STRONG vs SIGMA vs VECTOR vs ECLIPSE TANDEM RIGS
NSEMN8R replied to foreverfree's topic in Instructors
What's that mean? I like Strong. Of course, I don't have much of a frame of reference since that's all I've ever jumped. You're right about it feeling like a bale of hay though. I guess I just assumed all tandem rigs felt like that. -
I've told him why I think it's happening. I try not to make too big a deal about it because he's such a nice guy and you can tell he feels bad when he sucks. Plus I don't feel like it's really my place. The DZO/S&TA and some of the more experienced guys have had some talks with him though. I didn't really mean to dog on him that much. I just wanted to show that some people just won't get it no matter how many jumps they have. He's as strong as a horse too, but it hasn't helped. I don't think jump numbers should carry so much weight. And one of the best, most experienced TIs I know is 5'9" and 145lbs. I think it should be really simple. If you can prove to an examiner you can do them right then you should be able to do them. If not then you shouldn't. Regardless of jump numbers or physical strength.

I had exactly 500 when I got the rating. I've done just over 300 tandems now and everything has gone pretty smooth so far. On the other hand, there's a guy that had about 700 when we took the cert course together. He's a good belly flier and does a great job on video, but he absolutely sucks at doing tandems. He's probably done as many as I have now and he still sucks. It's like "READY, SET, DROGUE!!!". (I've seen some scary shit that I won't get into) Then he spins like crazy all the way down to pull time. I hate doing video of him because the students look at me all disappointed and say "Howcome you didn't get my face on there?" I don't think you can put the same number on it for everyone. I think you should just have to do it with the examiner until you show that you can do it right. That's my newby opinion anyways.

Hi. I'm new in here so I hope I'm not too out of line in saying this, but this subject just came up in the office this morning and someone pointed out that there is a physiological reason that women don't fart as much as men. It's because they don't shut up long enough to build up pressure.

I went to that last year. Had an awesome time! Beautiful place and very friendly locals. Got to check out the rain forest and the Tanama River. It was absolutely incredible! I'd definitely do it again, but I got these free airline tickets that are only good in the US. I guess I shouldn't bitch too much though. At least they're free..

Thanks bodypilot1, but I don't think I can wait until Spring. I'm already getting edgy from the lack of sunshine and altitude around here. By March my wife will be ready to kill me if I dont' get out of here and go make some jumps somewhere. The111--- Marco Island sounds cool. What's the closest airport to fly into? How much are jumps going to be? I checked their website, but it doesn't say... Thanks

This past summer I bought a Classic 2. I usually get stuck doing tandems all day so I only got to jump it about a dozen times all year and I'm the only one at our DZ that has one so they were all solos I won some free airline tickets to anywhere in the US in a contest at work. I'd like to go someplace warm in Feb. when the weather here in MI is at it's crappiest. Can anybody recommend a good place for a rookie bird to go and find some other people to jump with? I'd also like to get some coaching if it's available. Thanks for any suggestios. Tony

If swinging means having sex with a whole bunch of random people I think it's probably a bad idea just because of the health risks. But if we had a few other couples that we could do it with just as friends it might be cool.

So how was it done? Is it a trick or does that guy have to carry his balls aound in a wheel barrow?

My buddy jumped a skydiving rig at Bridgeday. He landed in the river. He was only in there for a minute and we took the cypres out right away when he got out. It powers up and counts down normally. Think it's ok? Anybody know how much it costs to send it to SSK just to have them look at it? It was a borrowed rig from a very new jumper. I'd rather not give it back if there's a chance it won't fire if it needs to... Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Is that hard on the drogue?

I get $30 for a Tandem. Plus they buy lunch. You're right. After less than 400 tandems, it's starting to suck for me. All I do is tandems anymore. I don't even feel like an instructor anymore. Or even a skydiver. I feel more like a mule. Or one of those guys in China that pulls those rickshaws around. Don't get me wrong. I don't act like I feel like that in front of the students. I'm all smiles and I treat every one of them like it's their birthday. Sometimes it's still fun and the money's nice, but I'd rather just go skydiving like I used to.

What level do you guys think it should be for AFF students? Maybe after the harness hold exits or not at all?
-
Cool. Thanks. It's the same for AFF students right?

As a TI, I should probably know this but does anyone know where in the ISP a S/L student must be before I can jump with them (without being strapped to me)? Somebody said it was after the "method specific" jumps. Does that means when they get off the S/L and go to 5sec. delay? I let someone borrow my SIM & IRM and never got it back or I'd look it up. Thanks.

I like that. It gets the message across, but I don't think it sounds "low class" at all. Do the instructors split the tips with the vidiots, packers, pilots...? Or do they get their own tips?
-
Just wondering how many of you guys get tips regularly. How much is it usually? Out of about 300 or so tandems I can probably count on 1 hand how many times I've gotten a tip. One lady gave me $50 and a few others have given me 5's & 10's. I took my kids horse back riding the other day and everyone in the group paid the guide some gratuity. Why not TI's?

Anyone Know what really happened? As a newer TM I'm curious how he ended up with 2 out to begin with.

Bowie that's a kick ass video. Really brightened up my day. Thanks.

Hey- Thanks for all the info guys. I jumped it with the wingsuit today and it opened and flew great. Definitely the right choice for the wingsuit. Thanks again, Tony

I traded this guy a Stiletto for a Tri 135 to use with my wingsuit. When I got it I noticed that there was something weird with the brake lines. It's like they cut the outermost ones off the tail and attached them on the inside (toward the center). The corner where the stabilizer meets the tail is just flopping back there now. The guy said it was a mod he had done to soften the openings. I thought triathalons had good openings anyway? Has anybody ever heard of this? Thanks for any help...

Who would have won.. Jackie Chan or Bruce lee?

Cool. I just jumped mine for the first time this weekend. You guys were right. Best $ I ever spent.
-
Dude, Very cool video. How do you have the camera hooked to your foot? Can I see a picyure of what it looks like?
-
Thanks. I figured it was a pretty good deal. It fits like it was made for me and it's in really good shape. Joining Flocks will be tough though. This will be the only one at our DZ. Hopefully some of my friends will try it and decide to buy their own. Most of the people seem to think it's a bad idea though. I brought it to safety day and they said it looks like a body bag... They kind of sound like my whuffo friends did when I started jumping... "Dude, you're gonna die....". Did you guys get alot of that when you first started flying them?
