please listen to the experienced voice of BillVon on this one. how long you want to skydive anyway? think about it. if it wouldn't have been for a friend of mine, i would have made a fatal canopy selection not long ago, but after listening to his advice, i changed my mind, and i'm glad i did. there are upsides, and downsides to audibles, upside being (for me anyway) not having to write every jump down, you can do them all at once at the end of the day, you'll have a way better handle on what body position gives the most/less speed, you have a way better handle on exit, deployment altitudes. downside (for me anyway) when i was under a 100 jumps, i used to look at my altimeter every 5-6 seconds, and lock on at 3500' or so to pull at 2500', i've forgotten my altimeter on one jump, i jumped anyway because i thought "what the heck, i've got an audible!" plus i know what the ground looks like at 2500' (i know, i know) and the audible has made me complacent about my altitude awareness, i've found myself exiting at 14,200 before, and taking it to 7K before checking my altimeter. i have been making corrections for this. i've kicked myself more than once for relying on it, but i like it. one more upside to it, if you want to hear it, you have to wear a helmet, which i hate to wear, i love jumping without one. but the last jump i made, my helmet saved my life...no joke. but generally i'd say, if ya got the bucks, by all means sir, get one, just don't become reliant on it, it can be done. --Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"

Dear Yuppie SkyDiver # 0008: you are hereby commanded to go and jump, and say "to heck" with other priorities and have fun! i'd go with you, but i'm in Saudi right now. remember the old adage: "Forgiveness Is Easier Than Permission" have fun, my best to you and your family as always.

whatever happened to the doors from the series Star Trek? they had an electric barrier surrounding the frame, and unless your were authorized to come into a certain area, you go the s**t shocked out of you! this would take guns out of the cockpit, and keep the holligans away as well. i fly trans atlantic twice a month, and the wierd thing is, everytime we board the jet, we pass right by the cockpit, and can see both pilots doing their preflight, and i have yet to notice any extra locks on the cockpit doors. by the way, this refers to northwest, and duth royal klm airlines, i can't speak for others. i can see where the people in coach never knew what happened that fatefull day on 09/11. --Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"

i'm in agreement with paul's theory here on this one. continuity is condusive to life longevity! i would and will be changing containers for my second rig, but my reserve, and mains will be very similar, and i'll stay with boc and zp pc/kill line. although i almost made a horrible decision a while back until i was talked out of it by some intelligent folks, thanks, you know who you are. --Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"

i got pulled over by the highway patrol the other day coming home from brenham, texas. the trooper wrote me a warning ticket for "not dissplaying front liscense plate" am i missing something here? this is the 5th vette i've owned, and NEVER have i had a front liscense plate on any of them, in fact, they come with an insert that says "Corvette" on it. and the first ticket i've got for something like that, i thought he was nuts! --Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"

i just got to thinking, no body has been retrieved, not to say one won't be. let's say he wasn't on the plane at all, maybe he fled to avoid prosecution? either that, or he was dead before he got into that cockpit and was thrown out? it is impossible for the pic to not have been aware that he was bailing out, if in fact he did. let's say he did jump out, would it be possible for him to not disturb any pedals, or the yoke? i think not, if he did bail, he was assissted in one way or another. the more i learn, the more possibilities emerge. --Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"

yeah, i'm fairly bummed as well. got up at 02:45, and am still up. observed the skies continueously to no avail, clouds, i saw one stinking flash. oh well. maybe next time, oh, that's right, i won't be alive! --Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"
-
ah, the plot thickens! "did he fall, jump, or neither?" WHAT? i still ain't "biting the hook" that the pic didn't know when/what was going on, ain't buying it. then again, could a guilty conscience really drive a man "over the edge" like this? if the theft is what drove him to suicide, whether assissted or not, (and i believe he had to have been) he's still a candidate in my opinion. hope he did a really kewel headdown, or tracking sky dive! --Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"
-
with, or without jump doors? the news reported tonight that this incident is under investigation, because they do not believe the squirrell that jumped could have jumped without the pic knowledge or support. stay tuned, i believe the jury's still out on this one! life insurance? screwing his old lady? provacative questions/thoughts to say the least! --Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"

Is a Cobalt safer for big way jumps?

i'm in TOTAL agreement with this statement. it does kind of take the mystery out of it though! -
not to be insensitive, and it takes me a lot to be sarcastic, but doesn't this qualify him for a Darwin Award? hell, guess it beats falling off a ladder? too bad for the ol' fella, guess the strain was more than he could bear. --Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"
