Jumping out of Cessna with regular doors. Possible? Issues?
Ron replied to tecdady's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Remove the door or don't do it. It is difficult and risky if you don't know what you are doing. Plus, It would be very easy for the pilot to stall the plane trying to help/watch. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 -
How about this...They gave 170 million to charity in FY2004...More than any other American company. They take an active role in conservation. They Are the WORLDS largest employeer. Yes, they get goods from China....Guess what? Other companies do also. You just have a problem since they are so large, and do it so well. But they are also the largest seller of many DOMESTIC products as well. Heres a tidbit for ya....Some economists think that Wal-Mart is responsible for the reduction of inflation by as much as 1% BY THEMSELVES. 90% of the food stuffs sold in Wal-Mart is American...Almost 40 BILLION dollars worth. Wal-Mart has 1.2 MILLION workers. would you rather they be unemployed? 20,000 are IT jobs...Wal-Mart does not outsource its IT departments unlike Dell ect. Plus they are a GREAT ROI. Remember when Teresa Heinz Kerry was slamming Wal-Mart? Seems she owned about a MILLON dollars worth of stock. Over 850 Mutual funds are invested in Wal-Mart. Some of the largest mutual funds. Some more info : From How Cities Work by Alex Marshall: Several studies show that a Family that makes 20k a year will save 50.00-75.00 bucks a mth by shopping at Wal-Mart. 50.00-75.00 bucks a mth is a good chunk of change if all you make is 1666.00 a mth. So you still hate Wal-Mart?....OK how much more are you willing to pay to be rid of it? Think of the rise of inflation, higher unemployment, and the increase in costs of goods. Oh, and check to make sure you don't own a part of the company you hate so much. 1. Is every jumper like Kallend? No. We have even the good Dr. saying he depends on them. How much more proven do you need? If they person says they will not do something without an AAD that is in fact dependance. People going on dives above their skill level since they have an AAD and think they will be safe is good? No, by your own admission it is to dangerous for you. If you think that you will not pack well or that you must have an AADs ince you think you will fail in your emergency procedures it says TONS about how much you think the AAD will "save you" if you fail to perform. Look have a nice day. It is clear that you depend on your AAD, and that you like it. I see that as a saftey issue. You thinkthat buying one makes you safe. I hope you don't drink and drive since you have airbags. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

How about in this very post? I said: You read it and repeated it as: NEVER did I say that...But that didn't stop you from claiming I did. If you feel any skydive is too dangerous without an AAD, then you need to rethink your doing this sport. Cause if you will only jump with an AAD, thats like only driving in car that has airbags, only because you are afraid to drive in a car without them. Im done here...You either just can't get it and three different people trying several different ways just can't get it to you in a way that you can grasp, or are just doing this to argue. I tend to think its #2. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Not if the person is getting on big ways before he is ready, or doing more dangerous things (like diving harder) since they have one. No, it has always been about people using the AAD as "pass" to do more dangerous stuff. It has been said time after time that people WILL do more dangerous stuff if they have an AAD. True saftey would be to not do those jumps even if they have an AAD. Nope, never changed my stance...You just continue to misread it. You don't, but you have 3,000+ jumps. I have seen students go unstable on a main pull. Somewhere between 0 and 3,000 it might not be a problem, but I would bet a good number of folks would go unstable if they tried it. AAD's & Personal Acceptable Risk Thresholds
Ron replied to Hooknswoop's topic in Safety and Training
If you had stopped there...You would have been close. Its about RISK MANAGMENT. You think that just adding an AAD makes you safe and smart. Thats a fix for the symptom, not the disease. The first step is avoiding the dangerous situation. The safe skydiver avoids skydives where they need the AAD. Not just adding one and calling themself safe. AAD's are good things. Depending on them is not. Using them to go on more dangerous jumps since they make you feel safe is not. This is where you are wrong. It is not something I have ever said. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 -
And your post HELPED? He jumped my shit, I corrected him. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

OK I don't see your bitching then. If you can admit: 1. Some people rely on AAD's to get on jumps that are above their acceptance level. 2. These people are not "safer" since they are on jumps. 3. A jumper should never use an AAD to allow them to do more dangerous things... Then you have bitched for no reason other than to bitch. You have said time after time things you made up in your head as comming from someone else. If you actually read the damn thread you would see no ONCE did I say you sould jump without an AAD. I have said TIME AFTER TIME (that you ignored over and over) that if you think the damn jump is too dangerous without an AAD, then you should not go on it withone. Not ONCE have I said any of the crap you claimed I said. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

AAD's & Personal Acceptable Risk Thresholds
Ron replied to Hooknswoop's topic in Safety and Training
Well you got one thing correct. That is Bullshit. Just because you don't get it or maybe just being argumentative. (I'd bet on number 2) We have said it over and over...Maybe you need to READ the thread without the chip on your shoulder? Try actually reading the thread. The answers have been written several times. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 -
AAD's & Personal Acceptable Risk Thresholds
Ron replied to Hooknswoop's topic in Safety and Training
So do you drive more recklesly today than you did before you had airbags? "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 -
Maybe I don't want people thinking I said stuff I didn't say. Maybe you should relax since it has nothing to do with you at all, but you jumped right in and stuck your nose in it. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

True. But its not the same thinga s you have been claiming Then that dive is not above his level of risk tolerance....He instead chooses to increase the risk of the dive just because he has an AAD. Its kinda like drinking and driving because you have airbags. The benefit to not having one? Can't see it. However I CAN see the benefit of choosing your dives for saftey and not allowing an AAD to increase your risk level. You it seems are fine with doing risker jumps and depening on the AAD to make it safe enough to do. So ask yourself this who is safer? The guy that thinks 10way speed is too dangerous without an AAD but will do 10 way speed only if he has an AAD. The guy that thinks 10way speed is to dangerous without an AAD so he will not do 10 way speed, but does wear an AAD on dives he feels is safe without it. One person is using it as a back up...the other is using it to allow him to do more dangerous things. One has a back up, the other a dependance. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
-
If the risk is so high that you will only do it with a back up....Why do it at all? You have said that an AAD does not reduce the risk of an accident. Would not the smartest course of action to be to avoid the dangerous jump in the first place? It is really simple. If you feel the dive is so dangerous that you NEED a backup....Then why do the dive at all? If you do the dive only becasue you have the backup, you are in fact depending on the device to make the jump safe enough to do for you. If the risk is that high....why do the jump at all? And how would you be able to tell who from whom? Yep it might be too dangerous for him....And if Kallend is not willing to accept the risk of 10 way without the AAD...It just might be too dangerous for him as well. This is the third time I have asked this...Show me once where I said that. I have said don't go on skydives with an AAD that you think would be too dangerous without one. Seriously, you are missing the point and assuming I said shit I never said.....Find it.... "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Better to just teach either the pull strip method, or not to pull the reserve till you are free. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

You should be fine. The only problem would be high winds. They would make you back up....While not always dangerous, not fun. I started at around .59 wl. On windy (15mph) days I would back up....But not bad considering where we were. I have several hundered jumps on canopies around .75 to .80 for Demo training. Listen to your "I"'s and you will be fine. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Well, in this case I didn't not trust him...I just didn't know him. My mistake was allowing him to follow us out after he expressed and interest in joining us...I should have made him go first....But I was young (20 maybe) and had only about 200-250 jumps I think. I now know better, you learn for the stupid shit you live through. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Its MUCH funnier than you think. I only had about 300 jumps then. She was on my left and he was on my right. They were in a two way with my kinda just there holding on to her and his arms. Here we were we had quit tumbling but he was so fat...er I mean FAST, that he was dragging her and I down...She was almost like one of those freefly tubes above him. I tried like hell to get him to break his grip on her, but I could not do it all I could do was break the grip on my side and he kept trying to re grab it...We were starting to get low....so I decided to either dump her out or punch him...Well I didn't honestly think I could dump her out safely, so I swung at him.....An I started to slide out instead of hitting him, so I missed....I tried again, and as I started to swing at his face I blew back again. I grabbed her left arm with my left and took the center so they were on either side of me.....I held on to her and since he was now only about 4 inches from my right arm I punched him....All I could get was basicly a jab, but it was enough to startle him and make him drop his grip. As soon as that grip broke he fell away and he could not get back. So the funny thing is not that I punched him...But that it took three swings to land one. The student did quit...But not do to this. She saw how we all jumped this guys shit, and after we talked to her she did a few more jumps....But she dissapeared one day, like most students do. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Years ago at a distant DZ. I had a SL student going on her 45 second delay. There was a jumper with about 300-500 jumps over about 10 years on the load. He asks me if he can come with my student. I tell him no. (I always say no to people lurking my students, unless I *really* know the guy). Anyway this was thekind of guy that had been sorta jumping for 10 years. He made a few, then dissapeared for a few years and came back. He was so out of it he bought a new RW suit, but didn't get the grippers "cause they cost 10 bucks more". He acted pissed and told me "I have been jumping for 10 years!" I told him that while thats great, this girl was MY student. He got pissed since he was trying to hit on her. Anyway I tell him no to my student and I spot and we leave. As my student is trying to dock this dickhead comes in from above and takes me and the student out. BTW his JS was SKIN tight, and he was FAT. So he and her and now tumbeling, and he will not let her go. I am trying too break his grip on her, but he will not let go...So I punch him in the nose. He lets go, and I grab my studetn and backslide pull her as far away from him as possible and tell her to pull....She was so shaken up that I almost had to dump her out. I track zero lift and deploy low...I'm getting ready to kick this guys ass when he lands. As I am landing and dropping my gear a buddy Tom King walks up. He asks me why I am so pissed...I tell him and the DZO. Tom just walks off, while the DZO and the other "I's" tell me that they are gonna kick the guy off the DZ and they will handle it. Jackass lands and starts yelling at ME for hitting him. Tom walks up calmly with a big piece of poster boadrd with a bunch of squares on it. Down one side are numbers broken down into 20 jump increments. Ther are some names in the squares next to the numbers. Tom walks up and says, "Hey guys, I'm making a pool of what jump number (insert name) here bounces on, want in?" He then looks at Jackass square in the face and starts to ask him...Then stops himself, laughs and says, "No real point in letting you bet huh?" The guy left and never came back. AAD's & Personal Acceptable Risk Thresholds
Ron replied to Hooknswoop's topic in Safety and Training
I have had 6 cutaways. Yes, since it was the packing, not the canopy. I don't jump NOVA's, or Crossfire1's since they had problems due to the canopy design. No, if I didn't have a reserve I would have been dead My Malfunction rate is about 1/600. A little lower than "normal". I have done CRW. Yes, I would do it without a hook knife. Yes, if I must take a hook knife I would be hook knife dependant. I most times will not do CRW without a hookknife..So, I would in fact be hook knife dependant..Thing is I don't pretend not to be. Would I do CRW without a reserve? Nope. I would be messing with my LIFE SAVING device. I do not do CRW jumps with the idea that its OK to dock hard and reckless since I have a reserve. You are saying it IS OK to do dumber freefall dives since you have an AAD. Oh I think it is in fact smarter to have an AAD. Yes. OK so far you have one thought of mine correctly. Thats two. Who said I think its smarter to do it without an AAD...Please find me saying that. Lets try this. Answer this question for me...Since you got two right, lets try for three. If I thought a dive was to dangerous to do without an AAD...what would I do if I had an AAD? "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 -

FACT again FACT. If you had read his posts...including this one...Again FACT. Narci is not Muslim. But he feels that people are out to get this guy becasue he is not white. The similarity from "I am a second class citizen due to being gay" and "He is a second class citizen cause he is not white". Is very easy to see. It is a common thread with him. True. But "I'll not do that kind of jump without an AAD" does mean you are depending on it. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
