The local news account is that the person who first shot the terrorist was in fact an armed student at the seminary. Makes you wonder about concealed carry on campus, doesn't it? http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3516039,00.html 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

Ha! When you can't cite facts, resort to attacking the claimant. You should be a plaintiff's lawyer. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth -

Actually, they do. I don't know where you're getting your figures, since you never cite sources, but all the data I have found pretty clearly indicates that on-campus violent crime rates per 10,000 population are all significantly lower than the violent crime averages for the US. The fact that fewer are homicides and more are forcible rape have nothing to do with guns and everything to do with cherry-picking your demographics. The number of homicides among CCW holders is a fraction of the on-campus homicide rate. Does that mean guns make people safer? See, I can pick my demographics too. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth -

I did, in the same paragraph. Demographics. Wealthy, well-educated college kids commit less crime than people in the same age bracket who are under-educated, impoverished, and from socially-depressed areas. There are a thousand studies proving this, and you can google as well as I can. It has nothing to do with access to weapons. Stop cherry-picking responses to provoke people, you should know better. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth -

Depends on the state. In many states, there is no law against carrying on school property if you have a license to carry a concealed weapon. If he was in a state where it is banned, it's up to him to know that and behave accordingly. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

My Recent Fox News and CNN Appearances (Guns on College Campuses)
Clownburner replied to Douva's topic in Speakers Corner
It's a good point. Another thing to consider is that in the majority of the states allowing CCW, it is NOT against the law to carry a licensed and concealed weapon on campus. It does usually violate school policy, which will get you fired or expelled. Now, think about it. Regardless of the spurious arguments given here, if more guns caused more crime (in which case, by the way, all of mine are defective), the states that passed Shall-Issue CCW laws should have seen crime rates go up, right? Nope, didn't happen. We have almost 10 years of data from 40 states proving that. So, are CCW applicants more law-abiding then the general public? Doesn't matter - since only those approved, who pass a thorough background check and training, are going to actually be carrying weapons legally. People who know they won't pass a background check are unlikely to apply, but they really don't matter for the sake of this argument. Using campus crime rate statistics and comparing them to the general crime rate is misleading, as it doesn't accurately reflect the fact that 1) much violent crime on campus never gets 'officially' reported, and 2) saying that it's because of the lack of guns is making a huge assumption - namely that the campus 'rules' against guns actually reduce the number of guns on campus - which is an unproven assertion, and 3) assuming it has more to do with guns than with education and social background. Compare the rate of violent crime on campus with the rate of violent crime among 18-24 year-old people with college educations, and you have something to talk about. But you can't do that, because the rate of violent crime on and off campus is almost the same for the same social demographics. Comparing the crime rate at USC, for example, with the crime rate in the crappy neighborhoods right around it makes about as much sense. Let's all drop the straw arguments and look at the reality: Madmen prefer victims who won't fight back. What do you think the rate of school shootings would be if every campus in the country posted trained, armed guards at the entrance to every classroom? Gee, that's too expensive, and might make people think we lived in a police state. What if we trained and armed a small population of teachers, professors, staff, and older students who could pass an extensive background check, and let everyone know that some of the classrooms had legally armed people watching over them? Would that have a similar effect? I wonder. You can't make all the guns in the world magically go away. That's a fantasy. Banning guns doesn't reduce violent crime, that's been proven by experience. I'm not sure why some of you dispute that statistic but then say that because campus crimes are less often fatal than crack-house violence, it proves guns are the problem. Wishful thinking, maybe? I do know, however, that cowering under a desk, waiting for a madman to find and kill you, is unlikely to be the best way to prevent future campus violence. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth -
See http://skepdic.com/hotreading.html and http://skepdic.com/coldread.html You'd be surprised. Consider for a second that if just one psychic had ever been proven - just one ever -to have real supernatural powers, much of what we understand about science would have to change completely. Scientists aren't resistant to change - in fact they try to redefine our understanding every day - so why has this never happened? Why has no psychic ever been able to reproduce their results under controlled conditions? 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

How would you fix it? Put all the primaries on the same day, just like the general election. Plus, that way we don't have to keep hearing about it... let everyone vote at the same time and get it over with. That method has the added advantage of removing the huge political advantage that states like Iowa have in setting the national agenda. Candidates that bad-mouth ethanol don't last long in the primaries nowadays.. wonder why that is? 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

Assuming that by "TX400" you're talking about "Tri-X 400" by Kodak. No worries. It's the previous generation before TMax B&W films; the process is pretty much the same, but the older Tri-X will have more grain and less exposure latitude. If you're creative, you can use the extra grain for artistic effect. I always liked to print Tri-X on high-contrast paper for that "Film Noir" look. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

I don't see where it says he used a Glock. Any loaded gun will go off if you stuff it into your pants while holding the trigger. Criminals are mostly stupid, and very few of them spend time practicing gun safety or trigger discipline. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

In fact, it's been proven in court that the police do NOT have a duty to defend or protect individualized citizens. I'm perfectly willing to admit that people cannot die of gunshots unless there are guns. Are you willing to admit that no amount of gun control laws will affect criminals, since they are willing to break the law? The problem is that the guns aren't the cause of violence. That's like saying spoons make people fat. In Rwanda, when there wasn't enough guns or ammo for the slaughtering they wanted to do, they used machetes. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

Here's mine. Since it's impossible to completely prevent loonies and criminals from getting guns, I choose to arm myself rather than be an helpless victim. If more people made the same choice, the loonies and criminals wouldn't have such a huge advantage, and incidents like this one would become a lot less common, and the damage done would be much more limited. This particular shooting illustrates that beautifully: The madman in question shot up another church and killed many people; he entered another church intending the same harm and was stopped by an armed citizen. Yes, ideally no madman would ever be able to get or operate a gun, but that's an idealized world, not the one we live in. The UK has had extremely strict gun control laws for a long long time, and people there STILL go on shooting rampages. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

We'll see; the Church shooting appears to have been stopped by a CCW-wielding 'volunteer' security guard. Funny how the media just says "security guard" though, huh? 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

*Inserts "Get your head out of the clouds and face reality" remark.* Eventually you'll have to accept that criminals break laws. Throw more laws at them if you want to. The laws haven't solved the problem, and making more laws won't, either. Here' some reality: PS I didn't call for more laws. I called for uniform laws and for gun owners to take responsibility for the security of their own weapons. Hardly an unreasonable request; that someone who wants to possess a lethal weapon should take responsibility for it's security. That's already a law in most states. In California, you are required to keep your gun secure or you can face charges. Fortunately, there's an exception: If someone steals your gun during the commission of a crime (burglary, robbery, assault) you're not responsible. Thus, if I spend $1000 on a gun safe and someone comes along and gets the guns anyway while robbing my house, I'm not responsible. There's federal laws that require a background check before buying a gun legally, and it's already illegal to steal them. What about that, exactly, would you change? How would you make guns harder to get for criminals without making them harder to get for non-criminals? PS: Nice graph. Isn't it wonderful how you can make the data points fit any curve you like by leaving off the data points that don't fit? Where's Switzerland on that graph, again? I'm surprised that a professor would mistake correlation for causation. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

You may just need a replacement factory magazine - Nightingale's problem was a bad factory mag spring, which sounds like it may fit your symptoms too. If you're using uncoated lead bullets, try some copper ones like CCI Mini-Mag or similar. Sometimes the lead bullets don't get along well with the feeding mechanism, especially when new. I've not used a 10-22 but some guns take a few hundred rounds of break-in before they're fully reliable, depending on how tight the factory fittings are. I'd probably call Ruger and talk to them about it; they'll probably send you a new magazine under warranty to try. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth
