Why do cops confiscate BASE rigs
freakydiver replied to freefalle's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Law and power of the law are two totally completely different beasts IMHO - a good lawyer can beat a bad lawyer in just about any case. As for only jumping legally, that would seriously cut into my desired jump list. Drugs and DUIs are one thing, but I'd have no problems getting arrested for doing some of my desired jumps in illegal places. Why do cops confiscate BASE rigs
freakydiver replied to freefalle's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Way off base dood - way off base. Not even a nice try - perhaps you just don't know any real cops. -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." -- -
I am slowly but surely saving up the cash to drop on a base rig right soon, and having read over tons and tons of things to practice under canopy, I have a question for those of you who base and skydive BOTH on a regular basis. I realize that there are many many merits to practicing on the DZ with your base canopy of choice, my question is, do any of you mix up base canopy practice with normal skydiving canopy rides? i.e. 50 percent big ol base canopy drills and 50 percent fast ass canopy drills? I am very reluctant to give up the nice carving swoops I've attained with my Sabre 135, but as state, realize there are probably mucho merits to regularly jumping my new base canopy when it arrives. Just curious what you all do out there... -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --

canopy types and suitable wingloadings
freakydiver replied to metalslug's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
My Sabre at 1.5 flys pretty similarly to a Stilletto 135 I fly at a DZ 4000 feet lower in alti. Not as quick in the turns, not as much overall lift, but I can really carve it in and feel perfectly safe under it. -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." -- -
Thanks guy and gal... Lighting on ground taken care of by DZ, just trying to prepare by purchasing some reusable equipment... Thanks for the info. -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --

What Jeremy is trying to say is that we are simply Sherpas out here in Colorado... -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." -- -
Having not done a night jump in a good year, I'm trying to remember what equipment one generally needs for a night jump. Lighted alti, flashlight to check canopy, isn't there supossed to be a light visible for 3 miles that is on during freefall and canopy ride? Can you use glowsticks for that application? whats the difference between a flat track and max track?
freakydiver replied to Newbie's topic in Safety and Training
Seems to me a good flat track is a "max" track... Just track well! Cheers -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." -- -

http://www.kngphoto.com/eos10d.html Is that lensless? Can I just use my still 35 lenses on it?? -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." -- -
I've always found rolling instead of S folding allows for a much more manageable bag stuff. PM me if you want more specifics. I just suggested this to someone three weeks ago and they were like no way so I'm not going into detail unless you want to hear about it. Also - I've NEVER had a mal, so its a pretty darn safe technique IMHO. Blue ones... -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --

Funny - a buddy of mine and I were sittin around at his house a couple of nights back trying to out do each other with life sucks at the current moment stories. He brought up one that I can gurantee will out do anyone of the storeis any of us can come up with. A friend of his was taking his wife to the hospital, she had been breaking down emotionally over the past year or two. Apparently she was in really bad psychological shape and on the way to the hospital, she opened the door and jumped out killing herself. She left him with their two kids. So - who's life sucks?? NOT OURS! Cheer up... -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --

Funny - everyone of my jumper friends is wondering why I'm marrying a non-jumper. Well - thats easy. One, she doesn't jump, saves me money! Two, she's cooler than all get out. Only four weeks to the plunge (literally, I'm jumping into my wedding)... -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --

The 10D has everything I could possibly use to get by as a professional guide/photog. Its a freakin sweet camera that most users won't even come close to using in the full regard... -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --

I was at 1.4 at a hundred jumps and have landed my shit in all sorts of conditions. Bottomline? I had people in my close group of skydiving buddies that actually liked to dump high and screw around under canopy and I really got to know my canopy fast. I never hurt myself once (came damn close after freaking out after getting cut off, but dealt with it rather well imho). I think the problem is people see hot shots swooping and just flat out do not realize that most of these people have 1000's of jumps to their credit. Most of them have injured themselves at least once. Its funny how everything in the sport has progressed to keep pace with headdowners, safer rigs, louder audibles, lots and lots of coaching programs out there - where is the canopy equivelent. In my few years in the sport I'd personally say that canopies have progressed as fast as the flying skills of our overall community, but alas, most anyone can hop on one of these new hot shot canopies really rather easily and pound it in. All in the name of looking cool. I say f@#$ cool - go learn about canopies first then look cool later. -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
