The name of the magazine is "Parachutist". BASE jumpers are parachutists as well. Airplanes crash, but I haven't heard of one antenna or cliff falling down and killing a jumper. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

It's already got an elevator!!! With a smokestack, you could build several elevators on opposite sides. You could probably build a small house inside the base of the smokestack - it's THAT big. It's been many years since I've jumped this object. Many of us got sick last time due to inhalation of unknown fumes/smoke. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

Here's the smokestack, with the inside ladder at the bottom. Wintertime climbs are a comfy 70 degrees F. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

Find an old smokestack....it's better than a rusty old tower and it won't snag your canopy. Plus, no guywires to deal with. We've got a nice 1240' smokestack here on the East Coast.....I'm sure they could build them even higher and they are nice and warm inside, even in winter. Regarding someone suing you, just have them sign a waiver. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

Dismantling, moving, and reassembling a tower is going to be very expensive (more than the cost of the tower itself). There have been plenty of towers that were offered "Free" to anyone who would tear it down and haul it away, but it still proved too expensive. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. I've got a local tower just like this one (judging from their pics) and it's well suited for BASE. You can actually launch from one the four repeaters at the top, if they're not hot. Get your checkbooks out, kiddies. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

Yes, many jumpers who cannot swim take the leap at Bridge Day. We ask jumpers to tell us if they can't swim shortly before they jump. Then we discreetly tell the four water rescue boats below. Regardless, our water rescue crews are usually hauling your wet butt in the boats after only 5-7 seconds. They are the best in the business. PS. Nonswimmers can always land in the LZ. I know tailgate lineovers have been discussed, but you'll have to find the posts on your own. As for ditching both toggles, this was the recommended method of the IPBC in the late 90's/early 2000's and was supported by most everyone at the competitions (including me). Do whatever works best for YOU, but when you flare both risers too high and land on your back, feel free to send me your xrays and I'll post them on my xray website. Cya. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. My thoughts: 1) There have been SEVERAL documented cases of line-overs with tailgates. They've even been discussed here and at over at Blinc. 2) Proper method for dealing with a line-over is to ditch the offending toggle, but retain the other. Do not discard, as you'll have a REALLY unstable canopy then. Flare with one toggle and one riser. Have a nice day!

I say that we give this award (see attached) to all the skydivers who've made this thread so darn long... Congrats to all of you. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

Related Article Here ------------------------------------------- FROM THE TWIN FALLS NEWSPAPER, OCT. 2003 ------------------------------------------- "...Paul H. Roberts, a BASE jumper and military paratrooper. Roberts, who has been parachuting for 30 years and says he was one of the first to BASE jump off the Perrine Bridge in 1989, said Twin Falls and Jerome counties would be wise to sit up and take notice from officials in Fayetteville (Bridge Day). "I don't want to ban it. I want it regulated," Roberts said." ------------------------------------------- Is Twin Falls some kind of "ex-paratrooper/rigger" resort community? Geez..... Think about these two scenarios: (1) An experienced BASE jumper over-delays and hits the water just as his canopy is coming out of the container. He dies upon impact. (2) An inexperienced local tanning guy static lines an 18 year-old female from the same bridge. She is unstable on her launch, going head down and through the lines as the canopy is extracted. Since she is wearing shoes with eyelets, her foot is caught on a steering line. With the 14 mph winds that day, she is blown into the boulders on the North side of the river. She dies upon impact with the rocks. Which scenario do you think will cause the local community to cry out for regulation or an outright ban on BASE jumping? Scenario #2 is far worse than #1. I'm really shocked by what the tanning guy is doing and the uneducated responses to this thread. All the technological advancements in gear and training over the last 25 years are thrown out when you have yahoo's like the tanning guy tossing people off a bridge under inadequate military rounds. I actually own a few military rounds and you'd have to pay me a lot to jump one off a bridge. This guy is a liability, just like our wonderful surfboard and waterski jumpers. My question to several of you is this. If you don't BASE jump, or if you haven't ever been to the Perrine, how can you adequately post a response to this thread? You don't see me posting over at the CRW forum......simply because I don't know crap about CRW. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

The BLiNC Forum has moved to the new Application...

Personally, I find it easier to post over here at dropzone.com and I don't even go over to Blinc anymore. Blinc is unstable with many browsers, it changes too often, and the layout is inferior. I also think it's a bit tacky to see advertisements for Blinc over here. Things change I guess. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted. -
I know a guy who jumped with his own gun.....he accidentally left it in his stash bag and discovered it at the exit point. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

Right on, Freakdiver..... If Mother Teresa did the same stuff JT and crew have been doing, I'd still tar and feather her as well... It's not who you are, how cool you are normally, or the fact that everyone may love you, it's WHAT you did. I see that JT is leaving town before the posse arrives. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. Wow! Check it out and get back to us, Tom. When you speak with them, be sure to use phrases like "can I pull my own cord?" and "do you offer tandems?" I'm sure this one will be interesting (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

If no organization is going to police us, we must police ourselves. I don't think we're policing ourselves very well if all we do is complain here.....actions speak louder than words. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

With all the recent problems over the Red Bull guys jumping from the rail, I think this video is solid proof that some jumpers just don't give a crap about site preservation or their fellow jumpers. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

Tom, I reread your original post and you were correct. There was a Red Bull area at the exit point as well (with mostly local VIP's, only a few athletes), and yes, only Red Bull people were allowed in there. In exchange for the free Red Bull drink, free DJ and sound system, we gave them a small spot at the exit point. The jumpers have their own area as well, complete with free Red Bull to drink. There was really no reason for jumpers to even enter the Red Bull area, because the jumper area already had tons of free Red Bull to drink. The fact that Moe was not permitted in the Red Bull area was justified. Jumpers have their own space, Red Bull has a small space of their own. There was also an FBI van at the exit point. I'm sure the FBI would not have permitted Moe in the van as well. Please note that despite having worked with RB this past year, I do not agree with most of what Felix stands for and I also have issues with the recent Perrine waterski stunts that caused problems. Those issues are being mentioned by me to RB USA. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

I had a contract with Red Bull for BD2003. Nothing in the contract included Red Bull VIP's or athletes at the Saturday night party. I was just as upset with Red Bull as you all were. Red Bull also conveniently forgot to provide Red Bull and Vodka for the party (only beer), to which I quickly proclaimed a breach of contract. They say they forgot........ However, keep in mind that some of you probably drank $70 worth of Red Bull throughout the weekend and several of you took home some cool prizes (some were cash prizes). Red Bull's sponsorship allowed me to offer more to Bridge Day jumpers. Rest assured that Red Bull will not be a part of the Saturday night party this year, however, we are currently working out a sponsorship for 2004. So I guess I'm sort of caught in the middle here...... ...then again, maybe you guys might want to tar and feather "certain" jumpers when they show up this year? EDIT: Tom, regarding your Moe Viletto comment....there were no Red Bull bouncers, nor was there a specific Red Bull area at the Saturday night party. You are seriously misinformed about that. The only thing that Red Bull had at the Holiday Inn was a serving bar where some of their VIP's could get free drinks. Moe apparently tried to get free drinks from the Red Bull bar, to which he was denied. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

Tom, are you referring to Tim H. from Brooklyn? He's probably the most well known WAD jumper, especially at Bridge Day. For a little WAD history, in late 1993 I took a "BASE Course" from Mark Hewitt at Z-Hills. I already had one BASE jump and was looking to learn more. Mark showed us the WAD at that time. I'm sure it's even older than that. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

I'll trade you my sore neck for a sore back anyday....well, maybe not. I just got back from a Norway BASE trip and found myself dumping in a track using my Birdman Track pants. Depending on which canopy I jumped, my deployments were either hard or really friggin' hard. I was used to dumping in a track on BASE jumps, but with the track pants and my bum neck, things were different. I hurt my neck again on one jump, prompting me to adjust my deployment style whilst in a track. In the last second of the jump, I would come out my track and sit up a bit (almost 45 deg), then pitch. Worked great to alleviate the sore neck and even the hardest openings were manageable. The same deployment scenario applies for my birdman BASE or skydiving jumps. In the last second or so, close the leg wings a little and try to sit up a bit. Then, I pitch the PC and collapse ALL wings (until deployment) in order to reduce the burble. I guess you have to find what works best for you. Good luck. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
