Sabre 280 Sabre 230 Triathlon 210 Triathlon 190 Hornet 170 i'm jumping the current canopy at 1.5 wing, i have intentions of downsizing into a stilleto, or a spectre 150 within the next 100 jumps, that'll put me loaded at 1.7, which is where i'll be for another 100 jumps or so, then i'll go to canopy control and learn how to screw myself into the ground! dude, avoid her like the plague. there's an old adage that i heard nikki sixx from motley crue recite once: "you can paint a trash can gold, but it's still a trashcan" no reference to your ex's demeanor or otherwise. i hate to admit this, but i'm 43, been married 4 times, i was ignorant enough to marry the 3rd one twice (we had kids) we divorced, (again, trust me, it's worse the second time around) and i swore off getting married, but then the "right" woman did come along, we've been married since 1987, and still going strong, so never lose hope, but don ever go back to see what's "behind door number one" either. **chances are, if you're at 1000' and you have line twists, there probably self induced by making "spiral turns" with your canopy** "probably" is the key word in this phrase, now i'm not going to take you back to high school english 101. in any event, the remark i made was due to the canopies i have personally witnessed in the last 2 1/2 years line twisted up due to (and i didn't want to say this earlier) students flying gigantic underloaded canopies and trying to "spiral" turn ther're canopies. have you ever seen this? and if you find yourself low, and your lines are all twisted up, and you deployments going to hell, and you've lost track of your altitude, what are the odds? **"Bush is trying to tie his personal religious beliefs about the start of human life into this"** religous beliefs, he has none, that's a "show" c'mon. if your religous, you certainly wouldn't want to break any commandments! (on purpose that is) let's see "thou shalt not kill" yep, that's one of em all right. but that's another topic for another time, i have a son in the military right now. but getting back to dwubya, jeeezzz, i hate admitting to this, but i voted for him, well, what other choice of fools did i have? sometimes a man's gotta do, what a man's gotta do! **I practice my emergency procedures before my jumps......I will cuttaway a malfunctioned canopy if I need to, I just do not want to make something simple into something worse.** Tiff: this is exactly the response i'd hoped for! good girl! take care, be safe. chances are, if you're at 1000' and you have line twists, there probably self induced by making "spiral turns" with your canopy, i've seen this on various occasions, and luckily, each time the jumper has kicked out of them, and landed uneventfully. the reason i make the remark about self induced line twists at 1000' agl, is because if you have twists at 1800', why ride em down to 1000'? have a hard deck, initiate emergency procedures if the need arises. and try to not make any "spiral turns" under 1000' just for this very reason. these are just some thoughts, no rules "carved in stone" experienced canopy pilots can pull theses things off without a hitch, but never "overestimate" your own abilities, especially if your just off of student status. **I have never chopped before.** Tiff: you've made this statement 3 times during your post(s) on this topic. i'm going to go out on a limb here and say your more worried about cutting away than a partial malfuntion of your system. when you continue this sport (which i hope to see you do, soon) do not jump, if there is a single doubt what you will do if you need to. unwillingness to cut-away has caused a lot of "incidents" remember, try once, try twice...cha-chink Richard "If I Actually Knew What I Was Doing, Then, I'd Be Dangerous"

your conception of business practices may raise a few eyebrows, but only to those down the chain. i've been in the petroleum industry all of my adult working life, and i gaurentee you, you'd better be wearing a flak jacket ALL the time, not so much of fear of being shot, but to keep the daggers from penetrating your back (especially when it's turned) dog-eat-dog, every man for himself, you have to stay in "survival mode" 100% of the time. OTOH, i, personally am "lone wolf" in my profession, i have seen men steal twice in one day what they make in a day, i seen free trips, golf games, guys on the "take" free whisky, free beer, free women, free drugs, you name it, i've seen it, it'z WAY fukked up. everybody that knows me in my profession says "man, i sure wished i had your job so i could drive a new car and truck all the time" i just tell them, believe me, you DON'T want my job. at the end of the day, every man/woman has GOT to know the're limitations, what they will and/or will not do, and mosy of all, ya still have to be able to sleep well at night. i can honestly say (and i've lost a few jobs because of this) "i've NEVER taken anything that doesn't belong to me, ever" imagine being canned because your boss knows, that you know he's on "the take" and you won't go along with it, so you get canned, to keep you from letting "the cat out of the bag" yeah, you don't want my job, trust me. this kind of puts everything else into perspective, doesn't it? that is one funny show! i've been following ozzy's (john) antics for years. even during black sabbath days, i've seen him in concert various times, once while in houston, he was throwing raw liver into the "mosh" pit! this guy is zoning, but i love him! while i'm in total agreement that sky diving is an extremely dangerous sport, i also advocate that it can and is being performed in general by individuals who try there level best to be as safe as possible. there are the exceptions, that's what makes us look silly from time to time. having said that nascar is an extremely dangerous sport, can it be perfromed safely? i saw more wrecks on the track yesterday in fort worth than i knew what to do with! we simply have to realize the ever present danger, do not become complacent, and attend drop zone training days when they offer them. yeah, hell yeah, it's dangerous, but it can be done safely. just my .02 USD. **As far as why an alternative wasn't used? Well, the WTC was built back in the 70s and at a time when asbestos was suddenly made illegal. So my guess is there weren't any real alternatives available at the time, or perhaps they weren't sure what structural implications the alternatives would have.** all the manufacturers who maybe could have provided the material more than likely declined, afraid they'd be sued in the future, in case it didn't work if something happned. unfortunately sports like x-games, and the like are dominating todays head lines, i'm sure redbull (since it is dubbed a high energy drink) is playing off of this. they want everybody to think if your involved in an extreme sport the're drink can take you to the next level of your danger potential. who knows anymore. i'm really surprised we don't have canopy comercials on t.v. targeting the sky diving community, i bet if they did, our fatality rate would increase threefold in the first year.
