This is definately one of the best places to be in November. Hopefully Donk won't get naked and craw in the refridgerator again this year. I've gotta go back and climb/jump the jug-or-not again. Way cool leap. Hasta! (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

I've been married for 5.5 years and times were rough early on. But if you bring your girlfriend/wife along with you on all your trips, it definately helps. Get them involved, let them meet other girlfriends and wives and make them a part of your jumps. Whether it be working groundcrew, shooting stills, or just hanging out in the LZ watching everyone land. When you go on vacation, make sure you give her a day or two to do the things she enjoys. Juggling BASE and marriage can be tough, but give it some time and find an even balance between the two. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

Perhaps I was a bit harsh in using the word "bozos". However, since Italian isn't my first language, I only use that language when I'm confident that I can communicate properly. BASE 813, my comments were not directly entirely toward you, but toward the entire thread. I always choose to defend BASE jumping, not necessarily Bridge Day. It just so happens that Bridge Day is an integral part of the evolution of BASE. Bridge Day has its good and bad points just like anything else. We have 90 first time jumpers this year. I can't wait to see the look in their eye as they step onto the launch ramp and then the smile on their faces as they walk away from the LZ. Now THAT is what Bridge Day is all about!!! There is no other place on earth where you'll find hundreds of experienced BASE jumpers teaching the first timers, simply because they want to help. I'll cya at Bridge Day..... A few comments from the Bridge Day 2003 BASE Coodinator: -I can't understand half of what you bozos are typing. Break out your dictionary please. -Those who are moaning about Bridge Day clearly haven't been there. As you can tell from some of the replies, Bridge Day is about jumping and meeting old friends. It's not ALL about the jumps. Although, how often do you get the opportunity to legally jump an 876' tall bridge? Yes, 2 seconds of that other legal bridge in Idaho is just great, but the NRGB affords 4-5 second delays. -Our FREE first jump courses are not as thorough as what you would get if you paid for one, but you are getting trained by the same people (Basic Research and Morpheus Tech) throughout the day on Friday. It is designed to give you the basics of BASE, assuming you have the right gear and hundreds of skydives under your belt. -If you think Bridge Day is NOT for first timers, you obviously don't know jack about our sport at all. So many jumpers, many of them quite famous, have made their first BASE jump at Bridge Day. For a LONG time, Bridge Day WAS legal BASE jumping. We didn't have Moab, or the 486'er....nothing. You probably wouldn't be reading this post right now if it weren't for Bridge Day. Chew on that..... -We sold all 400 jump slots in 20 days time. Obviously, Bridge Day will be around for quite sometime. -Where else can you get a free Birdman BASE seminar hosted by Robert Pecnik and Yuri? -Where else do you get bus rides from the bottom of the bridge all the way to the exit point on top? -And where else do they set up a 16' commercial aluminum diving board for the experts? -I'm not trying to defend Bridge Day, but let you know you should be thankful for Bridge Day....otherwise, you might still be doing hop and pops out of a 182. Those who haven't been there....you just don't understand. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

It seems like we have this "how would I log this..." type thread about twice a year.... If you have to ask what classification it is, then it isn't B, A, S, or E. It's usually an "O" for OTHER. However, in my opinion, a tethered ballon is a skydive. The ballon is only temporarily fixed to the ground and it is always moving a little bit relative to the ground. If it's always moving, it isn't truly fixed. The really funny thing is that the old timers always told me a true BASE jump is one where you leave the bridge with a PACKED canopy. This little rule was in place to prevent some yahoo from logging paragliding type cliff exits. That kinda shoots down all those McConkey jumps as being BASE jumps. But I guess times change. What will our amazing little sport surprise us with next? (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

I've bought at least 3 Wizards over the years and have had no problems. They are my favorite Velcro BASE rig. While the Type 17 chest strap may appear a bit small, the load ratings are adequate. However, I usually ask Vertigo to use Type 8 instead because it doesn't cost much more, plus it is stronger. In my opinion, bigger (and stronger) is better in BASE jumping. Cya. PS. That 240 will probably set you down a little hard....go for the river (near the shore). (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

What is going on in LB? Is BASE the latest fad over there where every parachutist with a few skydives is trying their hand at BASE? Sounds like way too many incidents this year. I'm sure the SBA is working on it. Let us know if we can help in any way... Stay safe. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

Time for me to go back to Blinc....I think there are way too many "skydivers" in this forum!! Sure, there are cops in the streets...that's where they normally are on any day. But, when nightfall sets in, there are no alarms, video cameras, and probably not a whole lot of rent-a-cops watching the door to the roof. If you get busted, you can always tell them you were stuck on the roof and had to jump. Do you really think they are gonna go after a jumper? Do you feel guilty if you pull below 2000'? Don't quote me on this, but aren't the mini's a 10:1 ratio while the large rings are 100:1? It all has to do with the moment arm that is created through the ring system, with larger rings resulting on less force on the white loop. This info came from a good BASE rigger friend of mine, who specifically discussed this issue with Mr. Booth. I could be wrong on my numbers, but as a mechanical engineer by day, I'm sticking with large rings..... (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
-
Shouldn't that be "mini-rings" rather than mini-risers? I don't know of any BASE manufacturers who make mini-risers. And large rings have a better load ratio than mini-rings from what I've read and heard. Fortunately, we don't have that "smaller is better" mentality in BASE. Cya. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. Cool. I guess you know the area. I've got a nice local 300' freestander, outside climb, with 6" long bolts that stick out of the corner angle iron for steps. When someone jumps, the top sways 6". Yippee! (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

Running from rangers is fun until: A. You get caught, or B. You get enough jumps to realize that it ain't fun anymore. I think most agree that legal jumps are safer and more fun. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

Duh! That's what I originally wrote in my post. This is from the WV Quarter website: 12. The U.S. Mint will return the approved designs to the Governor for final selection of the West Virginia State Quarter. So do you think the Gov is gonna just pick his favorite one? Probably not. He just might use polls such as this for his final selection..... (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

Lummy, you've got too much free time!

I heard the same. I'm going to ask around and see what's up. The next Bday meeting is Aug. 20th, so I'll fire off a few questions to the NPS. LP is ideal for the expansion of BASE beyond Bday. There are a lot of people trying to make this happen, by the way..... (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

It's almost tied now.....ah, the power of the internet. Thanks guys and gals. Please email everyone you can to keep this up. Just think, you can walk around everyday with a parachute in your pocket if the Bridge Day design wins!! Thanks!! (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

Thanks, I also posted a link in Talkback. We're almost there people.......we're closing in on first. Tell your fellow jumpers, friends, co-workers, neighbors, pimps, mailman, whomever.....!!!!!!! I want to carry a parachute in my pocket everyday in the form of a quarter!!! This would mean so much for our sport... (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

crossposted from the BASE forum....please vote here to get a parachutist on the WV state quarter design that will be out in 2005! The Bridge Day jumper depicted on the proposed WV quarter design to be released in 2005 is now in 2nd place with 38% of the vote. A similar design showing the NRGB is in first place with 40% of the vote. The Governor of WV eventually selects the winning design and he may use polls such as this to determine the winner. VOTE NOW!!!!! http://www.dailymail.com/pollBooth.php3?qid=wvquarterpoll&cnSess=91a9c25d2dc Thanks. And pass this link on... (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

It also made Headline News and prompted some news reporters from Wisconsin to call me for a BASE jumper's perspective. I gave him the standard "if we were allowed to do this in National Parks and such, then we wouldn't have to do it at night where it's more risky....". And to the misinformed Sheriff of King County who said it was a "bonehead stunt", did anyone not tell him that it's his JOB to rescue people, a job paid for by taxpayers. If the rescuers are concerned about risking their lives, they should find new jobs. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

Don't forget the "I jumped at Bridge Day" option. There will be 86 first timers this year. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
