Born and raised and live on 14th and Seventh. STAY in Times Square you will LOVE it...you're a tourist! AND, you won't pay that much more than anywhere else in the city. Go on HOTWIRE, you'll get the BEST deals there...trust me on that and ANY hotel 3 or 4 stars will be great--spend the extra and get the 4 stars. Here's a subway map, you'll need it. Also, staying in Times Square is SO convenient with access to all the other subways. Take the subway to Yankee stadium--per Daizyes instructions. And have fun on the double decker tour (the downtown one) it's only like $34/per person for the day--don't do the $94 dollar thing...that's a waste...and there's better things to do. You'll love the double decker, it's really informative and you see a LOT in a short amt of time AND you can hop on/off anywhere! PM me if you want to chat offline. -Crystal

Hi fellow skydiving friends... Just wanted to make you all aware that those 2 fuzzy characters on the cover of your April Parachutist are from a shoot I produced for MTV2's new show Wonder Showzen which premiere's Friday, March 31st at 9pm Eastern time on MTV2. I think a LOT of skydivers will LOVE this show. It's pretty raunchy though...It's like Sesame Street on crack with Dave Chappelle humor. You can check out first season episodes on mtv2.com under shows...I'm sure someone can find the link. The episode that has the skydiving segment in it will air next Friday April 7th! You'll want to use Tivo...as it goes by pretty quickly! I designed the costumes, and had a fun time producing, consulting and making the whole thing happen for the MTV peeps...mucho credit goes to the jumpers from the Ranch...Sonic, Oren and Leland!) -Crystal

So I'm out of town for 3 weeks so haven't gotten my mail...and apparently this month's cover is a still from the shoot I produced for MTV2's Wonder Showzen. Can anyone PLEEEASE scan it in and post or send it to me? Please send to csanchez77 at aol dot com THANKS SO MUCH! You can post it too...and I'll post once I get it! -Crystal

ranchgirl replied to ranchgirl's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Hey, I'm thinking about jumping at Skydive Venezuela right after New Years! The ad in Parachutist sold me! Tropical weather in January! $13/jumps!!! I'd love to meet up with some fun people there...anyone know anyone who might be there then? Let me know!!! I'd like to get in touch with a few people there before I leave. :) Crystal I put my flight on hold today! I'm very excited about it all now! -Crystal -

Some guys I met at Elsinore 2+ years ago who are helicopter pilots in the Brittish Army are coming to New York City for the St. Patricks Day weekend...and I'm going to party w/them tonight to ring in St Patty's day at midnight...and then go with them to the parade on Fifth Avenue, (then get a haircut at 2pm, and meet w/my accountant at 5pm to do my taxes) and THEN continue PARTYING!!! -Crystal

Hi Mandy...I love you! See you in LA sometime soon! I'll miss you at the Brazil Boogie! -Crystal
-
Anyone else going to the Brazil Boogie on dz.com...I hear there are only like 15 people registered from the US, but they expect like 150-200 Brazillians, Europeans, S. Americans, etc. It should be fun...Oh, I'm getting psyched! I'll take some more pictures there too...(maybe this time I should charge, I'm thinking I can make some money with this!) LOL Anyone BEEN to the www.Brazilboogie.com before? Squeak said it has a good reputation...I've wanted to go since I heard about it 2 years ago...and now I'm actually going...YAY! -Crystal
-
Hi Serenity! Thanks for all the compliments girls (and guys!). Bouda - Yes, you may, and thanks for asking! RevJim - Your first post made me ROTFL last night when I read it! Squeak - Thanks. My although my 'Sweet Euphoria' rig has been traded in for a new G4 which now says "Ranchgirl" on the mudflap, which I think is cool too. Ccowden - Yeah! Send me some free swag! BigGun - I liked your quotes for Mirage, they were funny, someone should forward to Justin at Mirage for fun...he knows me, he'll think it's cute. MikeForsyth - Yeah, even I didn't pay attention to the altimeter in the shot or I would have called the post...boobies at 14.5K...oh well. -Crystal
-
Wow! You're right! It was pretty high! And it was just a few seconds out the door! (He must have given us extra altitude for the low cut tee!) -Crystal

My friend "Grouper" aka Rob Troup from The Bronx, took this photo of me at The Ranch in Gardiner, NY. I'm looking at it now and actually think it's a pretty good shot...well, it's fun at least...and I'm sure the guys will like it! (Girls, don't ask me why I decided that I thought it was a fun idea to post this?!) I must be bored. Anyway, I was just trying to 'adjust' before smiling into the camera to make sure things weren't busting out, you know?! I got a funny smiley pic after this one...but he definitely caught me adjusting here! -Crystal

Thanks Wendy, your information is GREAT!!! I knew my dz.commer friends would pull through for me! I've also already emailed a few of the team members of Fly Factory...(a Brazillian freefly team) that I found by just searching on the web, and one of them already responded! I'm probably going to meet them at the Rio de Janeiro airport on the day I get there and he said I can drive up with them in their van! He also said that there will be a lot of people at the boogie who live in Rio, so I will probably be able to find someone going back to Rio after the weekend to stay with...and if not to stay with, at least to hang out with! I'm getting excited!!!! -Crystal

Hi Rosa! Miss you! Hey Conundrum, you look cool! We like it! PS-Rosa, I like your Signature quote -Crystal

Hey everyone, I'm going to that be jumping at the www.brazilboogie.com Boogie!!! But I'm not going with the whole package/group thing because I have my own flight...and I want to visit and sightsee in Rio. Anyone have any advice (besides the "stay safe" stuff) or know any good places to go there. Or anyone know any forums in Brazil for skydivers where I can maybe meet/talk to skydivers near Rio. My trip to France and Spain last year was SO awesome because I contacted people there beforehand and ended up meeting up with 15 skydivers one night in Paris for drinks bc we all organized it on a site similar to dropzone.com (called www.wuza.net). Anyway, let me know if you know any skydivers there, and give em my email address or give me theirs and I'll contact them...THANKS!!!! I fly into Rio on March 23rd. My email is crystalsanchez at aol dot com. -Crystal

Once people start finding out about this place it will definitely compete for being as popular as Empuria Brava! I had soo much fun there! Can't wait to go back! Longest swoop pond in Europe 430+ feet! Retaurant, pool, bunkhouse, cheap jump tickets, on site restarant. Most people speak English well there! I don't doubt that they will start hosting major competitions there soon! When I was there in May 2004, the were building an on site restaurant and another bunkhouse and outdoor bar. Get on their website for thier own dropzone forum like dz.com!

I just found that the New York Times has better, more in depth articles. You have to log in though (free) and do a search for "Space Probe" (Sorry if this should be in incidents, if so, please move...thanks). In one article it mentioned that the malfuntion might have been just that the AAD like aparatus just didn't activate: "The space agency and an investigating board will now try to figure out exactly what went wrong. None of the pyrotechnic charges that were supposed to deploy the parachutes fired, possibly because of a battery or electronics failure or some other underlying problem. It will be important to determine whether this accident was caused by something that happened in the harsh environment of space or instead reflects a design flaw or other human error that will need to be fixed before future missions." http://www.nytimes.com (Below are the articles I found) Space Probe Fails to Deploy Its Parachute and Crashes By KENNETH CHANG (NYT) News OPINION | September 9, 2004 Crash of a Robotic Space Probe (NYT) Editorial SCIENCE | September 8, 2004 Hollywood to Help NASA Catch Space Probe By KENNETH CHANG (NYT) News SCIENCE | September 7, 2004 Helicopter Pilots Will Try to Snag Space Probe -Crystal

Does anyone know anymore information abou this incident/news story. Apparently this space probe was supposed to have a parachute deploy before it landed and helecopters were supposed to catch it on hanging hooks and bring it down. Apparently, according to the new stories the "parachute didn't open" but I'm just wondering what maybe REALLY happened, a little more detail about the malfunction? And what manufacturer made the canopy and what kind of "device" they were using to deploy it. If you know if any better articles, can you post them? http://www.nypost.com/seven/09092004/news/worldnews/19305.htm "The 450-pound capsule's parachute failed to open and the pilots, without anything to hook, watched helplessly as it spun over and over, plowing into the desert." -Crystal

Hey JT, I was thinking about going to Brazil to jump at some point. But I was thinking of going in March because there is usually a boogie in Rio around then. Where can i get more info on the boogie you are talking about? How far from Rio is it? -Crystal

You know what would be cool? A "Drunk Posting" forum. For all people who are drunk at the time, to be able to post up things on a thread. Actually, what might be better than the drunk dialing list, would be a drunk IM (Instant Messanger) list. Because it's fun to IM people when you are drunk. I'd put my name and IM address on that list. Because if I'm not by my computer, I won't be bothered and can always ignore an IM (unlike a phone call which can wake you up). I'm all for a DRUNK IM LIST!!! -Crystal
-
Ok, I've read the "admittance" rules and the first post in this forum...but I still have NO idea what the heck you guys are talking about. What is this? A list of people that say "You can dial me when you are drunk?" Huh? Sounds strange! How can that be cool...I must be missing something. But what if someone calls you at 3am on a night when you are sleeping? Do I just not get what this is? Can someone explain further. I've definitely called some people when I was quite a bit drunk...one time though, that person wasn't so happy I called bc he had to be up at 5am, and I called him at 2! -Crystal

What are the World Air Games? When/Where are they? Where can I find info? -Crystal
