Thanks for the pic.

I'm glad I work in aviation. Yep, my friends in law enforcement see some stuff I can only imagine. It must be hard to keep a positive view of humanity some days.
-
wow, looks photo shopped
-
So . . . how do you come up with this stuff? Just sayin'

Naw, still a bunch of egotistical macho alcoholics doin' it. Thanks. We've been proud of him for years.
-
Thanks Doc. Like I said, the people like you that know Brett so well know how much we're gonna miss him. Hope you guys had a good day jumping. We had to play Dodge Cloud all day long.

Stuffy/Runny/Clogged Nose + Skydiving
JohnMitchell replied to Shredex's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I used to do a fair amount of woodworking in my garage and would get some of the same symptoms. Sudafed works well to open up and drain clog sinuses. It's also non drowsy so it's FAA approved while performing airman duties, so I figure it's okay to jump while using it. If your sinuses are really bad, stay on the ground. You can mess your head up with the rapid pressure changes of freefall if you can't clear your ears. -
Got My First High Pull In!
JohnMitchell replied to FlyingRhenquest's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
We had a sunset cross country jump like that at Lost Prairie. There were about 3 layers of scattered clouds all lit up gold and rose by the sun to our backs. The view was off the hook. Glad you enjoyed your sunset HP too. I feel bad that whuffos never see half the stuff we do. -
I never have, and I've loved every minute of it...We can be anything at any giving time but there will still be consequences. The other side of that coin is "Control your destiny, or someone else will control it for you." Very few great things come without preparation and hard work. Kallend's post makes a very valid point that the technology we enjoy, in fact take for granted, is the result of highly trained minds applying themselves.

At least 3" taller and almost 15 pounds lighter, yep, he's built to track. It took a few jumps for him to get it right, though. He kept bending too much at the waist and wanting to go head down. Tracking is one of the few things they can't teach in the tunnel. But he sure dialed it in on one of his jumps yesterday. I have video of me head up trying to keep up with him after he got a head start. The best part is that he's grown up packing and being around the sport. He's comfortable jumping but seems to have respect for it. I'm thinking he's not a candidate for becoming too complacent. He's already experienced a stuck altimeter and handled it just fine. If I hear him talking about downsizing and swooping I'll sic Mom on him. Bowling ball? Come on guys, I'm only 15 pounds over my high school weight.

My son Brett and I made 5 jumps today at Kapowsin Air Sports to finish up his A license. Although he made a tandem years ago and did AFF in two days, it's taken about 2 months to get the next 19 jumps. He can dive and dock great, turn points and track to the horizon and back. He's got almost all standup landings, quite a few in the peas. He's on his way to being a good, safe jumper. The last two jumps today he even coached me on my sit flying. Says I'm not doing too badly. Next month he leaves for Oklahoma City for 3 months training in his new job with the FAA as an air traffic controller. Then he'll be stationed in Salt Lake City. To say we'll miss him is an understatement. Those of you on DZ.com that know him know exactly what I mean.

I noticed that too, right when the plane started bouncing up and down. Freakin' one track minds, Sparky. That was borderline being a jerk but if he makes good on his promise they'll both have a great life together. I wish them the best.

Hey, you got any experience hunting these things? It might be fun to go shoot some with this winter.

We've enjoyed the shows because we empathize and even connect with the characters. The producers work hard to keep Sheldon likable on some level. Sooner or later all shows "jump the shark". I hope BBT has the legs to go on for a while. I enjoy their nerdy humor.

Good to know. And easier to pack out.

What? No one is going to say "Uranus"?

I heard feral pigs are a problem out west here too. Might have to grab a rifle and go get some.

Is a windtunnel worth it for AFF?
JohnMitchell replied to flytodeath's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My kid had a lot of tunnel time. He stuck every level. The only thing I could even start to show him something was tracking. -
Nope, that was long before students had throw out pilot chutes. Please, let's leave it standardized. An industrial psychologist will tell you that the human eye and brain process a green light faster than a red light but it's too late to change all the world's traffic signals and driver's training. A big fat index finger to the face seems to be pretty clear to a well trained student. PULL! If you need to point to something for an AFF student, use your whole extended hand. That works well.

How many skydives is too much in 1 day?
JohnMitchell replied to shibu's topic in Safety and Training
My personal record is 11 tandems in one day, packing most of them. I didn't, however, pack the streamer I had in the middle of that day. Depends on the weather and the demands of the jump. Some are pretty easy. -
We've all been around stupid people who think their ignorance is better than your knowledge. I don't get it. They wear their low IQ's like a badge of honor.

oooh, Vskydiver had a pair of red sweatpants from her gymnast days. Had her name across the butt and everything. Damn, she looked good in those. Yeah, I like 'em athletic, what ever they want to wear . . . or not.
