  1. A friendly reminder . . . please think before you post. Not sure where it goes? PM a Moderator and we'll be happy to point you in the right direction. Examples from the most recent moves: -"Skydiving Tattoos:" Bonfire (thread subject is tatoos, not skydiving) -"Safety Day:" Safety & Training (no brainer) -"Ride to and from Perris & Elsinore:" Event & Places to Jump (location thread) -"AFF Courses in Brazil:" Events & Places to Jump (location thread) Thanks, Arrive Safely John
  2. [cue jim croce music] "You don't tug on Superman's cape . . ." [/end jim croce music] Arrive Safely John
  3. Actually, there may be a way to point out to all users those particular issues that have been discussed ad infinitum. The dropzone.com Skunk Works is hard at it. What we don't want to do is to discourage people from adding to existing conversations with new information. We just want to keep from having fourteen threads about one indepth topic or an endless circle conversation that chases its own tail, so to speak. That's why we encourage people to use the search function - so they can read good info already posted from highly qualified people in the know, and add their new question or information to keep adding value to the thread for others. 4. I am originally from Vermont (Cabot); now transplanted in North Carolina. There are two drop zones that most people in your area use: Vermont Skydiving Adventures in West Addison (a short drive from Burlington), which I am told has two Cessnas: a 182 and a 205. Malone Parachute Club in Plattsburgh, NY, which the website says has a Cessna 206. If you want to head North for Canadian , PM Remi and ask him about the DZs near Montreal (only a couple of hours from Burlington). Unfortunately I have not jumped at any of those places - my only jumps in Vermont were demos at Burlington "International" Airport (only called that because they have flights to Canada ). 5. That is Scott Lutz. His video performance is one of the most infamous dead horses in these forums. You have not been registered that long, so you have likely not seen it posted. No harm no foul. The search function can help a lot - finding out whether something has been posted before. From the Forum Rules: I'm gonna let this horse rest in peace . . . Arrive Safely John
  6. Let's keep this thread going. We are trying to keep the Skyride conversation in one place. Thanks! Arrive Safely John
  7. It would be great to have other countries' regulatory agencies' guidance posted here for comparison and for everyone's education. Arrive Safely John
  8. The document is attached. The download link is also posted below: http://www.sunpath.com/downloads/bulletins/RSL_answers_2-27-07.pdf Arrive Safely John
  9. So as a solution you decide to post a gripe thread in a topical forum (a different one at that)? The thread your reply was removed from was in S&T, and there are only two Mods there. I am one of them, and not the one that recycled your reply. I suggest you contact the other directly (via email since you have PMs turned off). I am, however the one asking you to read the following reminder from the Forum Rules about gripe threads, and locking this one . . . Arrive Safely John
  10. We have been doing that for years with a poncho liner inside the ol' fart sack. Arrive Safely John
  11. Added Sandy Kimball and Karl Meyer from Aerodyne. Arrive Safely John
  12. You're kidding, right? Did you read the rest of the thread? Arrive Safely John
  13. There is no longer a commercial skydiving operation at Coolidge. The CPS facility is not open to the general public. They host and conduct contract training for military customers. http://www.uspa.org/dz/states/AZ.htm Arrive Safely John
  14. This article explains it pretty well. There are vertical currents in storm clouds . . . you can watch them build, then anvil at their peak of nastiness right before they dump their load. Notice in the article the best advice comes at the end of the first paragraph: Another case of "prevention is the best medecine." Arrive Safely John
  15. Yup - it's dark! It's important to stay oriented for the entire climb so you know when you turn on jump run. Locating the target from the air during the climb gives you the sight picture to look for on jump run. Arrive Safely John
  16. Here are two old ones you can try - I bet they still work: rosi@relativeworkshop.com (Rosi Sigmon) mark@relativeworkshop.com (Mark Procos) Arrive Safely John
  17. Same for me . . . on the rare occasions I use a packer. Arrive Safely John
  18. For JM release we are required to be able to visibly acquire the release point (spot). For CARP/HARP release we exit on the green light; the release point is determined by the navigator and the pilots fly to it on a pre-determined track using their nav equipment. When I am JM for 25K CARP/HARP releases, I will always try to confirm visually where we are (I stay oriented on the way up by looking through the windows). Night jumps we spot just like day jumps. Usually there are enough reference points to be able to stay oriented, and with the exception of special training, the impact point (target) is marked with lights. Arrive Safely John
  19. Where do you guys train now, Matt? Arrive Safely John
  20. BIGUN & vpozzoli: please take your personal differences to PMs so we can keep the conversation on track with the original subject. Thanks. Arrive Safely John
  21. LOL! Well, this Army guy learned early (and has taught many times over since then), the same discipline that has already been mentioned earlier in the thread: -If you're under the formation, get out from under it. -Hang out in the vicinity of your slot and try to recover, keeping an eye on the formation. -Break off at your assigned altitude and in your assigned direction. -Everyone will know where you are in the sky during breakoff and you will not stray into the breakoff airspace of another group from the same pass. 22. I have forgotten them once or twice, but I have given mine away countless times to jumpmasters, students, camera flyers. I can do without them if I have to, and often go without them intentionally on HAHOs when it's not terribly cold at exit altitude. Arrive Safely John
  23. It actually encourages further discussion by giving them already established threads full of great information to reply to instead of dividing conversations on that particular topic among several different threads. The post shouldnt be locked. If people do not want to talk about it, it will drop down the ranking very rapidly. Once on the 3rd, 4th, 6th page etc I'm sure the mods can do housework now and again and delete repetative posts. We tend to do more preventative maintenance than clean up. The house tends to keep itself clean that way, because people adopt the "clean as you go" philosophy. All of this on behalf of the author of the post . . . I'm curious - how does he feel about it? As promised, I PMd the author of the thread to ensure there was no misunderstanding - after taking the time to reply to both of yours. Arrive Safely John
