Greetings.. I was on the GSR in 2011 (the only foreigner I believe). I was on the actual record jump and not the second one which was done to satisfy a USPA requirement. The only photo I have been able to locate is the second jump. I would like to get a copy of the first record jump. Can anybody out there help (Spence, Fortson?). So what all do you need to get your A CoP? I take it that it is more than just the exam. Can you get the necessary jumps done before you leave? Also, ask around at your local DZ. There might be an instructor going down there at the same time who would help you with the necessary jumps/training/endorsement and you could get qualified while down there. I am not sure how it works in the States but I am a Certificate Administrator (now called Skydiving School Examiner) in Canada. The are certain types of jumps, degrees of accuracy etc that are required for different license levels. If it ain't written in a log book it didn't happen and if it wasn't signed off by a person with the correct CoP or rating it doesn't count. Log em all. Put in the details that you may need for future ratings. If you think you won't want to be a coach or instructor or tandem master, or big way jumper, then by all means don't log. Hi.. Unless you have a CSPA Certificate Administrator in yer arse pocket when you go to Perris you will have to join USPA and follow their training program for the necessary licenses (CoPs). If you come back home with a bunch USPA sanctioned licenses you will have to convert to our system or remain in the USPA system which means you don't have insurance and can't take CSPA rating courses. It can be a bit of an administrative hassle to convert back and forth. Lots of people have memberships in both and plenty have converted their ratings (AFF-PFF for example) but to start out at you level might be biting off a bit much. If you are going on the Invasion, contact some of the gang (who are going) first and arrange to get Canadian stuff done in the States. Some Instructors and CAs don't mind doing student stuff while at a Boogie, some won't. Do you homwwork now while you can so come January you have a locked in plan. So.. Here I sit, in a big tent in Resolute, Nunavut.That's around 74 degrees, 42 minutes North of everywhere. It is 1 degree C and there are a few light flurries coming out of a very low ceiling. The nearest tree is thousands of kms away. We sleep in tents, eat in tents, shower in tents and shit in tents. When you get up in the middle of the night to go to the can you have to get fully dressed and walk 100 meters. You can't just sneak out at night and take a pee by a tree because there ain't no trees and it never gets dark. There is a fleet of twin Otters parked 100 feet away from my place of work as well as a helicopter and and at times, Hercs, C-17 Globemasters and DC 10s, and I don't have a rig and they don't have jump doors. I need a freakin skydive real soon or I am goin out to wrestle a polar bear (or a muskox..whichever is handy). Other than that I am havin a great day. I had to get that out of my system. Hi fellow Canadian.. What gives with "stuck"? You get "stuck" when you are held up going from A to B (like on the way to NZ you got stuck in Australia because you wuz broke). It is amazing how different armys/countries look at things like this. In Canada (in the Armoured Corps) we wore berets in the field all the time. So called combat hats were looked on with disdain and used for fishing only. The black beret was a mark of pride. Dusty and smelly though they were, we wuz proud. They were also easier to wear with a radio headset. Now we wear a floppy wide brimmed combat hat in the field and we look just like the #@&** infantry. Gimmee my ol black hat anyday. Yeah, what Bunky said. You have to check out the most current rules for any given company. I have dealt with a half dozen different ones over the years. The reason I changed coverage so many times was because they keep changing their rules. The part about "competing and professional jumping" is fairly common. It's about time the authorities sorted out this terrible use of music as an avenue to promote hate. Now I think that all they should have a big protest (perhaps just prior to the next Gay Pride Parade) out in front of every library in the country. I am sure there are a few things written in some of those evil books that go against somebodies rights. They could break in, take all the bad books out and burn them in the streets. And if the library staff didn't conform, they could break all the windows in the librarys, and all the windows at the library staffs homes. There would be glass every where.
