  1. This is called, "instinct" It has come in handy for me after a jump or series that I realized... "I'm done for today, my head isn't in it." The other but more troubling is on (one or two) occasion somebody has asked me, "hey, did that scare you?" [in effect] meaning it should have, well same result, "i guess i'll call it a day" So what actually crosses my mind I have come to theorize isn't what is more troubling than what doesn't. Because its what I don't know or am not paying attention to that is likely to make me hurt or worse. . -- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!!
  2. I seem to have the same recollection, of the Bro who burned in on the pond last summer [June] it was a PR nightmare for Roger. He was making all kinds of statements in the papers defending the dz for months until the final toxicology reports came in. Tragic in a sense, because the facts were (as reported) that the presence of drugs; Extassy and [others] were found in our brothers system. I don't think I missed anything in the thread? but the guy at Rantoul got snagged by a helicopter, reports were that he had been warned to stay away on at least one prior occasion as he was attempting to video/photograph the flights? I don't even know if he was even a jumper? Anyway my thoughts on these incidents whether they are accurate or relevant to the references already made, are that the helicopter victim would have appeared to the general public to have been on drugs for his reckless persistence? In the swooping incident, statements made shortly after the accident suggested that the Bro was not skilled/experienced enough to be doing a swoop on a pond of SDCs configuration (steep sides and obstacles). When drugs come up in relation to some incident it screws up everything. It really shouldn't even be a factor so I understand and respect attempts to improve public image. Dzs don't make it important... incidents do. . -- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!!
  3. OK, so I see a lot of new people around here and I am still interested in collecting data on this subject.... so Thanks . -- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!!

    TRV 19

Bro, I love that 19!!! will it fit in where me pc10 used to be, it looks fat? . -- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!!
  5. Interesting of course; I like the idea of holding some damn meteorologists accountable. But perhaps the more agnostic approach of strapping mother nature naked to a bed and tickling her into submission might be more practical? BTW< where is that bitch??!!? (my bet; a lot South of here!!) . -- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!!
  6. Man,, 'cause you can! all you have to do is give 'em your $$, they give you a parachute (they almost always work) , the plane ride is free. woo-woo why would anyone want to go whitewater rafting? I mean, what is the point? unless you get off the river everytime you finish the rapids... carry your raft back up the hill and then do it again, and again, etc... Ugh, sounds like a lot of work to me. Packing is a lot easier!!! ...and you don't have to get wet! . -- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!!
  7. Yes, SDC. Drug and Alcohol; starting this year. - how do you test for alcohol? as a screen; like for drugs?? (other than obviously a breathalizer) . -- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!!

  9. Can you take a few days off?? Come hang out w/me for a few days, I got extra rooms, I'll pick you up at the airport. You can use my car, hit a few local dzs / museums/shows whatever... . -- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!!
  10. I guess I just dont get the point? I'm wondering that if you don't like the idea of waking up with a coyote; bite your arm off?!? yeah? If you want good conditions in Eloy best to get there early? If you gotta stay on the dz and ride a silly skateboard till you get tired, super! You meet the most awesome people in night-life!!! If you want to surf and jump, why not just go to Sebastian? The surfing sucks in Eloy (or so I hear) It would be like having your two favorite darlings and have to decide on one in Sebastian. Besides the trolls are hungry for fresh meat and they will devour you at night in the desert... . -- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!!

Five minutes??!!?? Was that all it was, really? I promise! (quote me) I'll let you know. I'll be back in October. But til then; Eloy in May, Rantoul in August and Chicago area/WI (and maybe MI/IN) the balance of this summer season.
  13. My only problem with that is that my car is back at the DZ!! ...and I can't fly myself back to pick it up. . -- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!!

Words alone cannot even capture the true depth of how meaningful it was to meet you in person! Not only are you gorgeous but I found you to be an exciting person of wit, intellect and sincerity! WOW; what a package. I apologize for disappearing (musta been free-beer or food or something going on??) --but I was there almost everyday for almost three weeks... anyway... lol!!! I met some awesome dz.commers, (thanks for pointing out Ray!!) Chuck and Ray are two guys I would consider it a priveledge to call new friends! I have been wanting to meet Chuck for years! Which brings me to two last points. One, that I have enjoyed tremendously that this site (the people) has comforted and challenged me by giving me a place to hang out. Whether I just 'listen' or 'chime-in' ; it's somewhere I feel comfortable. I can't please everybody all the time, but dialogue/debate with skydiving brothers/sisters on infinite topics is exhilarating!!! Second, that I'd rather be jumping and hanging out in-the-flesh with people... so if I disappear (again) just know that my heart lives here with all of you and that I am close in spirit. So, when we hook up somewhere lets have a jump ar a beer!! . -- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!!

  17. Disclaimer: I will not argue with anybody the issue of lift and efficiency being in direct correlation to speed. I have two concerns, regarding your question, that relate to lift and efficiency that seem inherent to your objective of increasing swoop distance. Please be mindful that there are countless variables. The first is that not all canopies will 'swoop' the same. I have some modest experience under a Samurai and a (early) Jedei. None under a Jonathan. This might be better a, "How to squeeze perfomance out of a Jonathan from a 90 turn @ 1.3?" Because your recovery arc sounds verry modest in comparison with the Samurai and more so to Jedei; 1st Method would not be desireable... Or for that matter a bad habit to develop on canopy skill development. I could elaborate, but suffice to say, assuming your talking about 'front' riser input you are diving the leading edge, as opposed to if your talking about 'rear' riser input you're dragging the trailing edge. The leading edge dive requires more input to correct; timing/sensing/feeling is critical. which brings me to concern #2. My objective in achieving a safe execution of a performance generating turning maneuver is to relate the idea of canopy manipulation into the pendulum concept. A 90 may always be a "short" swoop for you on that wing? The reason may be that 'short' is relative or it may be that you're missing it's sweet spot? Do you have the most ideal shift in your straps for that wing/harness? Are you in headwind too long before you catch the crosswind? Can you feel where in the pendulum you're at when you hit bump or flare height? The importance of being keenly aware (from experience) of its recovery arc, suspended weight position in the pendulum and angle of attack cannot be understated! The well executed 90 may be all the performance somebody may ever desire for themself under a given canopy. I'll close with saying that smooth inputs (even if fast) are never "quicker" because "quicker" sounds wayy too much like 'jerky' 'guessing' or 'OH-Shit!' The, "more efficient way to do things" in skydiving/swooping should always begin with the question of where may the waste occur? Or better yet, "How can I avoid getting wasted?" . -- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!!
  18. Hi Michele. I thought since I might contribute to this particular question; though it seems resolved just the same by now. Or by whom...? I think it would be safe for those otherwise inclined to pursue illegal activities to think of cops as entrepenuers, trying to drum up 'business.' And not neccessarily by their own agenda (paper work for petty shit is stupid!) unless it serves some other political/social purpose. Using *Quincy as an example, there were deliberate political mechanisms that influenced not only the police presence, but the manner of the police presence. I have heard from many that the conspicuous police presence was most uncomfortable. Why? who's rights did police violate by simply demonstrating a presence? It wasn't the cops that refused WFFC, it was the city gov't. (I use the term 'refused' loosely because $$ talks; except with Turkey) Lous points should be taken kindly. Reason; Media exloitation. Ropers, etal, jumper safety. I was saddened to hear about the death of a guy shot by police a short while back who had fought and run from police [in Texas?] headlines, "Sydiver shot by Police" Drugs, blah, blah... (or whatever the exact quote was...) I just hate bad press and we as a community should stay focused on what we're all about and that using skydiving as a political platform to declare opposition to laws is unreasonable. Because, if we want to skydive nekkid, thats one thing... but if jumping wasted is so important to some, go start your own club somewhere and do bongs with your pilot on your way up to alt. bye..... see ya'll in the incidents or police blotter. * {brain-fart 'Rantoul'} Sorry -- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!!
  19. I will make it clear that my opinoin is borne in cynicysm, which is why i/I feel it is important to acknowledge, the similarities I identify between Law Officers and Politicians/Legislators. Law Officers, in this point,[Police], are not as concerned about your rights as you are! No matter what they tell you. They are trying to to the job the best they know how, usually, but every officer has an agenda. Just like the legislators that pass these assinine laws, expecting the judicial system and law enforcement to, 'tie up the loose ends.' When abuses by police of citizens civil liberties are revealed they generally unviel deeper and darker historic systemic values within that particular organization. But I just close with the comment about/against the individual perpetrators. We all have an individual responsibility to declare what is right, moral and proper. We all have the right to try to make clear to those that seek to subdue our freedom of speech and liberty, that we will not be silenced or suffocated by selfish motives. If alone one voice has resonance, many resound together to sing, if not to our brothers, then to Heaven, the cries for freedom and equality. blah, blah.... -- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!!

  24. The Checker right up the road at the plaza is a great place to catch an inexpensive fashioned crap burger or something, no offense, but it beats slim-fast, and ramen for hunger cravings. Buy a loaf of bread and some peanut-butter.
