They asked her about that in the interview and she said that after the 7th book there would be no more. The interviewer pressed her on it and said that he thought people would like to know what happened to Harry after he left school. Her comment on this was something along the lines of, "Who says he'll still be alive then?". I *think* she was just saying that because she laughed afterwards, but who knows??? Vicki

All my very best vibes to both you and your dog. Dogs are such special members of the family and it's so painful when you can see that your best friend isn't well. Golden Retrivers are so beautiful - I hope Honey is ok. Vicki

I agree - the innocent Harry, with no knowledge of his background or the wizarding world who we nmeet at the start of book one grows up very quickly. It is a loss of innocence, but with each book we also see him grow in knowledge and strength. Increased danger and loss of innocence = some quite dark/sinister storylines. There was a fascinating interview with J K Rowling shown on BBC2 last week - I don't know if it has been shown outside of the UK or not. She said that she expects book 6 to be pretty short and that she will tie up all the clues that she has been leaving throughout the series in book 7. And yes! She also said that she has written the final chapter of book 7. They also showed (but obviously from a good distance) the piece of paper in which she had planned out her story and chapter plans for each book. I bet a few people would like to get their hands on that...! Vicki

I've just finished it too. It was excellent and very well written but I thought that the ending was a little bit bland compared to the last book. Still a fantastic read though, and I am looking forward to book 6... Is it just me, or are the storylines becoming more and more sinister? I think if I had read book 5 when I was a kid I would have had nightmares! Vicki

Happy Birthday!

I'm so sorry to hear that, I have had dogs all my life and losing them is awful. Vicki

Nowhere! I REALLY need that new rig more! But I have already booked my flight for the Eloy Holiday Boogie! Vicki

I might be wrong on this, but my understanding is that the Pro Track does not log a jump unless you delay for 5 seconds or longer – this could explain some of the strange readings for hop and pops. Vicki
-
It's not a problem though, if it gets too windy there are always the go-karts or the bars !! Enjoy, Vicki
-
Watch out for those jump limits! I am usually happy up to a 200 jump limit there. When it gets up to a 400+ jump limit, a lot of the staff and locals with lots of jumps stop jumping. Vicki

I'd second that. The DZ can get very windy and the winds can, and quite often do, change 180 in the middle of the day. Vicki

Check out their website www.skyrats.com which has all sorts of info on getting there, where to stay etc. It's a beautiful DZ with fantastic scenery and excellent facilities. The beach and town are only a couple of miles away and the night life is excellent. The only draw back is that it can get quite windy. Having said that, I was there in early August last year and had absolutely beautiful weather. Vicki

I certainly agree about replacing the elastic - I am now on my third piece! Re-threading the elastic into the helmet is a real pain so I got some pretty thick stuff last time and it has held well so far. I've never heard of anyone losing their Z1 on opening - in fact I find mine to be a realy snug fit. I don't have my excess on the chin strap sewn either, but that seems like a good idea. All in all I love my Z1. Even on the very coldest winter days in England it never mists or ices up (it did once on a very cold - minus 36!!! - night jump, but that's another story altogether...). On hot summer days, I can easily get it open under canopy. In fact, I can get it open easily even when my hands are frozen! As for sizing though, yes I think the sizes are a bit smaller than other helmets on the market. I love my Z1!!!

I have known balloon jumps to happen at Empuriabrava Christmas boogies. I'm not too sure about anywhere in Britian. Headcorn managed one balloon lift about a year ago but as far as I know there has been nothing since. hth Vicki

I guess I am pretty picky about packing – I always use a packing mat of some sort unless I’m packing on carpet. I’m often accused of being “too neat” when I’m packing but I’m not sure that such a thing is possible! I can pack in about 10 minutes without sacrificing neatness, I get pretty reasonable openings (even from a Sabre!) and that’s good enough for me! Vicki

I agree with you Ron - something has to be done about this problem and it seems that regulation is the only thing that will get through to some people. No of jumps: 836 Wing loading: 1.2 Vicki

Presumably the same could be true in the event of a horseshoe malfunction? Vicki

It was once suggested to me that it is worth, when under canopy (obviously after making sure airspace was clear) that I try reaching for the base of my container, where my BOC handle would be if I ever had a horseshoe. I have tried it a couple of times and it is surprising how much the bottom of your container has moved once the canopy is out. Vicki

Regarding not becoming reliant on audibles, I was given some great advice about this a couple of years ago. I was told to aim to hear the beeps just after starting to break off and to think of it as it saying, “well done, you were altitude aware”. I therefore purely think of my audible as a back up. For the record for 8 ways and smaller my warnings are set at 4,000’ (break-off), 2,500’ (pull – I am aiming to hear this after I have actually pulled, but in reality if I do f*ck up and hear this in freefall, it is not too late to get my Sabre open for 2,000’), 1,800’ (flatline – I have never heard this one but if/when I do I know it means do something NOW!) At a DZ, above a DZ - either way I'm happy!

I've condidered getting my rig changed to pullout but the thing that really puts me off is that I get extremely cold hands in winter and don't much like the idea of not being able to get a good enough grip on the pad. Also I've seen the old floating pad - reserve ride scenario several times. I'm happy enough with BOC and have never had a problem with it so can't see any good reason to change it.

If you have ever rode the plane down...
vt1977 replied to gatorbait's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have done so several times - nearly all because the winds have picked up on the ground and the whole lift has been brought down. Doesn't really bother me as I hate jumping in strong winds and would really rather not have to land my canopy in them if I can possibly help it. Just one of those things I guess. Vicki -
I guess in a way skydiving is a way of life. I started jumping at 16 and can't really imagine not jumping but after 9+ years in the sport I need to have the odd weekend away from the DZ and I quite enjoy doing other things. Thsi is particularly true in the cold winter months! But when the skies are blue and the sun is shining I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be that a DZ.

What do your parents think of your skydiving?
vt1977 replied to andy2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Totally, totally cool with it! My Dad gave up jumping in (I think) 1968 and he bought me my first jump for my 16th birthday! He has been very supportive of my skydiving throughout the 9+ years I've been jumping. Vicki
