And it will hold almost what two twin otters will do. so not so cost effective, eh?
-
I remember seeing those in service. The Royal Thai Air Force has one that I got to jump from. Pretty cool.

>implying people actually spot these days Spot a little or walk a lot was how I learned. I should rent myself out as a professional spotter. I'm not too bad at it.

That's not marginal, that's Seattle. Shirley, you jest. Our smoker's on the back deck, somewhat out of the rain. I'm sure you know your deep fryer shouldn't be anywhere CLOSE to any flammable structure. BTW, we're smoking with apple/cherry/a-little-bit-of-alder. What do you and K use?

Merci beaucoup! You and your guy should come by our house tomorrow. We got a big turkey and all the trimmings.

That's good to know. I like an occasional DC-3 jump but I don't feel like paying nostalgia premium prices for it.
-
How many people do you intend to put out and who is spotting? Also, how will you relay spotting commands to the pilot? It's too far up to just yell.

I just read the text. I didn't look at any pics. And people say OUR hobby is strange.

Once I used a propane torch to warm up my feet inside my wet hiking boots. Yep, bad idea.

I think she's a QT, that's for sure.

Last weekend I used those little warmer pouches in my gloves. Wish I had started using those years ago.

Downsizing...how much is too much?
JohnMitchell replied to baRRRpirate's topic in Safety and Training
I'm guessing you meant BOC pockets being stretched out and pilot chutes slipping out? If so, yes, that's one of my thoughts. To me that means the DZ rigger needs to do a little maintenance on the rigs they're renting out to people. Bridle protection is very important too, but more a function of rig design and proper packing, IMO. -

My advice would be to not go higher than 1:1 wing loading under 100 jumps. -Buy your own gear? -Spend the next 67 jumps working on your belly skills? What makes your student gear unsafe for freeflying. I see our students in all kinds of attitudes, sometimes intentionally. If properly pinchecked and in good condition, most modern rigs will do for a little freeflying, won't they? -
All the best to ya. We need more instructors that like doing the job.

Thanks for that. I might switch the LFL webpage to a new home.

HD tivo is perfect for reading those. I'm sorry I missed so many in the past. I don't know if I could read an entire book of them. It might be like reading an encyclopedia of fortune cookies.

I could only take a quick look here at work. I'll check it out better when I get home.

As most of you know, Vskydiver and I run the Leap for Lupus charity. We're very proud that we're all volunteer and self funded. In other words, we pay all expenses (even event t-shirts) out of pocket. It's runs somewhere between 1-2K a year, but I'd be giving that much to charity anyway.

But I need to know NOW! That's why we have the internet!!!

2nd solo...my hands slipped...
JohnMitchell replied to Karen89's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It's only your 2nd jump, don't be too hard on yourself. -
Good job, and you did it in only 25 jumps. Congrats.

Wild wild place.... The Utah skydivers were a lot of fun.

I don't know who owns the name, but yes, I bet there is still a market for those. Some bakery could set up a line for those, maybe call them "Winkies" or "Twinkle Cakes". Personally, I haven't had a twinkie or ding dong in decades. However, I am a fool for Grandma's Fudge Chocolate Chip cookies in the vending machine at work.

Nifty "Science Friday" Wingsuit Video
JohnMitchell replied to FlyingRhenquest's topic in The Bonfire
Thanks for that. I love NPR's intelligent, dispassionate style of reporting. Such a contrast from many of the other "news" outlets.
