do not mistake my own personal experience with the saber2 as advise in any way shape or form. It would have been better left out of my post. I didn't realize this was an advice forum, sorry my bad. I would be the first to admit had I followed the factory recommendations on wing loading, my transition to a performance canopy might have been smoother. While it is my opinion that making a wise choice on your first canopy/wing loading will stack the odds in your favor of making a safe progression, it is by no means a guarantee. blue skies jerry

Hi, the Saber2 is a great canopy and is a good first canopy for the aspiring canopy pilot. Two things to remember, no low turns, braked turns when low. No exceptions. I don't have a problem with your wing loading, I jumped a Saber2 190 at 1.3 starting at about jump 40 or so as my first canopy. And on the saber2 the issues to me aren't so much wing loading, but good judgment under canopy. People point their finger at the saber2 and think big docile canopy when the fact of the matter is, the saber2 is an entry level high performance canopy. If you want to learn to swoop then the saber2 is a good place to start if not than there are other choices out there. good luck. blue skies jerry

Hi, glad your ok. Someone should set down with the Individual and explain the basics of separation between sticks. If he knew he was doing something wrong and he thought he could get away with it ,he should be grounded. Just my 2cents. blue skies jerry

Hi Blahr, I've got 100 or so jumps on my saber2 190 loaded at 1.35. The saber2 is one of the sweetest canopys out there, the bottom end is awesome. The flare is two stage, you pull down on the toggles until you feel the canopy start to plane out, and than stop. You will swing forward under the canopy, when you feel the canopy start to sink as your speed drops off, finsh your flare. If you try to flare in one smooth stroke the canopy will pick you back up. Note: once you pull the toggles all the way down you're committed to landing hold those toggles down. Like wise stabbing the toggles has always produced a negavite results for me. The saber2 has a great flare, fly it all the way to the ground. blue skies jerry

Call Ralph at western parachute sales, if anybody were to have something laying around, this be the guy. good luck blues jerry

A saber 2 would work also, however at your size a 1.0 wing loading would work better. good luck! blues jerry

I like to do hop n pops as much as I like to go to full altitude. I prefer a 182 for the hop n pops because theres less forward throw. The really good guys hang from the wing by their feet, flip you the bird with both hands and than drop. We're getting our first week of rain, soon to be followed by months, so I'm looking forward to jumping the 182 this winter. If you haven't jumped a 182 I highly recommend the experience. blue skies jerry

7 cell steeper glide angle, better for accuracy, single stage flare. 9cell flatter glide angle, two stage flare. All the 7cell canopys I have jumped had a great flare and I always felt like I could drop on a dime. I jump a saber 2 9 cell canopy and it took me a few jumps to get the flare down and it has more forward speed. blues jerry
