It's been a long time, but I thought I read in Poynter's Parachuting book that statistically it is more dangerous to drive on the freeway and to participate in water sports (i.e. water skiing, scuba, etc). Can anyone back these up, especially w/ sound analyses of the actual injury/death numbers? A reference to an actual article would be great. sinker -the artist formerly known as sinker

Anyone out there have advice about which harness/container is best for big boys? Is there any difference other than personal preference? I'm 6'1" and weigh 230. With all gear on, I'm looking at an exit weight of 260. Are all harness/containers created equal regarding this exit weight? Now you know why they call me sinker -the artist formerly known as sinker

Me, two tandems and then AFF in 8 jumps. Had to repeat level 4 b/c I was jumping w/ a JM who weighed 130 soaking wet and I am 200. Fall rate disparity anyone? We couldn't equalize and I froze. but it is not the whole truth. Just gotta jump on this Archway praise session. My wife and kids and I are moving up there in the next couple of months and the reputation of Archway was a BIG factor in chosing where to relocate to. I've been out of the sport for 6 years and can't wait to get back into it. The old DZ I jumped at had an owner who was such an ass. He didn't take care of his gear, his jump ship crashed two months after I left his DZ (NTSB said it was HIS fault too, negligent upkeep), and he was rude to newbies like myself. So, finding a new home DZ where there are good vibes and great people was a big big plus. So wifey and I visited Archway this weekend. Such a great place. Anita and Jason were so welcoming and hospitable! And they had a large turnout on Saturday for such a windy and chilly day in January. Their student gear is practically brand new and the whole place looks fantastic. Such a friendly place! I can't WAIT until we are moved and up there jumping! What a great visit we had, thanks Anita and Jason (and Terri and...) And by the time we're up there, they'll have the Caravan to jump from... first turbine jump for me BEER! --Michael -the artist formerly known as sinker

All this shit makes me so sick. Yes the gun store man broke some laws in selling the gun... the money hungry ATF will take of him. But jeez people, when are people going to learn that human beings are free agents, autonomous beings who CHOOSE their actions. Now, some could legitimately argue that Malvo, being young and perhaps impressionable may not have completely chosen his behavior, but the real issue is that THESE PEOPLE DID THIS! Bushmaster didn't, the gun dealer didn't. They chose it, they were caught, and they are, without a doubt, going to fry for it. Anyone out there know Denny Collins or Gino Leon? They were AFF instructors/tandem masters at Tennesse Skydiving Center several years ago. I stopped jumping there in '96 and they left after that.
