  1. I've done 2 week vacations in Europe with just a plane ticket, one carry-on suitcase and a Rick Steve's guide book. Had a great time every time. I had a list of places I wanted to see but no schedule or reservations. We try to travel off-season to avoid the crowds and high prices. Cool weather doesn't bother us Seattle-ites.
  2. Sounds like they made it just right. Tired of having my commuter mug tip out of those shallow cupholders when I took a fast corner, I made my own that sits on the floor, tall with a wide baseplate. It's a bit of a stretch to grab the cup ( I have long arms though) but it never spills a drop.
  3. I teach similar to that. The reasoning is absolutely correct. Some schools ignore body position during cutaways in their lesson plans. No panic, even though I was pretty excited (scared). I found my hands executing the EP's before my brain really caught up. Many people wonder the same thing before their first emergency and are pleasantly surprised to handle the real thing very well.
  4. Funny and true. Thanks for that.
  5. Not in my book. We used to do similar back in junior high.
  6. Glad to see you keeping up the mental rehearsal. While you're at it, spend some time visualizing the entire dive flow, from exit to opening. The mal thing? I know how you feel. I had my first cutaway (high speed) at 93 jumps. Amazing how easy it was to do after all that practice.
  7. I've done the same thing, with the same results. I tell FJC students that very fact when putting on or taking off their altimeters on the first jump.
  8. Gotta put in a plug for my home DZ. All AFF graduates at Kapowsin Air Sports are given a free, new Alti-3 altimeter, their choice of color.
  9. I had a Neptune reset to zero while doing a go around at 13K one day.
  10. I've done my share and more of home brew. You have to let the primary fermentation completely run its course, then add the correct amount of sugar for the bottling and secondary fermentation. I've never had any explosions.
  11. I was thinking this one looks pretty butch and I'm in the market for a new car. But we already have a little, fun car. I need something with good trunk space for beer, gear, shotguns, etc.
  12. Like I've ever done anything. Oh well, your issues. . . You'd be amazed at what it takes to get kicked off most dropzones. My wife is pretty well liked, I think.
  13. Ya got me. Nice, ambiguous sentence. Nope, it's me with the girl strapped on the front. I know you know who's who in that shot.
  14. Damn, that's some great prizes. When and where will the drawing be held?
  15. A slight twist on an old story. Thanks for posting and glad you didn't bite on it. Although I've sold a lot of gear on DZ.com directly to others with no problem, it's often recommended to use a local (to the receiver) dropzone or rigging loft as an escrow agent in these transactions. Many will do it for no to a small fee. Hey, the name Tyler Goshawk? Does that ring a bell for anyone?
  16. Congratulations. It ain't easy. Someday the very idea of it will disgust you and you'll stay quit forever, effortlessly.
  17. Here's me with my wife and son taking her sister on a tandem.
  18. From another old fart, I think the new fangled term is "dither around".
  19. I've always told students that PRCP jumps are tricky, because you're making a static line jump but pretending to make a freefall jump. I tell them not to try to be faster than the chute opening, but to ignore the canopy and finish the task of pulling their handle. But it doesn't count if they leave, arch, open, then pull. The canopy can't "wake them up", so to speak.
  20. Have you been remembering your old jumps? Have you been visualizing in your mind how the new jumps will go? If so, I think you're already remembering it.
  21. Tandem Master Ken doll, with Barbie strapped to the front.
