No, but if you see any photos on the website you'd like to order, I'd be the one to contact about that. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

Hey, where can my husband complete AFF 1-8 on a weekend??
lewmonst replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
On a 2-day weekend, I doubt anywhere. Keep in mind the First Jump Course takes most of a day and most students only get level 1 in after the FJC that day. Some can get in level 2 as well, but even still, to complete the other 6 levels in one day is a lot. One thing that Perris does very well is staff accordingly to what is scheduled, and they don't overschedule. It's very rare that an AFF student has to wait. That being said, you should call ahead and schedule, and let them know what your/his plans and goals are. They will do their best to accomodate you. And the very off-chance that it's bad weather, the tunnel is walking distance. And the AFF instructors can coach in the tunnel. And I'd highly recommend tunnel time for anyone sometime before level 4 anyway. It will help with body position and being comfortable in freefall, which can be hurdles to passing level 4. Perris's number is (951) 657-1664. If you allow 3 days, you have a much more realistic chance of completing AFF. What time of year are you thinking about? Days are short right now, and more chance of bad weather anywhere you go. Perris, Elsinore and Eloy usually have the best weather, but nothing is guaranteed. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com -

Yeah, they're really accross the big pond somewhere. I ordered one of those just to check it out 2 or 3 weeks ago and have yet to receive it. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

oh yeah, we meant N3, thanks. lew http://www.exitshot.com

No. ha ha getacanon. But... that 3 prong connector looks like the same wiring as the E3 canon connectors. Meaning, you can splice into it, combine the shutter and the focus wire and connect it to the shutter wire of a conceptus. Then connect common to common. That will rig up a switch for you, but it doesn't help the fact that it looks like that switch can easily blow off... Nothing a whole bunch of gaffer's tape can't fix I bet though. Try it. I think I have actually seen someone jumping a Pentax. I didn't notice their switch though. Where there's a will there's a way. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

The closer the sight tool, be it a sticker or lollipop, is to your eye, the more margin of error there is in it. Also, if the helmet shifts slightly on your head, the sticker or goggle mark does not, adding to this error. Whereas a sight mounted to the helmet will move with the helmet. And this is where the Finley sights have an advantage over the lollipops also... I can feel and fly the air and burbles on my helmet. I let my body move and react as necessary, but keep my head and my mounted sight as dead center as much as possible. So that's why I think a good sight reduces head movement. There is more error from Paralax so you need to be aware of that as well. Do a search, lots more info on it and a good quade post here. In my opinion, beginning camera flyers should make dozens of jumps without any sight at all. Once they are more comfortable, try a no-profile sight like the sticker or sharpee box drawn on goggles, then maybe after 100+ camera jumps, a mounted sight as needed. I don't think you need a mounted sight to film fun jumps. And I think if you do use a mounted sight, you should not be flying inside the formation. Just my opinion. As always, only add one little thing at a time. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

I know you guys are all fans of canon, but not everyone is... why not ask conceptus to make an adapter or line of switches with your connector availible?? matt Most of us have made that adapter you're talking about ourselves. The problem is the N3 plug is not standard, and canon won't sell them in bulk, and they can't just be purchased at radio shack for a couple bucks. It's expensive and a pain. The adapter itself is as costly as the conceptus. btw, if anyone doesn't want to make that adapter themselves, come talk to me in perris. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

It's all part of our love-hate relationship with Canon. Oh, technically, any of the type 3 connector switches allows you to use the half-step focus function like the real shutter release. Like, for when you're shooting on a tripod and want to reduce any potential camera shake - so applicable to skydiving! Btw, we've rigged up a very nice 2.5mm stereo jack to E3 plug adapter that works very well with conceptus, and the female jack can be easily mounted on the side of a helmet. So for me, it's super quick and easy to switch from my 20d to 35mm film for tandems. And we have a couple spare adapters, maybe I'll post photos of the switch stuff when it's raining tomorrow. Remind me to show it to you in Perris next time I see you. Also, even though the conceptus combines the half shutter and full shutter release wires, if i want autofocus, the 20d knows to focus first then release the shutter. And it can do so quite quickly with a Sigma 15mm. I'm very pleased with the freefall shots. Oh, yeah... I have another little creation to show and tell next time i see you... hee hee hee. -well, if I decide to share my secret- peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

Wow, I just put two and two together... We met yesterday at Perris and I didn't know you were freeflygoddess on here... Anyway, I told you yesterday, but just for interest sake will share with everyone else. I also had craniosynostosis. Mine was of the metopic suture. Surgery for it back in the 70's consisted of cutting me open from ear to ear, (I was just an infant), pulling my forehead skin down and removing bone from my forehead. They wrapped me up like a mummy, no cool helmet. My surgery was fine, as I'm fine today, not the best aesthetically as I still have bumps on my forehead. I look like that star trek character. Depending on the light, shadows make it look like dirt or bruises still. It's just cosmetic, but I do wish I could fix it. Most of the time people don't notice, or maybe they do and ignore it, I don't know. I just like to say my brain is so big they had to make more room... Seriously though, it's not that uncommon. Lots of google info on it. nice meeting you. See you in Perris when you're ready to jump again. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

If you want to go real cheap, those sticker hole protectors for paper work decent on a pair of goggles. The orange lollipop sight works fine. Brent Finley's is real nice. Nothing's perfect though, and sights can easily get knocked out of place, so whatever you rig up, you should check it daily (or before every important jump) to make sure it's still sighted in with your camera properly. After a while, you'll see right through it anyway. I forget mine's there. You can also rig up a cheap little laser to sight it yourself... peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

Not sure if I misunderstand what you said or you misunderstood what I said. I'm a TI, not an E or CD. The couple rare times I said no to someone was after they'd successfully passed the course, and were completing their required jumps with experienced skydivers. Even though they passed the course, I didn't want to jump with them. Just my choice. I don't really understand what you mean about RW TE's, the ones I know ride on front routinely. But I do agree, the TE (or CD) should be the first to ride on front and should not let the TI take anyone until they trust them. Isn't that the point of the course? peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
-
Agreed, and I have for a handful of TI's. I don't like being on the front but I'll do it. It does make me appreciate the Sigma harness though, as the ones I did on the Sigma harness I felt fine, but the ones I did on Stong made me feel nauseous. But I have said no to some because I did not feel safe with the TI in training. And I think the TICD's are the real gutsy ones. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

No jumps yet (this weekend) but still having fun!
lewmonst replied to diablopilot's topic in The Bonfire
do you look as cool as these two? peace lew http://www.exitshot.com -
ok. As it's already been said, slow down. That being said, when you are ready to start with a camera, only start with one, for a good while, at least 100 jumps. And if you are all that much more interested in stills, why not leave off the video and just start with stills. One camera is less distracting than two, and if you are in that much of a rush to get to stills, i don't see any reason to start with video and still feel rushed to add stills. Again, I'd suggest not doing any camera until you get a couple hundred more jumps. By then, the digital rebel will be dirt cheap anyway. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

Why 3-chip? It's overkill for 4-way video. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
